Issue:

Dozens of protesters faced hundreds of homeowners and supporters of Joe Horn, the Pasadena man who shot and killed two men he suspected of burglarizing a neighbor's home more than two weeks ago.

Belief:

Residents and Horn supporters argue, "Burglary is a risky business."  "It's really simple, don't break into people's houses and you won't get shot".

Protestors feel Horn acted as police officer, judge, jury and executioner all at the same time.  "Yes, they broke into people's houses, but it wasn't Horn's right to kill them. What he did was criminal."

It has not been determined if Horn will face charges for the homicides.

Forum Discussion for Intruder Shot - Right or Wrong?

Many cases of witnesses seeing someone fleeing from houses or apartments, and police later discovers a body. If someone is bold enough to break in someones house, there bold enough to pay the price.

The question is "right or wrong?" Our voting choices are either "Yes" or "No." It's hard to know which way to vote when one doesn't know what the yes or no choices refer to.

This sort of happened to me while living alone here in Virginia. I came home from the local Pub around 9:OO PM and came face to face with a burgular. I ran upstairs, picked up a pistol and took four shots at the running thief. I didn't hit him, but it ended up costing me $1000.00 in Lawyer fees. Discharge of a weapon within city limits. Case was thrown out of court. Would I do it again? you bet. He was later caught in a gunfight with Norfolk Police.

I think I'd like to know if the owners were in the house when the bad guys were trying to break in. If so, then the good neighbor may have saved the lives of a happy family.

I think if would be a stretch to say I could shoot some guy for running out of my neighbors house while he was on vaction with a TV in his arms. I don't think the castle law would protect me from prosecution. I wouldn't bet money on it anyway.

right

It is interesting because if it had been his property there would be far less controversy, or if his next door neighbor was his relative then the could use defense of a family member defense. We can't all go shooting each other like we are in the freaken wild west, but this one really is a tough call I don't think there is a simple answer.

The castle Law needs to be defined. I don'[t feel that it doesn't apply to defending your neighbors castle.

look, if he had time to observe what was happening, go to his gun closet, load his gun and then proceed to go out and hunt them down, I have a problem with that. He had time to call the police.

I want a neighbor like Horn. Most neighbors would not get involved. He did the right thing. What happened if it just wasn't burglary, but rape or murder? Horn would of been a hero too in that case. He should get a medal. This should be a message for all the low lifes out there. IF YOU DECIDE TO DO THE CRIME INSTEAD....YOU JUST MIGHT END UP DEAD!!!

If you commit a crime such as burglary you are taking you life in your own hands seeing we are a society the bares arms. Be a functional member of society and you won't get you ass blown off.

where does it say, kill people who break into a home?

He shot and killed two men he "suspected" of burglary? Whoa, maybe I don't have enough information.
Where I live, anyone can carry a handgun just about anywhere as long as it's visible. I happen to carry a concealed weapons permit, and I am SO not prey! If I observed an armed robbery, or a violent assault on someone I wouldn't hesitate to use deadly force. This guy could shoot them in the commission of the act possibly, depending on the circumstances, but definitely not after the fact!

I agree. "suspected" is not definative! And even with that, where does it say shot intruders in other peoples house?

Some of my neighbors are close to me like family... you attempt to go into one of their homes, you just will disappear off the face of the Earth. You will not be found, unless it is by an archeologist. Due to the way that the legal system has broken down, I choose to handle things in my own ways.

I live in England, and here only the bad guy's have guns, a law I personally would love to change, I shoot and belong to a shot gun club, did shoot hand guns, but we cant do that any more because some lunatic shot up a school, so now all we responsible people have to pay for that.

I did work in the states a while ago and did shoot hand guns, my instructor says I am pretty good too.

This guy that shot the house robbers, was, in my opinion out of order, the house that was robbed was not even his (had it been his, then he would have been right to shoot them both, if they were armed)

Did the owner of the house that was robbed have no protection?

I think he should have called the police, told them to come quick and just observed the situation. I am not sure I remember this part correctly, but were'nt these 2 men UNARMED? please correct me if I am wrong, but I think they were.

I have not heard if he is to go to court, if he is, even though I think it's right, I hope the court will be lenient as I am sure he was scared and didnt know if they were armed, and maybe even killed his neighbour already.

Whatever the outcome, I support the right to bear arms, even though we English are not allowed to.

In this country if someone breaks into your home, you see him, attack him and say break his nose in a fight, it would be the homeowner that could face prosecution for injuring the criminal, now how mad is that?

We had a farmer (elderly he was as well) who had been repeatedly robbed at his remote farm house, robbed by the same 2 brothers over a long period. The police were aware, but due to lack of evidence (as in they could not catch them in the act, due to farm house location) So, one night, when the farmer could take it no more, he hid and waited for them, and like clockwork they showed up, and when they did he shot them both with a 12bore shot gun.

Quite right we all said, but not here, the farmer got 12 years inside because one of the bad guys died, (didnt help when he was shot in the back, running away) the other was wounded in the leg, and because of our crazy, outdated, politcally correct laws, the survivor actually sued the farmer for criminal injuries. To be honest I cant remember the outcome of that, but he probably won.

I just hope that justice will prevail, whatever justice truly is in this instance.

totally right. the world is gone to hell. protect what you and your neighbors have . you have to protect your self brother, and that's that:) No won has the right to take something that is not Therese!!!!!!! Get a job and pay for your drugs the right way...with hard work!

Everyone has the right to protect the home environment. Family, material items are a given.... but that right does not extend across the street or next door into another domain. If he was not in immediate danger he should not have discharged that weapon.

I feel very strongly about this and I believe Horn did exceed the limits but so did the burglars. Horn should have phoned the cops first and only resorted to using his firearm if he was attacked. BUT!! anyone who is prepared to forcibly enter someone's home is not dropping in for a cup of tea. They are doing it with the purpose of committing a crime and definitely have violent intentions in mind. They're not sure whether there is someone at home or not and often the poor homeowner is taken by surprise and harmed. Far too often we hear and read that the law works in favour of criminals and not the law-abiding citizen. Personally, it amounts to two less scumbags roaming the streets with evil intent, however, I remain a law-abiding citizen. Horn should face the consequences of his actions.

Yes he should be charged, the dispachers told him that the police were moments away when Horn left the phone in his house, the police arrived when horn shot them, break and enter is not a deathpenalty crime and lastly the dispatcher told Horn not to do it.

Horn was informed of the law, he knew it was illegal, he should pay.  Horn was in no immenent danger, he had other options such as getting their liscense number, getting a discription of the perps and just generally being a first hand eye witness would guarantee a conviction of the two perps

you was not there there, so who knows.

Perhaps if it was his own home I would have a different opinion, but your neighbors house. You can be the judge, jury and executioner.
