Yankee management needs to reconsider the Joe Torre situation before they lose the key players on this team.  It is still not too late to take a few steps backward, apologize for how they handled the offer to Mr. Torre, negotiate in good faith and try to retain Mr. Torre and the key players opting for free agency.

It could be long decade or more to return to championship form, similar to the ' 80's, the way management's decisions appear that they are going to play out and not be accepted by the players or fans.  After more than 50 years of being a Yankee's fan, I have jumped ship because of how management has handled the Mr. Joe Torre situation.  Not a touch or an ounce of class being demonstrated by management and its owners.

George and Hal----Better yet keep himCool off the bench as it will make things that much easier for my beloved (and soon to be Champion) Red Sox
I'm very, very sad about the situation with Mr. Torre.  I know all the true Yankee fans must be, too.  Although it hasn't been said in the media, Joe must now know exactly how Bernie felt in February.  I wish the Steinbrenner family would realize that the fans would be more loyal [and provide more "business"] if the players and manager were rewarded for what they have done [and can continue to do] for the Yankee organization.  Instead of returning the loyalty that fans, certain players and the manager have shown to the Yankee organization, the owners/management just continue to expect that the fans will remain loyal despite whatever decisions are made and that the players and manager will accept the humiliation it tries to force upon them. The fans care deeply and appreciate what Yankees, like Bernie and Joe, have accomplished during their Yankee days, even as we are left time after time feeling empty because of the decisions of the front office.  These decision show that the Steinbrenners do not have a similar caring, loyalty and appreciation of the manager and players.  Instead of changing managers this year, the Steinbrenner family should change its philosophy and attitude to reward the true Yankees, rather than to try to crush them.  I hope the Steinbrenner family does anything it takes to reverse the manager situation and bring back Joe Torre for at least the 2008 and 2009 seasons.  What the Steinbrenner family has stated in the days following the offer to Joe has only made the situation worse and shows that they have no appreciation for all of the benefits they received as a result of Joe's tenure as manager.  Although I have been a Yankee fan since I was a little girl and I listen to all the Yankee games on the radio, I do not know if I can continue to do so after what has happened with Joe Torre.  Although I have had issues in the past by what has happened with the team and what has been said or done by the owners/management, this time the feelings I have are so much worse and I care too deeply for Joe, for the Yankee players who have been with Joe throughout his tenure, and for what he has brought to the Yankees as their skipper.

PLEASE BRING JOE TORRE BACK, IT BROKE MY HEART TO SEE JOE CRY ON TV, HIS PLAYER'S LOVE HIM, N US THE PEOPLE LOVE JOE. HOW CAN U MR. STEINBRENNER MAKE HIM QUIT, HE HAS BEEN A GOOD MANAGER, THE PLAYERS R THE ONE'S THAT BAT THE BALL, N THE PITCHERS THROW THE BALL, NOT JOE, PLEASE BRING JOE BACK.

Mr.  Steinbrenner and  Sons;

I have never heard of such domineering guys like you  are!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!It's  highly impossible for any Baseball team to win  the World  Series  every  year;  no  team  in  the major  leagues can win a World Series title.  They need luck  on  their side and  help  from  the  BIG  MAN  upstairs.Smile

It's a done deal. He left on his own. He WAS the class act of the Yankees and did the right thing. GO RED SOX!!!
Torre deserves another year or two. Hes getting older and Mattingly needs a mentor for a couple of more years. Hes not ready yet and I dont think Girardi is either, even though he was the manager in Florida, but that was for only 1 season and he clashed with the owner and the GM. That just shows his inexperience as a manager. He would never be able to put up with The Steinbrenners, like Joe Torre did. Now that there are 3 "little Georgies" its going to be harder to cope with the Yankees higher ups and I think Torre will be the only one that will be able to deal with them. He just rolls with the punches and goes with the flow.
I know that Joe said no...........But I hope that George will wake up and smell the coffie. It is not tolate to bring Joe back. If the Steinbrenner brothers are doing this then George must take back control. I have watched the Yankees from the 1950 I have seen mangers come and go  KEEP JOE.
I Love The Yankees My Family Have Been Yankee Fans All My Life I Grew Up A Huge Don Mattingly Fan & Torre's Sister Was My Religon Class Teacher When I Was Younger Joe Torre Is My Idol He's A Great Man & Coach & He's Also 2 Me The Heart & Soul Of The Yankees To Me I See Him As More Of A Friend To The Players Witch Is Why So Many Of The Players Respect Him I've Always Loved The Yankees & I Grew Up Watching Joe Torre Coach The Yankees & Joe Torre Will Always Be A Yankee & What Steinbrenner Did To Him Was A Mockery & Disgrace I Love The Yankees But Without Joe Torre I Dont Think I Can Love The Yankees As A Team Or As A Organaztion

