All people should have the right to marry who they want. Whether they be Straight or Gay. A) If marriage is for procreation then does that mean that old people and infertile couples should not be allowed to be married? Because God knows we don't have enough children in the world. Better keep filling up those orphanages!

B) The religion thing has nothing to do with it. The USA is NOT a theocracy. God should not be brought into this. If that is your personal belief, then fine, more power to you. But don't use that as an argument in court. It will get you nowhere. ( oh and the commandment is "Love thy neighbor". Not "Love thy neighbor unless he/she is gay") Oh, and to set the records straight, the Bible was written by man, not by God.

C) Liberty and Justice for all. ALL? I guess not yet.

Hey Anna! If you did your homework on this matter instead of just spouting useless drival, you would find the scripture you are quoting was one of the Ten Commandments. You would also find that those words were written by the finger of God and given to Moses. So much for you saying the Bible was not written by God! Don't quote from the Bible if you don't know the context from whence it was taken. Marriage is a Biblical institution. Do your homework! If you don't believe in the Bible, then don't ask to be involved in something God started. Why shouldn't God be brought into something He created? Your point is null and void! Please, come up with a more convincing arguement than this!

Devoted maybe - knowledgeable not - Our Founding Fathers would disagree with you. IN GOD WE TRUST -Seperation of church and state means, that the state cannot for a national religion on the people. Hopefully Mr. Obama will do the right thing and appoint judges that will FOLLOW the Constitution.

no,people of the same sex should be illegal to marry because god made a woman and a men to be together for a reason.thats disgusting and so not right!!!!!!!

How many civil rights wars are we going to wage in this country before the opposition learns that those that are deserving of equality will have equality in the end? Let us make every ones life easier by ending the religious propaganda in politics and give equal rights of marriage to gay and lesbian couples all across our country!

YES. why is this even an issue?

Because deviant behavior is deviant behavior. Right is Right and Wrong is Wrong.

Everyone should have the right to love. It's morally and ethically wrong to take that right away from any person no matter what their orientation is.

hear hear! everyone should have the right to marry

Joe Jonas Lover i sooo totally agree!!! i have even made a petition for this issue, it says, why should you tell us who to marry?!!!

Joe Jonas Lover FINALLY, SOMEONE WHO BELIEVES WHAT I DO.... ANYONE SHOULD BE ABLE TO GET MARRIED NO MATTER WHAT....EVEN IF YOUR GAY, A LESBIAN, OR JUST DIFFERENT COLORS, IF YOU LOVE THEM, MARRY THEM!!!

what ever happened to "love thy neighbor"?

I love my neighbor enough to let him know when he is hurting himself, because that's what love really is.

Um... Sorry, but I was under the impression that everyone DOES have the right to marry... someone of the OPPOSITE SEX. It does not make sense to call it discrimination when we all have the same right.

everyone deserves the chance to be happy and to be with the one they love regardless of gender

Reason One:

Marriages are for procreation and ensuring the continuation of the species. The proponents of this argument are really hard pressed to explain, if that's the case, why infertile couples are allowed to marry. I, for one, would love to be there when the proponent of such an argument is to explain to his post-menopausal mother or impotent father that since they cannot procreate, they must now surrender their wedding rings and sleep in separate bedrooms. That would be fun to watch! Again, such an argument fails to persuade based on the kinds of marriages society does allow routinely, without even a second thought, and why it really allows them - marriage is about love, sharing and commitment; procreation is, when it comes right down to it, in reality a purely secondary function.

The proponents of the procreation and continuation-of-the-species argument are going to have a really hard time persuading me that the human species is in any real danger of dying out anytime soon through lack of reproductive success.

Any Individualist knows that to claim to have any right, they must afford all other individuals the same right.

Are you Unforgiven, too?

Love is Love...that is all there is to it!

IT IS AN ABOMINATION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The golden rule is the bottom line! "Do unto others as you would have done to you"... noone would want someone else to tell them who they could marry and why. It's really a no brainer. The ignorant and bigoted may win legally, but never morally!

Hey Rebecca, sorry but you can't quote God's word when you want to make a point and then call it ignorant and bigoted when it doesn't agree with what you want. The Golden Rule you quoted is referring to your reactions to others, not allowing someone to have permission to do whatever they want without regard to decency. That's the big problem. People are so afraid of hurting other people's feelings that they won't stand for what's right for fear of the politically correct saying that they are ignorant or bigoted. It really is a no brainer to go with whatever is popular this week. You haven't used your brain at all. Try reading the whole Bible instead of just a portion to be taken out of context and twisted to suit your needs.

I cannot believe that California is the only one to legalize gay marriage. For Pete's sake, this America and the Constitution states that "All men are created equal." It does not state that only stright people are equal to straight people and that those who are gays and lesbians are less. It states that ALL are equal. So by this logic, every state that hasn't legalized gay marriage is being unconstitutional and thus committing a crime.

wow this is amazing and so true!!!

Love isn't just blind for straight people. Love is gender blind.

everyone Has a right to merry and be loved. who are we to judge what is right!?

I don't agree with E P. I mean It's a biasic human right to marry. My Uncle is gay and he had to move to England to get married. And that is not on

I totally believe love is to be spread toward EVERYONE.....BUT...GOD has His rules, read Romans chapter 1, pay close attention to verses 26-32. I need to add,WE ARE ALL BORN A SINNER, but it's up to us to CLEAN up our act, God is sure to give us all the strength we need to do that. Our body parts were made a certain way to go a certain way, like ADAM and EVE. Too many people put God and His word on the back burner until they NEED his help in something.

Why do we always insert GOD into the battle of same sex marriages? I may not agree with the lifestyle but they're adults who have found their soul mate. Is there anything more wonderful and gratifying? Doesn't the Bible teach us to love our neighbors? Doesn't it also say that we should judge not lest ye be judged? We as humans are quick to point out the faults and shortcomings in our fellow man but somehow overlook our own faults. Let us put aside our religious bias and just be good and loving human beings. . . to everyone!

Ya but not every last person in the world is a **** christian or agnostic and your rules don't apply to everyone just because you personally believe in them. Everyone is human and has needs and whether there is a God involved is neither your place or mine to say. When it gets down to it being gay isn't just for sexual gratification but for the individual as a person just like any other healthy relationship, its just same gender, thats the only difference. And to be so bull headed to think that if there is a god he would not know about making people in such a way, or make it a sin, is annoying and asanine. And also you are obviously forgetting that the Bible was made my man - altered through various times for many reasons, parts even completely ommitted. Even if the Bible was holy - it aint anymore. The facade of christianity is practically an attempt to unitiarianism, religious opinions aside. I am not saying there is not a God but what I am saying is that you yourself have no right to condemn anyone's lifestyles or say they are bad just for the mere fact they go against YOUR personal beliefs. And if you wanna talk about how organs were made a certain way like Adam and Eve, you do not want to go down that path with any gay or bi individual. If our organs were made for a certain function then i bet they are multifunctional. So grow a set and actually do something the Bible DOES tell you to do quite frankly and constantly: just **** be loving to those around you, accepting of who they are, and it will be reciprocated.
