Issue:

As things are progressing it looks like the 6 detainees at Guantanamo Bay will be tried in military court and preparations are in place to possibly have them executed right on the island.  I wanted to start a forum but I think a greater discussion would be started with a vote.

Belief:

These people in all likelihood are probably guilty of the crimes they are accused of.  Many, if not all of us on some level, would like to see justice for the atrocities committed on September 11th 2001.  Some of us quite honestly might want vengeance.  I know I would if I had lost a loved one on that day.  The word that is stinging in my mind though is not the word “retribution” but the word “precedent.”

If this precedent is set and 6 people are allowed to be tried in a closed door proceeding, with “confidential” evidence that, on many accounts, was gleaned through torture then where does that leave us? How long is it until they can start torturing us for information?  Could we find our selves in secret prisons?

I don’t know the answers to these questions.  Maybe with the state of the world we live in this is the prudent course of action.  Maybe these men are guilty beyond a reasonable doubt and are to dangerous to be left alive.  It just seems like this could make people feel a little icky and have shivers going down their spine.

So the vote is going to be.

First: Do you feel a shiver when you read about this stuff?

Second:  Do you think if you feel a shiver you should put on a sweater because sometimes justice and vengeance are the same thing?

Third:  You are totally against this course of action.

Fourth: Some times we must do what needs to be done.

Forum Discussion for Executions May Be Carried Out at Gitmo

As you wrote, something has to be done with this step-by-step limitation of citizens' laws in the USA. The same process has begun in Europe. I absolutely agree, criminals who are really responsible for 9/11 in NY, 3/11 in Madrid and 7/7 in London must be punished. We, the free people of the world, shall never let anybody to reestablish totalitarian state. Therefore we must consider and commemorate our great heros. People who dared to stand up and fight with totalitarian regimes in the past. One of the bravest was cpt.Witold Pilecki - officer of Polish Army, who let the Nazi Germans to imprison him in German Auschwitz concentration camp. (See details in my campaign 'Let's Recall Witold Pilecki')

Greetings from Krakow, Poland.
