Description:

I started driving slower 2 weeks ago on my daily 40 mile commute and increased my MPG from 22 to 28 MPG. I also started to use my cruise control and expect to reach 30 mpg in my Chevy Tracker. http://money.cnn.com/2006/05/01/Autos/driving_for_mpg/index.htm

Numerous studies have clearly shown that you can increase your fuel mileage by as much as 35 to 40 percent - ACT NOW & SLOW DOWN!

Please post stories about how you increased your gas mileage in the comments section below and share your tips and ideas!

I pledge to...

I pledge to drive at least 5 mph slower than I'm accustomed to driving to save fuel, save money and reduce my dependence on foreign oil. I understand this will inevitably drive down the price of crude oil and make my myself and my country more independent.

according from a study, higher gas prices has something to do with refining capacity. Even if oil were super cheap, we would still have a problem converting that oil into gasoline that fuels our economy which would keep gas prices high. Anybody can tell on how to save gas aside from hypermiling techniques?

As far as MPG at 63 mph I get the best mpg in my pick up. When you slow down below the speed limit you think your doing a good thing and you might be for you. However your causing road rage, accidents because people want to go the speed limit and you are impeeding traffic which btw is against the law. Save your gas ride a bus.. As for me I will go the speed limit or a little better to get the mileage I know I can get at 63.. But when the speed limit is 65 I go 65 I don't want to be the jerk you see on cops because I pissed off another driver.. I don't buy the better gas mileage by slowing down I have seen no proof to back it up. Certainly not in my experience so believe what you want save your gas but get out of the way of people who go the speed limit. As far as the diesel mentioned by Bill R.. What year is it? The new diesels get better fuel mileage then gasoline.. BTW diesel is a by product of making gas.. Why does it cost more?

I have slowed down on higway speeds, and I add 3 oz of acetone to my tank when I fill up. My 2000 neon went from 29mpg to 35 on my last tank. I also stepped up to 89 octain vs the 87.

I parked my diesel truck (14mpg) and bought a used Honda Accord 4cyl/5 spd. I now get 32 MPG.Plus I have slowed dowm my speed.

I simply slowed down to 60 mph from 65 mph on my daily commute and increased my mpg from 22 to 28 mpg!