I became a Yankees' fan when Joe Torre took over as Manager.  He has a special quality about him and goes about his business in a professional manner.  I was touched when they won the World Series one year as the first thing he did was go over and kiss his little girl thru the fence.  I have never forgotten that moment.  I am from Pittsburgh and, of course, support the Pirates, even thru these last several not-so-successful years.  But watching Joe Torre and the Yankees always made up for the Pirates' dismal seasons.  I cannot fathom how Joe can be blamed for the lack of performance by his players.  What does he have to do--go out and pitch, bat and field for each and every player along with managing his team.  Look how far down they were at the All Star break and how he motivated them to almost win the Eastern Division.  Joe has earned the right to be the Manager when the Yankees open their new ballpark.  I hope the Steinbrenners realize the great mistake they made and come to their senses and offer him a two-year deal.  How dillusional can they be to expect to win every year.  If that were to be the case then why have any other baseball teams.  I have the greatest respect for Joe Torre and hope to see him back managing the pinstripes again.  Love you Joe.

Now I know why so many people dislike George Steinbrenner. This has to be one of the worst decisions in history. Firing Joe Torre because he doesn't win you a World Series every year is absurd. NO ONE CAN WIN ALL THE TIME, but Joe comes closer than most. He is a gentleman, a great manager, and a man of integrity, which appears to be substantially lacking in the ownership of the Yankees. You are cutting off your nose to spite your face. Be a real man, like Joe, and suck it up. This just goes to show that money can't buy everything, and Joe Torre is one of them.......

The New York Yankees haven't done much since Mr. Levine joined the management team.

Perhaps they are releasing the wromg person, and I agree that signing super Stars of the past has had a damaging effect on the efforts of Joe Torre or anyone in that position.

Why does Mr Cashman's efforts always lead to this effort.

This year was the first in many years that the Yankees have finally considered bringing up younger players, and Joe Torre should be penalized for this???????

Come on Yankee Brass:  Wake up.

You are about to lose one of the best managers baseball has seen in many year, and WHY???????

What can you offer a disheartened Yankee do or die fan?
George has done it again; and his style has rubbed off on Hank - does not take a rocket scientist to see that George and group did not want Joe back; made an offer they expected him to turn down.
If wanting Joe is genuine - make him a real offer - give him the 2 years. Next year or mid season they can Yank (excuse the pun) Joe if the team is not doing well.
I was in Yankee Stadium for a game when the message board lite up that George had just rehired Billy Martin - again. The crowd went wild.
How about an encore, George and group?
Personally I think Joe is better off without the disparaging and demeaning words and attitude recently displayed - and obviously what Joe contended with for 12 years, privately if not in public.
End of my Yankee loyalty; been a good ride; have lost heart.
Saw Joe DiMaggio hit his last Major League home run ... followed the M&M boy, Whitey, Allie, good hittin' pitcher Tommy Bynes, etc ... End of an era ...
Not too late for George to redeem himself. Hope the fans rebel; boycott the games. Make their feelings known.
As Joe said, if they wanted me to manage, I'd be managing. He is shafted ... and over a 10 day waiting period for the prima donna's to gain their courage; is that any way to run a business, George?
Redeem thyself - now... ASAP ...

I ain'y no "damned" yankee, but down here in the South, we know a good man when we see one... Joe Torre should have been offered a better deal!  I can't believe this is happening after what Mr. Torre has done for the "club." Obviously the owners are intelectually vacant or as I see it...from the shallow end of a gene pool.  Shame on you!  Good luck next season...you're gonna need all you can get.  Go Braves!

I dont feel like there is anything that needs to be said. With out question Joe should be signed to another 2 to 3 year deal at 5-6 Mill a year. This could be a move that affects the Yankee's for the next 5+ years.

Mr. Steinbrenner,

Please consider why the Yankee's have been successful, yes I said successful, it is due to a TEAM effort!  That TEAM includes JOE TORRE!

In our lives we have days where we achieve our goals and days where we miss them, in baseball the season has the same thing. The most important fact to remember is the dedication and constant efforts from each team member over the season as a whole, and to weigh the wins through the many seasons against the losses. With this in mind if you contemplate the last 12 years Mr. Torre has managed the team you can only come to the conclusion he is a SUCCESSFUL COACH whose committment and perserverance has not only brought huge success to the Yankee Team, but he has also created a new pride in the Yankee players and fans.

