Description:
GMAC was recently approved by the Federal Treasury to become a bank holding company, which means it is now elligilble to receive funds from the $700 billion TARP fund. In addition, The Fed paid $5 billion to GMAC to receive a stake in the company and is also offering them up to $1 billion in loans.
There was speculation that if GMAC didn't receive any help, it was going to go under, taking GM along with it. Do you think the government should have stepped in and offered GMAC so much money, or should they have let it figure their problems out on their own, even if it meant they went bankrupt?
