Description:

Delaware Route 41 from the state line through Hockessin and down to Rt 141 has been a "pass through" for truckers for way too long. For those of us that live in the neighborhoods that line Rt. 41, we're tired of the noise, pollution, and safety concerns that these big, loud 18-wheelers present to our way of life. Rt. 41 is NOT a business thruway or a highway of any kind. It's a road with private driveways, church entrances, daycare centers , and school bus stops for our children. Our politicians in DE talk about improving the quality of life in New Castle County. One easy and impactful way to make living in this part of DE better would be to put an end to trucks from PA cutting through the top western corner of DE on their way to markets in MD and NJ. Delaware roads should be a "short cut" for truckers. Help me get the word out. The residents along Rt. 41 are tired of the trucks!

Forum Discussion for Get the trucks off DE Rt. 41

We who live on or just off of Route 41 and use this route daily know the impact that these large trucks have on our everyday lives. Most of Route 41 is a 2-lane road passing through many small towns and communities and carrying a very heavy traffic load with the majority of the traffic being large, commerical trucks. Why is this problem never addressed and why don't the people of Delaware demand a change in this traffic pattern? We are grateful for the new traffic light at Brackenville Road and Route 41 but it is a small effort towards improving the safety along this route. Also, the new traffic pattern at Rt. 41 and 841 in PA was long overdue and only happened because of a new strip mall being built near this previously dangerous intersection. Up until this change, trucks would pull into a right-hand lane to make a left-hand turn while cars sat in the left-hand lane with visibility blocked so it was impossible to make a safe left turn until all of the trucks pulled through. We are also tired of the politics involved that keep road safety as a low priority.
