Description:
Issue:
Whole Foods will be ending its use of disposable plastic grocery bags, in all of its 270 stores, by Earth Day, April 22. They will still offer paper grocery bags made from 100 percent recycled paper to those who don't BYOB.
Belief:
Plastic bags are made from petroleum, a resource that's becoming rarer and more expensive by the day. The bags are virtually indestructible. Once manufactured, they stay in our ecosystem for generations.
They are littered everywhere and they clog our waterways and kill marine life.
I have my groceries delivered and they use plastic bags and boxes. I use some plastic bags for rubbish and I recycle the rest. If I shop in person I use my reusable green bag. It's been great as I have avoided using countless plastic and paper bags and that must save the shops money too because they would have less bags to buy.
B.Y.O.B Bring your own bag!!
Many grocery stores have a program where you can bin or buy permanent grocery bags that are used over and over again and are never thrown out. They work better too if you have ever had one of those plastic bags break on you.
