This has got to one of the sickest things I have ever heard of! Cutting off their fins and then leaving them to die. If you want soup, try tomato or vegetable. Thanks for letting us know about this.

What does it say about us as human beings when we can wake up one day and decide lets cut sharks fins off and leave them to die a painful death, and not even twitch at the thought just once? People have ruined this earth, have caused pain and peril for all living creatures and beings. I really hope that there is a light at the tunnel cause we are going to burn!

It is totally inexcusable for this cruelity to happen in this day and age. We really do live in a very sick world indeed.

Shark attacks on humans that occur every year are most likely the result of sharks using self-defense to avoid being killed. If before sharks were unaware of our presence, now after we're constantly infringing on their territory, they know that we're a predator whose main aim is to eat them. I am deeply saddened by the fact that a market exists out there that thrives off of the notion that shark fins are a delicacy. How can people even bother to eat such "delicacies", knowing that these sharks were deliberately caught to have their fins cut off and then thrown back into the water like a piece of trash? Even animals in the wild have more dignity when they kill their prey. For example, a cheetah or a lion gets its victim by the throat and waits for it to suffocate first before tearing it to pieces. And humans ("the most intelligent species of all") have the indecency to not only rip animals apart while they're alive, but to leave them dying on their own knowing that they're going through immense pain thanks to the wounds that humans have inflicted on them. We live in a sad world and it's only up to individuals that care about the environment to save it. This cruel market is messing with the marine ecosystems in our oceans and causing it to become unbalanced, and hence will lead to the extinction of many marine species...and someday to our extinction as well.

This is a prime example of inhumane practices against animals. There is no reasonable explanation for torturing a creature, no matter how vicious it may be, just for a small body part. More attention needs to be brought to this campaign, because this is inexcusable.

I didn't know about this. What kind of a person would do that?A hunter or fisher should at least kill its prey first, and then use its flesh, and even with this I, personally, do not agree.It's an awful thing to kill a creature only to use a small part of its body. I mean, it's not essential for anybody's survival. There should be laws against this. Those who do this do not qualify as HUMANS.

Sharks are in their natural habitat and should be kept that way.What if strangers invaded our house would we just stand there and let them shoot us of course not, we're going to fight back. That's what the Sharks do protect their domains. Back off, leave them alone or get your arm ripped off!!

I have been aware of this fact, but I have unfortunately lacked to impetice ot do anything about it. What is happening is horrible and mentioning it on Discovery Channel is not enough. These animals deserve a fighting chance and people don't care because they fear the sharks unsubstantiated reputation.
