Can't believe I am still signing petitions on this issue, 30 years on. I am as passionate about this was I was in 1978 when I signed my first anti-whaling petition. I view this a little different. I want to ban the killing of the whales but Native Americans had to rely on the whale for far too many things. These tribes that were given the right to slaughter 1 or 2 whales by treaty rights. I feel we should honor that agreement. On the other hand, if they find that any of the meat goes to waste, then something should change. The whale had to do with religious rights also. As far as the other nations, and the Japanese, they are not using meat for science and we all know it. I do feel they should be boycotted of all imports from those countries. I love whales, all whales and personally don't want any killed. Until they rebuild their population, I feel they should be protected even from the Natives. Then and only then should we honor our agreement with the Natives but we should honor that agreement.Natives work very hard to rebuild shellfish, fish etc with their own programs. The Japanese tried to stack the whaling commission with people that agree with them. Dangerous.
