Description:

Exxon Mobil Corp again breaks its own record for the highest-ever profit by a U.S. company.

Exxon Mobil pump

Earnings from its exploration and production business rose about 68 percent to $10.01 billion, but its refining and marketing earnings fell about 54 percent to $1.56 billion.  Hmmm, who is supporting opening up the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge for exploration and production?

We, the undersigned, pledge to not purchase ExxonMobil gas or products until they invest in renewable energy and energy efficiency to save consumers money at the pump and help secure our energy future.

Today on MSN Explorer it states that ExxonMobile is feeling the crunch. Too bad. Instead of following the greedy in raping the taxpayer car owners, they could have found a more friendly approach.
They have been recording record high profits each and every quarter for about two years now. The CEO's have been receiving multi-million dollar bonuses.
The public has had enough, not many can take vacations anymore. I won't cry for Exom (Nasdaq header name)
It will hurt America, but I won't cry for the CEO's when they start losing their riches.

FYI, I'm not a supporter or protester of ExMob.
I'm impressed that the discussions have not been FOR this 'Simple Jack' "protest" group. Here's some items to note: only 18% of the worlds oil is publicly traded (Exxon is only 3%). Exxon's profit MARGIN has actually fallen in recent years due to rising costs etc. Some more info http://www.gravmag.com/oi l2.html
There's so much more out there to read about how the politicians want to finger point in addition to create pointless laws (like the stock speculation law)
Focus on the real problems (Hard working Americans losing their homes...the American Dream!!!!
)
if you want to protest something then protest Citgo (they're the dictator run foreign oil company that is actually stealing from Exxon).
In fact, this application is probably a secretly Citgo supported group. By joining this petition you might be supporting the oppressive Venezuelan regime, drug trade, terrorism, oh my God don't sign this petition. Will someone make a petition to undo this petition before it's too late. Before drugs are running rampant on our streets and drug Czars attack our country! Oh no too late.... AHHHHHHHHH!

I agree wholeheartedly. Citgo's mother country and dictator are America haters and would celebrate our demise.
They are strong backers of Obama. Why is that? Has he made some deal with them?
I don't know, but I pose that question for you more intelectual types.

Another point, who is making money on theose record profits? 60% of oil US company stock is held by pension funds (like teachers, police, private companies) and mutual funds. So the people making money on these "windfall" profits are probably you, your parents, your neighbors. Oil company executives only own about 1.5% of the total stock.

It looks like most of my points about profit margins and taxable earnings have already been made by others. Here's another thought, if you don't buy from Exxon, where will you buy? Citgo? Shell? Those are both foreign owned companies (Citgo is the Venezuelan national oil company, go Chavez), so their earnings don't really contribute to the US economy. At least Exxon is a US company. Also, Exxon may be the largest US company, but it ranks #14 in the world. Most of the bigger ones are state owned oil companies like those in the middle east. I'd rather have Exxon get bigger than those other companies that have no vested interest at all in US growth and success.

*NOT TAKING A POSITION, SIMPLY LISTING FACTS FOR YOUR OWN INTERPRETATION? I DON'T LIKE PAYING $4 SOMETHING A GALLON FOR GAS; NOR DO I LIKE MUCH OF THE CORRUPTION AND POWER THAT OFTEN IS DICTATED BY MANY OF THE CORPORATIONS IN AMERICA AND THE ETHICAL PRACTICES (*in some cases borderline criminal) AT THE HIGHEST LEVELS.

**BUT I DON'T THINK EXXON MOBIL IS THE SACRIFICIAL LAMB THAT MANY ARE MAKING THEM OUT TO BE. IF ANYTHING THEY ARE HELPING OUR (MAKES ME NAUSEOUS JUST TO THINK ABOUT) FISCALLY INEPT (PUTTING IT LIGHTLY) GOVERNMENT AND THE WORST 8 YEARS OF EXECUTIVE LEADERSHIP THAT I COULD EVER IMAGINE. (*TRY TO DEBATE THAT ONE WITH ME, I WILL RIP ANYONE SO I'LL INFORMED OR JUST DELUSIONAL ABOUT HOW AWFUL & JUST PLAIN INCOMPETENT THE BUSH ADMINISTRATION HAS BEEN FISCALLY IN ***SO MANY RESPECTS!!)

***BOTTOM LINE THOUGH BACK TO EXXON MOBIL, THEY ARE NOT THE VILLIN HERE (AT LEAST AS FAR AS I CAN SEE RIGHT NOW GIVEN THE FACTS:

-1. EXXON DOES *NOT SET THE PRICE OF CRUDE OIL. THE MARKETS, TO A DEGREE OPEC, AND MAINLY THE GLOBAL COMMODITY EXCHANGE DOES THAT.

