Issue:
Schools are teaching less and less important issues. For this instance let's tackle heath class. Perhaps it is because we are afraid of offending overweight people like me... but we are not talking enough about real health issues. The schools are buying pre-packaged lessons that are geared to spreading mass amounts of credits in many areas. One major project may require the kids to draw, and do some light writing, but nothing in depth. It ends up being a major part of their grade at the end of the grading period, but they don't retain much. They are no longer learning about the real building blocks of diets and what vitamins or minerals have what effect on the human system. That is basic stuff. When the schools are outsourcing the cooking (yeah catering) because it is cheaper and the diet ends up being 30% fat. I am not exagerating on the fat content. Our school still has the soda machines because they get a kick back err, I mean commission. Soda addiction is horrendous, I am having a very hard time cutting it down, let alone out of my diet. Just go look at high fructose corn syrup's effects on our bodies.
Belief:
I believe that as early as our children can grasp the concepts, they need to be taught real health. Not the propaganda, but the real facts of health.
i wish we had HEATH class,
haha,
i pledge to walk and smile, i already do!
Even though I home school my children now.....I have written complaints about vending machines in middle and high schools. I've managed to have two machines removed...:( it's not much but I'll keep working on it.
Congrats, I am not having much luck with the vending machines... but the menu seems to be improving.
Well, my son's school, has stepped up and made big improvements in their dietary values. now if they would spend more time teaching real health. The bun-heads won't do anything to make the religious right a little edgy.
Many schools are doing there part. Ours is providing less 'fat' type of foods and more nutritious foods. I wonder how health conscious they can get before the demand drops for school lunches and profits won't support 3rd party companies from providing the food service?
