Issue:

Elevated levels of mercury in foods by pregnant women can damage fetal brain development, and consumption by children can lead to reduced IQs in children. The most common exposure in North America is to methylmercury through the consumption of fish. New research shows that in addition to retarding brain development, exposure to mercury can also harm the heart, kidneys and immune system.

Belief:

Exposure to methylmercury is a clear threat to children's mental and physical development. The greatest source of mercury contamination is found in fish. Therefore pregnant women and children should consume less fish in order to reduce their exposure to mercury.

protect my children by not serving them shark, swordfish, king mackeral or tile fish; and by limiting their consumption of other fish to 12 ozs. per week.
