It is surprising that at this day and age, millions of people around the world are still victims of poverty. Salil Shetty, Director of the UN Millennium Campaign, put it this way: "We actually today have as many obese people in the world as we have hungry people. So there’s no shortage of food. It’s just a question of distribution."

Our generation is more than able to defeat poverty once and for all. We have the resources, the knowledge, and the capability. What we need now is to join together on this issue, and take a stand!

At The Borgen Project, we believe that one of the most effective things we can do is contact our congressional leaders and speak on the behalf of those living in poverty. With a simple 30 second phone call, we can voice our support to increase funding for global poverty. By mobilizing large numbers of people to do the same, we will make a statement that our leaders will not be able to ignore.
