This is America, people!!! The primary language in English. If you live here, and are an American citizen it should be mandatory to speak it!!!!

Did your ancestors speak English when they came? Mine didn't; they spoke German and an Irish-Gaelic dialect. When the first Englishmen came here, did they speak the tribal langauge of the indigineous people who were already here? There is no difference here, so be consistent.

How are they supposed to understand their orders if they're not speaking English?

• Secure the whole border with a sense of urgency and setup temporary check points along the whole border every mile, and man them with National Guards troops with these rules of engagement and defend our border by any means necessary.
• Zero tolerance for Illegal immigration nationwide. No Sanctuary Cities. We must stop the reason they come here in the first the place i.e. jobs by making it very expensive and very risky to employ illegal Aliens.
• Attrition through Enforcement
• Self-deportation can also be maximized by cutting off all services to illegal aliens (no bank accounts, no social services, no ID's etc.) and stepping up the enforcement at all levels from landlords to local law enforcement. Attrition through enforcement is a more reasonable and achievable solution,
• No Amnesty: There will be no offer of any path to legal status for any illegal aliens. Amnesty undermines U.S. law and policy, rewards bad behavior, and is unfair to the millions of immigrants who follow the law and are awaiting legal entry into the United States.
• I will stand behind our border agents. The two border agents currently wrongly imprisoned will be pardoned immediately. I will give our border agents access to whatever they need to make their job possible and keep our borders secure.

 I need your support to turn this effort in solid real action plan, this can be done, with positive thinking and action.    The answer is simple. I Support Joe Vento - Keep the sign in the window. City of Philadelphia spend time and money running the city and making it a better place to live and work! 

i don't personally think mr. vento is being prejudice. he is a businessman and has to deal with a lot of people everyday. the best way to speak to him is clearly and in english. if you can't speak english clearly, get somebody to order for you who can. merry christmas.

I have to teach my employees to speak a million languages rather than someone learning, cheese steak with?  Gimme a break.  If I went to France I would expect to have to speak French to order my food.  I may not like what I get but that's my fault, but hey, when in France...

Why are we spending time and money on this? This is America isn't it. Mr. Vento has done a lot for a lot of people in the city of Philadelphia and out of the city. No one was refused, no harm, no foul, lets move on, and let freedom (of speech) ring.  

I believe it is a straight forward issueIt is his business - if he prefers people to order in English I do not consider that discrimination. If a French or Chinese Restaurant owner preferred that customers order in that language I do not believe that would be discrimination either.It is his business so he has the freedom of speech to request that his customers order in English.

If you don’t speak English, there is no guarantee that you will get what you ordered.

Look, I do not understand why some people are raising a stink about this.  Here is my logic......If the customer can't speak English then more then likely he can't read it.  So…. he will order any way because he can't read the sign!  We have freedom of speech and expression in this country and if Joe wants to hang the sign in his window he has that right.  If  the sign offends you that much don't eat there....Just stop crying about it!

If people don't want to learn English, the primary language of our country, they will be forever handicapped in their dealings here.  They should have stayed in the country that spoke their preferred language.
