Description:

We the undersigned would like to be clear that WE DO NOT WANT the major of Pedology to be change entirely to Child and Adolscents Studies.

I HATE TO ALARM YOU BUT PEDOLOGY NEEDS YOUR HELP WITH A VERY SERIOUS ISSUE THAT WILL
AFFECT THE STUDENTS DIRECTLY AND THE ALUMNI  INDIRECTLY. THE NEW DEAN OF THE OF
PROFESSIONAL STUDIES SCHOOL IS FORCING DR. VAUGHNS AND DR.BARNETT TO CHANGE THE
NAME PEDOLOGY TO CHILD AND ADOLESCENTS STUDIES, IN ADDITION THE CURRICULUM WILL BE
CHANGED FROM BEING CLINICAL TO MORE OF A RESEARCH BASED PROGRAM. THE DEAN NEVER
QUESTIONED ANY STUDENTS ABOUT THE NAME CHANGE AND WE ARE THE ONES WHO ARE PAYING
FOR OR HAVE PAID FOR OUR EDUCATION IN PEDOLOGY...  IF YOU CARE AT ALL ABOUT HOW THIS
WILL AFFECT YOUR FUTURE, OR EVEN IF YOU ENJOYED THE PEDOLOGY PROGRAM PLEASE
TURN YOUR PASSION INTO ACTION SO THAT WE MAY
STOP THIS FROM HAPPENING...
REMEMBER ADVOCACY IS SPEAKING UP FOR THE PEOPLE WHO HAVE NO VOICE....
WE THE STUDENTS AND ALUMNI HAVE A VOICE SO LET USE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Forum Discussion for Changing Pedology to Child and Adolescents Studies

You may murder the english language but surely pedology should be paediatrics

I agreee that keeping the name Pedology is for the best. I understand that many people are not fully aware of its meaning but as one of the other students has stated, explaining the name is a wonderful ice breaker. I know for myself I selected the major pedology because it was different but the possible careers were endless. I am a person who is very passion about children and their welfare and with this major I am not restricted to just dealing with children in one type of arena but instead a variety. I do understand that the program does need adequate funding but instead of changing the name to get the funds, we should clarify exactly what Pedology is and how great the program has been. I don't agree with changing the curriculum from being clinical based to more research based. I feel that with having a clinical based curriculum it allows the students to get more hands on experience in addition to the book knowledge. A more research based curriculum will restrict a lot of the hands on but increase the use of books. I feel that having a combination is great but having just one will not allow the students to get the most they can from their education in Pedology.

Look point blank they should leave it alone.

I love having a degree in pedology because its different and I think it should be upheld in dr.pennix's name she fought hard for this and to seen her dream go down would be an insult so I say leave it the way it is

crystal

The name should not be change!!!!!!!!!

The name is different and it keeps people wondering what the name means untell you tell them.

For those persons who are shy this a GREAT ICE BREAKER for them. ALSO A WONDERFUL ICE BREAKER if they are a job interviews and any one else . This alows them to become comfortable and relex during the interview. Explain the meaning of PEDOLOGY IS NOT A GOOD REASON TO CHANGE THE NAME BUT A GREAT REASON TO KEEP IT. If someone does not know the meaning then we as students are PROUD TO TELL THEM. Lets us keep ARE PRIDE!!!!!!!!!

I love having a degree in Pedology. The curriculum is so eclectic it gives students the option to do pretty much any human service field they choose from early childhood education to social work. In job interviews, employers are impressed with the subjects I have taken, that often that alone lands me a job. The role plays that Dr. Vaughns had us do have been so beneficial im my career (I'm a case manager) and no amount of research can prepare you for the field at hand. It's not about the name it's about the future of Pedology. We have to fight for the future alumni of BSU!!!!!!!

Fight for what you believe in!! Pedology For life!!! Dr.Pennix's dream is not in vain!!

I believe that the name Pedology: Child Studies or Child & Adolescent studies would suit well for the degree program based on recognition after completion of the program as far as the job search is concerned but what is really being fought is the notion of changing the program to a R E S E ARCH based program.

am not sure what everyone else is doing these days but I know for a fact that I would not have been able to go into a Graduate level Counseling program had the Pedology program been research based! Just think...do you really think that we would have been able to succeed professionally and academically from the program had it been research based?!?

If they switch the program to a track of that sort, the students will be writing versus counseling, being indirect assistance versus direct help to children and families, and forced to know the DSM-IV off of the back of their hands to clearly and precisely understand the information being presented in their course of studies to fully understand R E S E ARCH in counseling. So we are talking likely no sign language, no criminal justice, and likely few of the other courses that prepared us for further educational and counseling fields. Are we really going to sit and allow that to happen? This isn't just about US, it's about the current students and prospective students as well as those that they will go out and help which will be targeted by this change.