-2. THEY EARNED (*SEE ABOVE) $10.8 BILLION DOLLARS IN NET INCOME FOR THE 1ST QUARTER OF 2008. **AND THEY PAID $9.3 BILLION IN TAXES FOR THE 1ST QUARTER OF 2008. ***(I DON'T KNOW EXACTLY WHAT PAYING YOUR FAIR SHARE MEANS, BUT ABOUT $1 OF TAX FOR EVERY $1 DOLLAR OF PROFIT YOU EARN SEEMS PRETTY REASONABLE TO ME??

-3. THEY WILL PAY APPROXIMATELY $35 BILLION IN TAXES IN 2008. (ROUGHLY 8% OF OUR GOVERNMENTS ESTIMATED $450 BILLION DEFICIT FOR THE YEAR 2008.) IF MORE COMPANIES WERE THIS PROFITABLE AND PAID THIS MUCH IN TAXES THE FISCALLY INCOMPETENT BUSH ADMINISTRATION MIGHT NOT HAVE PUT SUCH A DEEP WOUND IN THE HEART OF WHAT I PRAY WILL CONTINUE TO BE THE MOST PRODUCTIVE ECONOMY IN THE WORLD.
--side note:
-4. NOT TO MENTION THE NATIONAL DEBT=(*running total of the annual deficits over all the years) OVER THE PAST 8 YEARS, WHICH WAS ABOUT $5 TRILLION DOLLARS AND SHRINKING WHEN PRESIDENT CLINTON LEFT OFFICE, TO ABOUT $10 TRILLION DOLLARS BY THE TIME BUSH LEAVES OFFICE IN A FEW MONTHS. (*AND EVEN WORSE WE, UNLIKE THE PAST, DON'T EVEN OWN AS MUCH OF OUR OWN DEBT AS WE USED TO)

I only boycott the stations that don't fix that clicky thing that holds the trigger to the nozzle.

Those are taxable profits.

Like it was said below, if you stop pulling into the stations that have an Exxon sign out front, you're only hurting the guy who owns the store, not the corporation. They'll just sell their gas down the street. Even if it did hurt the corporation, why would you do that, when the real culprits are ourselves and our shortsighted energy policies?

You want investment in energy efficiency? Go after the automotive industry, they're the ones who have the ability to implement that.

Ugh! Panic-style campaigns like this make me sick! I'll never forget the story about the petition sent around to eliminate Dihydrogen monoxide (http://www.petitiononline .com/h2o/petiti...). It was meant to prove a point, that a panicked public would sign anything.

I am not a defender of the oil companies, but there are companies that we buy from everyday that have higher profit margins then exxonmobile. Maybe you shoudn't buy a washer and dryer from ge, because they have higher profit margins, or maybe you should boycott microsoft. I don't like to pay $4 a gallon, but it is the fault of our liberal representatives in Washington who are failing us. It's great that out Democratic ran Congress and the Senate are on a long vacation while we suffer at the pump. Way da go Nancy Palosi. We need to drill here in our country and drill now.

These efforts are valiant but empty.
Boycotting Exxon will not help this situation that we have brought on ourselves. We have yet to advanced from the Model T which was created 100 years ago. These high gas prices are a result of our continuously growing narcissism the majority of Americans suffer from. Did everyone really think we could keep driving gigantic vehicles and consuming oil at rates higher than remotely necessary? We have got to learn how to use other resources. Spurring innovation into continuous energy should be our focus. Prodding at a company competing in an oligopoly market to research alternative methods is ridiculous. Why would Exxon research resources that could destroy their core competency. No business owner, no matter what industry, would do that.

And with China growing at the rate that it is, prices are going to go nowhere but up; With or without speculators.

I don't think we should be forcing any company to invest in any development, but I think you're wrong that Exxon would never invest in and research alternative energy sources. Eventually we will get off oil, so it would actually be in their best interest to be ahead of the curve so they can continue to be successful in whatever the new energy market turns out to be.

There should be more capitalism and less imperialism. It's capitalism that made us great.

Don't buy Exxon...

Well Said Michael K. I own a Mobil station and if you don't by from me or my fellow station operators we go out of business. Does ExxonMobil? No they just sell to other branded stations and still make record profits. Boycotting a brand is a bad idea. Reducing use, finding alternate engergy sources, and removing energy speculators (or at least limiting it to people who can actually take delivery of the product) are all the best ways to reduce the price of gas and oil.

While I agree with the idea of reducing the exploitation of the Energy Industry, I don't agree with this motion. The real villain in this process is the Energy Speculators (the worthless people who trade Oil and Gas futures, and who drive up the prices every chance they get). Several notable and valid experts have gone to our worthless congress and recommended we do away with the speculators. One of them even said that if we eliminate the speculators, Gas Prices would fall to about $2.00/gallon.

Exxon and the other gas companies are, according to official records, making a lower profit percentage (profits/expenses) then they were a year ago. However with the cost of Oil drastically rising, even the lower profit percentages, their profits are up.
So if you want a good petition (and one I'll sign in a heartbeat), make a petition to eliminate energy speculators (like Enron, who was an Energy Speculator) from the market.

I haven't bought Exxon gas since the Valdez incident.

also make sure you don't buy from Nike, because they had human rights issues in their plants in China.
