President Bush did make a bad mistake in the war on terrorism. But the mistake was not his decision to go to war in Iraq. Bush's mistake came in his belief that this country is the same one his father fought for in WWII. It is not. Back then, they had just come out of a vicious depression. The country was steeled by the hardship of that depression, but they still believed fervently in this country. They knew that the people had elected their leaders, so it was the people's duty to back those leaders. Therefore, when the war broke out the people came together, rallied behind, and stuck with their leaders, whether they had voted for them or not or whether the war was going badly or not. And war was just as distasteful and the anguish just as great then as it is today. Often there were more casualties in one day in WWII than we have had in the entire Iraq war. But that did not matter. The people stuck with the President because it was their patriotic duty. Americans put aside their differences in WWII and worked together to win that war. Everyone from every strata of society, from young to old pitched in. Small children pulled little wagons around to gather scrap metal for the war effort. Grade school students saved their pennies to buy stamps for war bonds to help the effort. Men who were too old or medically 4F lied about their age or condition, trying their best to join the military. You never heard prominent people on the radio belittling the President. Interestingly enough in those days there were no fat cat actors and entertainers who ran off to visit and fawn over dictators of hostile countries and complain to them about our President. Instead, they made upbeat films and entertained our troops to help the troops' morale. And a bunch even enlisted. And imagine this: Teachers in schools actually started the day off with a Pledge of Allegiance, and with prayers for our country and our troops! Back then, no newspaper would have dared point out certain weak spots in our cities where bombs could be set off to cause the maximum damage. No newspaper would have dared complain about what we were doing to catch spies. A newspaper would have been laughed out of existence if it had complained that German or Japanese soldiers were being 'tortured' by being forced to wear women's underwear, or subjected to interrogation by a woman, or being scared by a dog or did not have air conditioning. No, President Bush did not make a mistake in his handling of terrorism. He made the mistake of believing that we still had the courage and fortitude of our fathers. He believed that this was still the country that our fathers fought so dearly to preserve.. It is not the same country. It is now a cross between Sodom and Gomorra and the Land of Oz. We did unite for a short while after 9/11, but our attitude changed when we found out that defending our country would require some sacrifices. We are in great danger. The terrorists are fanatic Muslims. They believe that it is okay, even their duty, to kill anyone who will not convert to Islam. It has been estimated that about one third or over three hundred million Muslims are sympathetic to the terrorists' cause... Hitler and Tojo combined did not have nearly that many potential recruits. So... We either win it - or lose it - and you ain't gonna like losing. America is not at war. The military is at war. America is at the mall, or watching movies. (Remember Obama said in his book 'Audacity of Hope,' 'I will stand with the Muslims should the political winds shift in an ugly direction'.....what better place for the Muslims to control our country, than in the office of the President of USA! Friends, if we don't have a president who will stand forever with Israel, God's chosen people, then we don't want that president.) , If ever an email needed to be forwarded, now is the time. Ask God to watch over us this Election Day. Please pray about all of this. Remember: Pray, Vote, Pray. Submitted by Gina S. on Sun, 07/27/2008 - 18:23
Bush and his whole rich oil baron buddies in the white house belongs behind bars forever. I don't think we need to keep this man up when he leaves office. When he leaves office he will get his mass wealth that has been put aside for him by the oil companies in offshore accounts and he will enjoy his life on the island that he has purchased to retire on and free of extradition. MichaelR(B.B.B.09)oh yea your right he wasnt in office to vote on the iraq war.he wasRUNNING for office at the time and he did not support the war.a much braver thing than standing up once your job is secure Submitted by michael Hussain r. on Thu, 06/26/2008 - 20:28
MichaelR(B.B.B.09).if you spent half as much time studying the issues as you have the so called religious beliefs of a fellow member of a nation founded on religious freedom you might realize that bush is a criminal who stoled YOUR rights to make his friends rich.(Exxon,Mobil to start operations in Iraq this month)the real reason Americans are dying.and you support the guy who says this was the right thing to do.i don't care if obama is/was Muslim, christian,or atheist what matters to me is does he believe in our constitution.as it is obvious that bush/mcsame dont Submitted by richard h. on Thu, 06/05/2008 - 19:34
im tired of hearing people crying about our american military torturing P.O.W.S. just in case people have forgot that we are at war and there are no rules to winning one. it seems that you people are quick to judge our military tactics on our enemy in which im sure that none of you have ever been in iraq or any other war. we are not in some ferry tale war to where every one plays nice not even our enemies who have beheaded our U.S. Troops, and as far as the country of iraq its a good thing that we rid the iraqi people of thier tyrant dictator who was a threat to U.S. and the western part of the world and Israel. Submitted by michael Hussain r. on Thu, 06/26/2008 - 21:49
