Intended Recipient:Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences Description:CONGRATULATIONS HEATH! WISH YOU WERE HERE TO ENJOY THE ACCOLADES! THANKS EVERYONE! Dark Knight’s success was expected, and if you were lucky enough to see the movie you probably are still experiencing the after effects of the late Heath Ledger’s terrifying performance as the “Joker”. An Oscar nomination is inevitable for Ledger and I think it is safe (and sad) to say that he is the James Dean of this generation. Only one star has won an Oscar from beyond the grave (Peter Finch, Network in '76) so we shall see if the statue will go to Heath early next year. I have not read one bad review of Ledger… even The New Yorker gave him a rave (and that says a lot). With all due respect, this is one hellava way to go out.
Sign this petition if you feel that Heath Ledger's performance as "The Joker" deserves an Oscar.

I was a huge fan of Heath and was heart broken when I heard of his death. When I saw The Dark Knight I was in shock for days at how amazing his acting was. His talent was taken from the world to soon.

It's rare that you can say "I've never seen that done before," but I've been saying that since I first saw his performance in this movie. He was wonderful, and deserves every acting award this year that there is.
I believe that Heath Ledger deserved this 100%. He suffered when he made this movie, and it was all for his amazing performance. He gave everything he had to this movie, and he definately is the best actor I've ever seen.

Death or no death Ledger would have been elevated to god status in movie fandom and his Joker would forever walk on water.
As far as Jack Nicholson as Joker arguement goes...different director,different film tone. An Oscar winning actor giving a great performance BUT was it the best supporting performance that year or worthy of Oscar consideration? NO. Why? Because although I love the 1989 film also- I spend alot of the movie wanting more Batman because after a couple of scenes Nicholson's Joker becomes predictable(not bad but not surprising).
Heath Ledger created such a diverse out of the box Joker that as an audience member you actually start to be afraid of him and you can't figure out what he is going to do next. Ledger BECAME the Joker, Nicholson played the Joker and you can feel the difference. Jack was good but Heath was legendary and we would have said it even if he were here today. Fans would have been begging for him to be the Joker again. Heath pushed that movie to legendary status and all that money. People were seeing it 2 and 3 times and people who normally wouldn't go see a Batman movie were waiting in line to see what all the buzz was about. I live in NYC and that movie was selling out 7pm and 8pm shows on a monday! All people could talk about was Heath as Joker...he was so amazing we all forgave the very bad throaty Bat voice,we all sat for the extra 22 minutes even though the movie could have ended right around when Joker escaped and set up a 3rd film,we even forgave the unnecessary killing of Two Face.
Every actor in that film gave their best performance(Bale as Batman's voice notwithstanding) and still Heath Ledger outshined them all: Morgan Freeman,Michael Caine,Christian Bale,Gary Oldman and Aaron Eckhart. And they all would whole heartedly admit Heath Ledger stepped up and made history and unfortunately for us 'fanboys': one movie is all we get. Fortunately for us: that one movie is legendary.
If Heath Ledger doesn't deserve or get an Oscar for his performance then I will be confused as to what BEST SUPPORTING ACTOR actually entails. Last year Javier Bardem won it for 'No Country' and Alan Arkin won the year before for 'Little Miss Sunshine'...if Heath's performance doesn't stack up against those two then the Academy should be ashamed of itself.
