Popular video game developer Infinity Ward announced recently that they would be relying exclusively on first-party matchmaking servers for their upcoming release of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. This decision eliminates the environment of user-run dedicated servers that has been used in the past by the Call of Duty PC releases. The end result of this is that user modifications to the game and custom content such as user-created maps and gameplay senarios, all staples of the PC online multiplayer gaming experience, are at risk of being unavalable in this game. Comunities of players that once formed around these dedicated servers would no longer have a place on Modern Warfare 2.

The purpose of this petition is to request that Infinity Ward, or its publisher Activision, include dedicated multiplayer server functionality in the PC release of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.