MichaelR(B.B.B.09)the reason we make a big deal about torturing our enemies is because real Americans care about human rights, and most Americans are smart enough to know that torture does not produce useful intel.if we went to war to SAVE the poor iraqis from their evil dictator then how come we are not attacking robert mogabe in africa or north korea,or better yet saudi arabia where torture is the rule of law women are property and oh yea where 9 out of 11 attackers on 9/11 actually came from.and yes your right.good thing we came and rid the iraqis of sadam.and just think of all the other great things the iraqis have gained because of our presence there.over a hundred iraqis dead daily they didn't have that.a three front civil war,al-qiada(they didnt have that before)lots of free time to enjoy the lovely weather since they have no jobs to take up their time or homes to block their view.no water or electric bills to worry about.as they rarely work.and at the top of the list they now have exxon/mobil to sell there oil for them.they didnt have that either. the fact is we have done great harm and wrong to the iraqi people and owe them a debt probably greater than we can repay for starting this illegal war.sadly you seem to think that just because our enemy is inhumane we should be too.(how american).i am glad and proud that most of our young heroes dont think like you. they are trying their best to uphold American values and help the people of iraq in spit of bush policy.your assumptions about the level of service of must of us who are against torture is foolish and ignorant.not only am i a us army veteran but one of the most outspoken critics of us policy on torture is john mccain a man who has been tortured himself by a us enemy.i may not like his politics but i respect and admire his service.my personal belief is that only cowards and evil people EVER excuse torture. once again tonya 9/11 had nothing to do with sadam hussaien.there are people being murderd by the hundreds of thousands by their govt.in darfor.kim jung ill is building nukes, and the people who realy attacked us are growing stronger in afghanistan while our troops die and our milatary grows weaker in iraq.so please tell me why lying about the reasons to send our troops to fight a war in a land that never attacked us was the right thing to do.yes we have rid iraq of saddam;and electricity, and running water, and hospitals, and schools, and homes.there are hundreds of thousands of iraqi dead and over 3 million homeless becouse saddam was"horrible" and you say nothing is perfect?then as if that isnt enough this president authorizes torture.to"save american lives"america is supposed to be called"land of the free home of the brave.becouse we would rather die than give up our freedoms or our morals.thats what fighting for freedom means.he did this in my name your name and every vet who has ever served.yes i take this VERY personely and if you don't that would explain how we got here.maybe i needn to grow up.but you need to learn to look at the whole issue not just the part where some one says mean things about a president you personaly like.as for supporting the troops i suggest bring them home and do a better job by them than they are getting now in the ill equiped underfunded veterans facilitys we have. First of all I never said this country was any safer, because it is not. No everything has not been done for the right reason, but what is, NOTHING. Not political or anything concerning money anyway. The sooner you grow up and realize that the better off you'll be. My statment was primarly to support our troops and yes I believe Bush was right to do what he did after 9-11. I also believe that when taking out someone like Sadame H. who was absolutly horrible to his people and has definatly been a threat in the past, you can't go wrong. As with anything there are right and wrongs, nothing is perfect. I am so sorry that you Nora and you Michael have such a self absorbed EGO, that you can not even bare to hear a opinion that is different than yours with out turning it into a personal attack. You both need to grow up. Submitted by michael Hussain r. on Sun, 05/11/2008 - 07:33
i see my comment about ego struck a nerve.and im sure that made it hard to concentrate on the substance of the issue.once your over the hurt feelings please feel free to to give me some facts as to why what we have and are doing in iraq is good for america or iraq.also answer this if you will do you support torture?.do you believe that those who practice it are good leaders or evil men?please explain. Submitted by Nora W. on Mon, 05/05/2008 - 18:13
seems not too many people care about justice here. Yeah, Bush and gang should be behind bars, and no Tonya, they haven't made you safer. If anything, we as Americans are more hated now than ever before thanks to Bush. Even McCain admitted this war was for oil. You really think Bush did this to make you safe? If he wanted to make you safe, he would have continued to pursue the perpetrators of 9/11. The only people benefiting from this "war" are Bush's corporate cronies. They have made billions which your children and their children will be paying for. Oh, and "Bravo, Mr. President"? When he had a chance to defend his country in battle, in Viet Nam, where was he? Grow up Tonya and anyone else who ignores this administrations' crimes. Submitted by Tonya M. on Sat, 05/03/2008 - 06:20
