Description:

Issue:

STEVE FOSSETT HAS BEEN FOUND. THANK YOU EVERYONE!

YOUCHOOSE.NET OFFERS A $10,000 REWARD TO THE FIRST YOUCHOOSE MEMBER WHO PROVIDES INFORMATION LEADING TO THE RESCUE OF STEVE FOSSETT.  TIME IS OF THE ESSENCE!  PLEASE READ ON:

On Monday, September 3, 2007, Steve Fossett, the first person to fly a plane solo around the world without refueling and the first person to fly around the world in a balloon went missing in Nevada. An airplane he was flying failed to return. No one has any idea where he is.

Through the generous efforts of individuals at several organizations, detailed satellite imagery has been made available for his last known whereabouts.

Belief:

I believe that if we each take a little time looking at the satellite images and marking those that may have signs of Fossett in them, we could find him or determine what happened to him.

I pledge to...

Look at satellite pictures and mark those that appear to have evidence of Steve Fossett.  get started here

"possible site?" lat=39.9160911905, lon=-119.079397965 this looks like a fresh crash site. sorry for being off the path but i really think he went north. he needed minimum 10 mi. of flat runway, nothing at all close in the south but winnimucca dry lake near Gerlach is the only real spot. Take a look and tell me what you think....
This is a high tension powerline tower and it's shadow---if you zoom out you will see others.  The line is running approx. SW~ NE.  There is an additional set of lines to the north.  Incidently, you can use these shadows like a sundial and tell what time of the day the image was taken!
It does look like a crash site, trail leading to a "burn" area and debris.  I could not get close enough to tell (eye alt  1500).  Unfortunately there are no overlays that would indicate a recent image.  Turn it in - for a possible old crash... it might help someone.

To elaborated ot the original post, i measured the black trail leading to what might be the wreakage and its apprx. 110 ft., what appears to be the fusaloge is approx. 24 ft. When using the tilt and zoom features on GE, it looks like the black is a diving crater and the white peice is above ground. Anyone else see it?

I tried the tilt and zoom can't make out the "crater or the white piece above ground" ... it still looks good

I see it but the problem is that you are looking at pictures that were taken before Fossett went missing.  You won't find him if you are looking outside the boxed areas set by Mechanical Turk.  It's like looking for yourself in your Grandparents wedding photos, you are going to be there.  Please check some of the postings below if you are not sure how to load the newer file from Mturk.  We can do this if we keep at it! :)

Sorry, that should say, you are NOT going to be in your Grandparents wedding pictures.
Maybe I am tired of looking but doesnt this look like a cockpit of a plane with the propeler axle on the front?

eheheh forgot the coordinates

  38°40'5.40"N

118°49'28.19"W

If I have your cordinates correct, no discoloration, maybe rock out cropping.
It's hard to tell.  I do see a light colored spot in the same place on the old image file so this may not be anything important but the older image is blurry so it's hard to tell what it is.

All please read John's post about the new image area.

If your coordinates are not between 38 0 - 39 0 and 118 23 - 119 30 and then also within the dark green area or white highlighted area on google earth when you load the KML it's old stuff your reporting and we don't want to know about it, you are wasting our valuable time.

Sorry about the previous post,

Please see previous posts about the subject but this works for me.  Also you can uncheck the GeoEye line under Places on the sidebar.

To all GoogleEarth searchers:

The standard GEarth images are too old to show Steve Fossetts airplane; these images were taken by satellite long before Sep 3 2007.  To search for Fossetts airplane, you have to download NEW IMAGES from MTurk (http://www.mturk.com/mtur k/preview?groupId=9TSZK4G35XEZJZG21T60)   by clicking on their KML file (http://s3.amazonaws.com/F ossett-DG/DG/index.kml).  This loads automatically at "Sidebar/Places/Temporary Places" in your GEarth.  If you dont search in the new image area, you are wasting your time.  PLEASE UNDERSTAND THIS.

Also, if you are searching within the new images area, you can use the slideswitch at the bottom of "Sidebar/Places" to vary the opacity of the new image, effectively switching between old and new. If the object of interest appears in both old and new, it cannot be Fossetts airplane, (unless the old images were shot after Sep 3, 2007.)  The new image area can be seen by backing out to a high eye altitude.

ok what is this? out in the middle of no where?!?!? 37°46'29.93"N  118°42'30.53"W   anyone got a clue?

it seems like a building and I think that they are old images
I've prospected a lot of the area around there so I know the area somewhat.  When he first turned up missing I emailed the Nevada air patrol and told them that if Fossett was looking for a flat place for a speed event the only place near to that area would have been over by Dead Horse Well.  The flat is located southeast of the Rawhide gold mine.  It's a dried lake bed with little or no vegetation and it's flatter then a pancake.  To get there from the ranch he would very likely have flown over the Wassuk range and there are some places a plane would not be found there.  Now I'm curious if the Indians in and around Schurz were enlisted to help search for Fossett.  If they weren't then I would sugget that they are contacted and asked to help.  If he did go that way, they know the ground better then anyone else around there.

Please see this one too

  38°35'13.32"N, 118°50'55.03"W

This appears on the old images.

Sorry but i dont know how to put the old KML file

I have some more locations and I would like to confirm

For example this one:

 38°38'36.80"N, 118°49'59.48"W

 Thank you

check out your sidebar and in Places, and see what you ave checked, you ought to find a DG_60cm box, watch out for "GEOEYE-lkonos_1m"  it's the big green layer and early Fossett, and an older layer.  Hope this helps...

 38°47'2.87"N 119°12'13.59"W

I guess this Plane is looking after Fosset and far from crashing (hopefully).

Plane-shaped object at 38° 27' 34.9272" Latitude, 119° 0' 31.3668" Longitude, which in digital deg's is
38.459702,-119.008713.

Have also posted a screenshot of the m-turk/digital globe pic at: http://i219.photobucket.c om/albums/cc235/kc2007_album/search02.jp g

Lots of people are still searching... let's hope that Mr Fossett is found soon.

This Object was there before - check the objects by click off the actual layers - so you can make out if the object is newer date or not..

This needs checked out.  Likely blue object.

Please see this
