Ban toy gunsForum Discussion for Ban toy guns Submitted by stan g. on Tue, 08/19/2008 - 15:33
There's an interesting article in the paper today about this... Submitted by sandy v. on Sun, 04/13/2008 - 20:58
They have tried this since the 60's. Like with everything else, ban it so everyone will want it. Teaching kids is the answer. TEACH, something parents seem to be too lazy to do anymore. If your kids know the truth and facts (show them if you have to), then you won't have to worry if you lousy neighbor is careless with his gun in his home and your child is a guest. EDUCATE, not ban cause it hasn't worked yet in over 40 years. Children have been shot by officers that couldn't tell it was a child or a toy gun. Take your kids to a hospital to see what a gun wound looks like and how much damage it does, or the morgue. Yes, this subject is that serious as to inflict a lesson such as this. Just imagine when the gun point at you.How many of you could find immediately that gun is not real and toy and behave calm.If it's dark,if It's little far or if imitation toy gun look real,it would cause tense and dangerous situation. You might have real gun and might shoot for self defence.Shoud ban toy guns. You want things banned, go live in some communist country...otherwise shut up and enjoy the freedoms we have to choose how we live our lives and raise our children. Submitted by Randy H. on Fri, 03/14/2008 - 05:56
How long do we really want to tolerate the vaginization of our society? Lord I sound like a fossil... I firmly believe that part of our societal issues revolve around not letting our children be children. We used to play army (with bb gun fights that our mothers would have skinned us if they knew (oh yeah mother can't punish like that anymore because it is abuse)) run in the woods, scrap on the playground or meet off of the school grounds to fight. We settled things, getting the problems out of our system, bot letting it boil because we can't release the stresses. Some schools let the two boys put on boxing gloves to settle things under supervision. There was a rifle team that competed with other high schools in Portland Oregon. It was not uncommon for boys to have a rifle at 12, regardless of the law. Let our kids be kids again and perhaps we can move society back to a less violent place to be. I know it sounds backwards but really take some time to ponder it. Submitted by James S. on Thu, 03/13/2008 - 17:23
You can't wrap your kids in bubble paper and child proof the world. Kids need to be educated about guns as soon as humanly possible, but to take away one of the oldest and most traditional toys in our culture would just be un American. If you do take them away, are also going to have to remove legos, sticks, duploes and heavy construction paper because when I was a kid I made all of those into guns, and sometimes grenades. GUNS ARE GUNS NO MATTER HOW YOU LOOK AT IT. BY ALLOWING CHILDREN TO PLAY WITH TOY GUNS THEY LEARN TO "PLAY" WITH REAL GUNS. ALL CHILDREN SHOULD BE EDUCATED ON THE DANGERS AND SAFTEY OF FIREARMS WHEN THEY'RE OLD ENOUGH..BUT SHOULD NOT EVER BE ALLOWED TO PLAY WITH TOY GUNS... HELL, A TOY GUN CAN GET YOU KILLED!