Yes, it is a unstable world and it will continue to be unstable and get worse as long as we let it. I say Bravo Mr.President for all that you have done. Thank you for standing up for me & my children, and yes all the ungrateful people of this FREE country. It is FREE because of all the lost HEROS who knew this country was worth defending no matter what the cost. The HEROS who have died during this war choose to be a part of it, they didn't get drafted. They were proud to be American and stand to defend her. These Heros will be mourned forever. I am eternally grateful to them and would never disgrace them by saying their mission, this war, was a mistake or unjust. I am PROUD to be American and what it stands for. God Bless our Troops and Country Submitted by michael Hussain r. on Mon, 05/05/2008 - 04:03
tonya m. every thing this president has done has increased the instability in the world and this country.yes it is a free country but the front line for freedom begines at home, when we hold our government accountable as our forfathers intended.keeping quiet and doing and excepting whatever the president says is the way of SHEEP not AMERICANS.our troops are HEROES on that at least we agree.they are following the commander in chief who answers to the american public so if we let him order it they are duty bound to prosecute the will of the PEOPLE as presented to them by the president.for that they are heroes.that being said does not change the fact that there never was anything in iraq to defend america from.as to this all volunteer milatary you speak of many joined becouse they believed the same lies as most of us,many for a chance at a decent education witch most people cant afford any more, some just for a job now that your beloved president has encouraged big bussiness to take their jobs overseas, but most i suspect are young patriotic americans who wanted to serve our country and the principals of freedom, and as was i nieve enough to have blind faith and trust in;if not the president himself then the american people to do the right thing.as for my child its my duty as a parent to teach her to think for herself,to question those who would lead us,to particapate in our democracy, and to exercise every one of her rights as a humanbeing and an american.lastly i must say it is people like you who make sure our young people will keep dying.rather than admit we were decieved,or mistaken,or(god forbid)wrong and change course you would rather keep on sending more and more men and women to die for big oil and YOUR EGO! i say it is you who lacks true patriotism taking the lazy path of least resistance and personal resposibility.B.B.B.09. First of all Michael R. I did not personally attack you like you have choosen to do me. I am expressing how I feel which is why you put this on here. No I would rather have all of our troops home but I also know that they still have work to do. Maybe the deception that you refer to was not as dangerous to us as we were led to believe, but if you think for one minute that everything was fine your crazy. Just the inhumane ways of the leaders was bad enough. People grip about giving big businesses tax breaks to stay in this country and then cry when they leave. You can't have it both ways. No its the crazy wack-o's in this world that keep our young dying and the librals who keep crying boo-hoo we can't do that. So what if he killed your family, we must be nice and remember his rights feed him steak and rub lotion on his bottom. Give me a break! The lazy path of least resistance is exactly what you suggest we do, lay down and pretend everything is okay while we get rolled over. I don't really care if you think I'm patriotic, I know who I am and what I stand for. Let me ask you a question, answere it honestly. Do you vote? If so how many elections have you voted in? As for EGO, apparently I stepped on yours since you can't handle someone having a different opinion than yours. Submitted by michael Hussain r. on Sun, 05/11/2008 - 07:07
i cast my first vote while in the army in 1980 for ronald regan and have voted for president 6 times both republican and democrat over the years though mostly democrat.i never sugested doing nothing or coddling anyone.i am all for attaking anyone who attacks us.not liking someone or being afraid of some one is not a reason to bomb them.if our troops were fighting al qiada and the taliban in afghaistan this would be a differnt discusion.the saudi government allows a man to cut off his wifes breast if she offends him,9 out of 11 terrorests were saudi,we can be friends and do bussiness with them?but we bomb iraq becouse saddam was horible? there are people being killed by the tens of thousands in darfor by thier own government why not help them?you think im a libral becouse i believe it is cowardly and unamerican to give up our morals and our rights out of fear?no every thing is not fine.and the deception i refer to is that perpetrated by this president and it is the greatest threat this nation and our rights have faced since mcarthur.bottom line is this. no matter what justifacations you might wish to use these are the known facts.1.iraq did not have anything to do with 9/11 2.there were no nukes or nuclear capability in iraq.3there are no biological weopons in iraq.4 al qiada is only in iraq becouse of us.5.three million iraqis are homeless.6.hundreds of thousands of iraqis are dead there are almost no doctors, hospitals, running water,or electricity this means we have no reason to be there and have done great harm by our presence and actions.american patriot understands that to blindly follow ones leaders is the path of destruction for our way of life.i am an honorably discharged us army airborn vet.willing then and now to defend this country.and right now this country needs defending from george walker bush and anyone who thinks that pre emptive strikes and torture are american values.
