I am doing a research paper on child abuse and how to prevent it and why the gov't isn't taking more control towards it. Did you know they have 5 million dollars that they basically throw away, because in order for the money to be given to the states the gov't has to continue working with each individual state. But they are too lazy so they basicall throw the money away.

Reading all the story's on what has happened to so many abused and sexually assaulted children it tears me up inside and makes me sick to my stomach to think of the people who do this. I'm so sorry for anyone who has been through that I can only imagine what that has done to you.

Most sex offenders are defective and most are unable to be rehabilitated. This has been proven time after time after time. I know this from experience. These people should be locked up for ever or they need to be put in their own "state" and not allowed out without special permission and 24/7 monitoring. These people are sick.

i have been through 5 different types of abuse and im only 14. i think the people that harm other people th way they harmed me and others like me should have to suffer for what they did. it seems like they get a slap on the wrist and i have to live with what happened to me for the rest of my life and thats hard tto do.

I have read a lot of these comments and I feel so terrible for you. I have never experienced any abuse, but oh man I ache for you. It is horrible and there is not enough punishment. No one should become a parent if they can't handle it. There is adoption. What is wrong with these psycho's. To the mom with the children being abused. I am so sorry that they still have to see their father. I am a mom and I can only imagine how it breaks your heart that they must see him like that. You are doing a good job.

I am 18 years old and was sexually physically and mentally abused as a child. I was molested by my uncle and my little sisters father, but neither were convicted of nothing. I have a lot anger and trust issues and have a difficulty have a nice relationship with any guy. I can still remember everything that happened to me. And to make matters worse my mother was drug addicted and wasn't there for me. I have been to every type of counseling because I was assigned them from all the fights i have in my life. None of them work because the memories will always be there.

I was abused from the time i was 6 to 9 years old. and now im 16. the person was supposed to go to jail for almost 2 years. he got out on good behavior and only ended up spending 6 months in jail.

Anyone who abuses children should be severely punished. Only cowards would abuse children.

Child abuse should result in extreme punishments. The consequences on these children are ridiculously severe and result in dangerous outcomes. People who are abused as children can develop serious psychological issues. Is it fair for a person who was abused to be punished for a crime they committed that otherwise wouldn't have happened had they had a loving, caring childhood? Parents who abuse their children can be an indirect cause for future crimes and should therefore receive an equally harsh punishment.

I am 66years old I have been sexually molested by my father from 3yrs old to 16 when he died. I still remember all the things he had done and will never forget.

i believe that the punishment for child abuse should be VERY strict. I am a strong believer of this because no child has a say in who their parents are. children should be treated with respect and care. obviously the punishements are not harsh enough because their are still millions of children being abused: mentally, physically, and sexually. it's just wrong. period.

I have two children that have been sexually abused by their father. My boys have been through enough! However the court tells me they have to visit with their pathetic excuse for a father every Wednesday for two hours. Their father has not got punished at all. He refused to be interviewed by the police and DCFS and still gets to visit them. It makes me sick to my stomach that he is getting away with this. What kind of world do we live in? I told my children they wouldn't have to see him until he was better. I PROMISED. He hasn't even been through any kind of therapy. I WISH HE WAS ROTTING IN PRISON. My babies will live with this for the rest of their lives and so will I. All I keep thinking is where is the justice in letting these people run free.

I totally agree that punishments for child abusers should be not just harsher but extream. I can't beleive sosiety is so cold to this matter. There are kids abused and raped every day. WHAT ARE WE GOING TO DO ABOUT IT???

First off let me say, any punishment is too good for them. I am 16. My mother and step father have been married for 7 years. 3 days ago, he snapped and beat me pretty badly. The police let him out with a domestic assault charge and are waiting for the state to take over the case. We have an order of protection, but I will NEVER feel safe again.

I was physically and sexually abused as a child and I definitely think that the laws should be more strict for those who abuse children. I am 16 years old and still traumatized by what happened. Even though the two men were the only male figures I had in my life they scarred me for life. No child should have to endure that sort of pain and it gives you too much self hate. You blame yourself even though it isnt your fault.

Absolutely. These criminals need to be held accountable for these unacceptable acts against the innocent and defenseless children and future adults/parents themselves. Laws need to be clearer and punishment more severe. Physical abuse of a child should be looked at by the legal system as belonging to the family of'attempted manslaughter', due to the proven horrible damages which occur as a result of child abuse. And the ones who do survive are permanently affected throughout the progressive stages of adulthood. I have a sister who was sexually abused as a child, over 25 yrs ago, and to this day and for the rest of her life, how she is and thinks and relates are all results that abuse suffered as a child. It stays with people, one way or another. The offenders need to be punished more severely! They should not be allowed to walk around in the streets freely while their victims are stained and forced to live forever affected.

I was a severely abused/molested child at the hands of a stepfather.I am now 56 and still trying to get past it. I am so thankful there are laws now. As for me I never knew of any.I and my Bro. indured some horrible things and we have survived,but we need child abusers to be sentenced to life with no parole.

for those whom have been a victum i am sorry; however, i hope that child abuser get much more time if not sent to a state pen. CHILD ABUSE SHOULD BE A FELONY in all states now matter it it was a first time affence.

I was a victim of child abuse by a neighbour and i believe abusers should be hung. It ruins your life no matter how much therapy you have as you never really get over it and it stops you having a proper relationship as an adult.

In our area we have had a 2 & 4 year old brothers bashed to death by the mums boyfriend. Another case where 4 month old twins had their heads bashed in and killed by their dad. A person I know that has used her daughters as drug runners since they were in nappies....16 years ago. And still manipulates them with mental abuse.. And they still want to stay with her. WHY?? And there are so many people that can't have children. My sister spent just under $750,000 in IVF to get pregnant. It's just so unfair. They take the joy and love of children for granted. It's a gift given to us to cherish. Not abuse.

The sad truth is that the system that is suppose to protect the children doesnt. watch the Britney Spears vs Federline or Kim B vs Alec B. Any peabrain can see what is going on,why can't the judges? don't tell me that they don't watch the news? The system is forever taking children when they should'nt and giving them back when they should'nt,from my experience you have alot of educated idiots who's only experience is out of a book.making decisions over innocent lives,I cringe as I write from my experiences,there are a few good judges,mediators,but most are idiots especially the women.most women referees,not real judges think with their hormones!and are almost always biased,they favor the mother,even if the mother is a threat to the children! I don't know about other states,but in Ca you will proabably get in more trouble for hurting an animal,then if you hurt a child.the system is really a joke when it comes to protecting children,we dont need more harsher laws the laws are there,what we need is men and women with experience and know what the hell they are doing.
