Description:
You know, I have been hearing so much... wait, TOO much about another Spears being pregnant.
One thing I have not been hearing about was charges for the father. While we have heard all about the relationship and the panic of what will happen with the show, there has been no mention of statutory rape.
So where did conception occur to put it politely for all ages? California, where she works/lives? Mississippi in his home? Louisiana where she and her family most often live?
I keep seeing dad's age listed as 19. If that is true then he would be guilty of statutory in all three states, if they had been intimate in all three. It looks like only the family can raise the issue. Why? If a crime is commited doesn't the state get some say as to whether or not they want to file charges?
Perhaps if we start enforcing the statutory rape laws, perhaps we can slow these kids down a little. I am not stupid enough to think that kids (minors) will stop having sex before they are legal. But there is no reason that we can't keep the people who are supposedly role models to our children from flaunting what they are doing.
Tell America and the world that you care what our young role models portray as right for our kids. Join me in saying that statutory rape is wrong and that our laws protecting the young must be upheld.
I didn't know the father was that old. When I first read about this I assumed he was sixteen like her. As a Christian I would suggest old fashioned morality as well as teaching that sex involves responsibility once a child is conceived. But I'd probably be laughed out of the room. In a way though, it's a sad story. I don't condemn Spears, in a way with the media the way it is, whatelse are teenagers to think. On TV there are no consequences. No STDs no unwanted pregnecies. It is sad in it's own way.
Well, you are right, the morality is not being reinforced like it once was. think back to the tv series James at 15, then later it was James at 16. The show dealt with real issues and (in my young mind) seemed to tackle them with good moral answers. there are quite a list of shows that have done it, but they just don't seem to compete well with the more mindless action/reality shows.Even the shows that were more theological in theme like Joan of Arcadia, loved it, but it did not last. Highway to Heaven, seemed to do well, but when you put it up against a show like Survivor, it won't make the ratings. Shows that teach strong (or even moderate) morals don't tap the average viewers desire for salacious content. they don't want to think or be challenged. I am not asking for scripture (from ANY faith) be poured into all the shows, just give us a selection of programs that have the REAL reality, yes that there are homeless, sad, happy, pathetic, loving, angry people out there that must make choices. show that those choices mean something. yes, i like my mindless times too. I just see that we need to have the options there too.
okay, since she is a minor, it would be up to her family, and obviously they don't have a problem with it, so why should you? you don't know this guy or Jamie for that matter, therefore you have no idea what their relationship is about. not everyone that young is in it just for sex. granted, the majority are, but you can't assume that for absolutely everyone. it would be different if she was running around with several men and sleeping with them. if her parents weren't concerned for that, I'd say that's a problem, but it doesn't appear to be that way. yes, I agree way too many young kids are having sex, getting pregnant, becoming parents. but as long as they're taking responsibility for it, praise them for it. at least she's not being heartless and getting an abortion because of a decision she made and doesn't want to deal with the consequences. I believe abortion is only okay if say it happened due to rape, or medical problems that could cause the mother to die. if you're just irresponsible, then no, if you don't want the child, the state will find someone that does. that's getting off the subject though. my point is, everyone's making it a big deal just because she's a celebrity. so what, she's still a person. and what she does is her business, as well as her family's. if they are willing to help her through this, then good. more parents should take notes. and so what if they're three years apart. no one will say anything when it comes time for them being say 30 and 33. it just seems a lot now because of how young they are, but in reality, it really is not that big of difference. I know she's 16, but come on. give it a rest. she has every right to do this how she wants, and I don't see it a bad thing her parents helping her instead of shutting her out. they obviously trust him and like him, otherwise I'm sure they'd press charges. I would agree with them doing so if she was not willing. I'm sorry, but just because she is 16 does NOT mean she doesn't know what's she's doing. she is old enough to know responsibility. so it is just as much her fault as his. I don't agree with the state having control over decisions for things like pressing charges for statutory rape. if the parents decide it's necessary, let it be their choice. remember, these are people just like you and me, and the state knows nothing about us, just like they don't know jack about their PERSONAL lives, which they are entitled to. and I don't think the state should have any right to make it their business, that would be an invasion of privacy.
Good picking up on the statuary rape thing, too many people are focused on how she ruined her life that they were too busy to see that HE ruined her life, he was the older of the two which means he should take more responsibility for what has happened not her. Older men manipulate young, naive girls, he was waay to old for her and he used it to his advantage. Don't get me wrong, Jaimie Lynne also is responsible for it, she had the choice to say no and she didn't but for the most part he played to her inexperience.
Granted I don't agree with the age difference, but life is life, even though she is very young a new life should be celebrated and should be supported not said that it is a huge mistake. No baby should ever be called a 'mistake' Well thats my opinion.
You are CRAZY! and the rest of americans that believe you. The father was 18 when the baby was conseived.
SO! by law in mississippi the parants cant do anything.
So you were there when conception occured? Please tell me, which state was it?
Did you also note that there is something called "age of consent"? If a person is under the age of consent, then it is a NO... they are considered incapable of giving consent to sexual relations. hence the term "statutory rape" because they can't consent it is rape. Never heard the term 16 will get you 20 i take it... Charles, sounds like you better be careful or you may have a judge explain the law to you in a way that really wakes you up.
Wow, you're right. Nothing has been mentioned about that. I heard his grandfather said the boy wanted to marry her. Let's follow up the first mistake with a second. Good thinking. Oh, and her mother was writing a book on parenting. Not going to touch that one...
I used to watch that show. She was supposed to be a good role model. And yes, another Spears has thrown their life away.