I have lost my respect for you as an owner for only thinking about the down times and let's be honest the money. Honestly if you evaluate those down times you can still see much more than losses, please look at the wins and what has been accomplished to stay in the season through October! I know as a businessman you expect loyalty from your organization, but I ask you where is your loyalty for the hardwork and sacrifice Mr. Torre has made for your organization?

Joe Torre is part of the Yankee Team, remove him and you will lose fans and probably players. All of this equates to losses in the season as well as losses in the financial profit of your organization. This is something you should think about!

THE BOSS

YOUR KIDS ARE NUTS      THEY DONT CARE ABOUT YOUR LOVE FOR THE YANKEES,FOR THE FIRST TIME  IN  20 YEARS...,....I AM HANG UP MY YANKEE   HAT.....JUST AS YOU THE BOSS  DID.......I AM EVEN  GIVING UP MY SEASON TICKETS....WHICH I THOUGH I WOULD NEVER DO  ......GO LUCK IN YOUR NEW STATIUM         IT WILL MEAN NOTHING ANYMORE,,,,,,,,,,NO EXCUSE WHAT YOU DID TO TORRE...............,,,,,I THOUGH IT WAS A GREAT YEAR........

I THINK     THE BOSSES   KIDS STINK........THEY ARE NOT TRUE YANKEE FANS   AS HE WAS.............JOE TORRES   DESERVE THE RESPECT  OF HIS YEARS OF SERVICE........AND YOU GEVE HIM NOTHING IN RETURN.........YOUR KIDS ARE NOT TRUE YANKEES....AND PEOPLE DONT LIKE CASHMAN ATTITUDE  THROUGHT THIS       FANS ARE SCHOCKED.......I HOP YOU LOSE A-ROD....MARIANO  AND POSADA  WHICH HAS ONLY BEEN A YANKEE.........AND HAVE ALL LOVED  THE SKIPPER..............I HOPE THEY LEAVE YOU TO..........STEINBREINER  HATS OFF TO YOU.......YOUR KIDS WILL NEVER BE A YANKEE LIKE YOU.....I HAVE SEEN YOU AT MANY GAME.........IT THE END OF A ERA

LYNDA PALMASANO-------NEW JERSEY       JEFF KARTEN  NEW YORK

MABY WE SHOULD ALL START BEING FANS OF THE METS--THEY HAVE THERE GREAT COACH

THE END OF TH ERA OF THE  YANKEES

To whom it may concern... I'm still in shock that the Yankees would even consider replacing a man with the class and dignity ...not to mention the winning record that Joe Torre carries with him...The stature of this team is at the top of world of sports and that is not diminished by the teams' not winning a World Series these past 6 years... In the past off season,,,the team did not upgrade the staff at all,,,while the Red Sox were very active in a way reminiscent of past Yankee offseasons...What ails the Yankees are all the long term contracts they get stuck with ,,,and that's certainly not the fault of the manager... Kei Igawa ?.... Gee...tks... How about giving Joe a real shot at it with Mr Santana to head up the pitching staff ?....  Donnie Baseball can wait another 2 years...Thank you for listening....  Ken Frankel...Wantagh , N.Y.

Dear Mr Steinbrenner, Hank and Hal,

I have been watching baseball (Yankees Only) since Joe DiMaggio. There have been some pretty good managers in the past but not one of them can say they were in the playoffs for 12 years consecutive! He has been there every year because he usually makes all the right decisions, however if the team chokes in the playoffs that isn't his fault. I agree some decisions he made I didn't agree with, for instance playing Matsui instead of Giambi in every game. But if you think about it, I guess we wouldn't even have been in the playoffs if it wasn't for guys like Matsui the whole season. Joe Torre is not only a good manager but a "GREAT MANAGER". He is Loved by the whole team should be there for the last game of the old "Yankee Stadium" and the "New Yankee Stadium" He deserves it more than anyone I can think of. I Love Donnie but personally I think he'll have a lot of years down the road to manage the Yankees, give Joe what he deserves. Let him take them to another World Series before he steps down, When he goes to the Hall Of Fame (and he will!) He'll go in as the Champion that he is. Evelyn, Deer Park, NY

Mr. Steinbrenner you are contemplating firing a future, shoe in, hall of fame manager.  That doesn't seem like a good thing for the Yankees, baseball and the fans.  You need to keep Joe.  Perhaps reliable starting pitchers would help?
In spite of the fact that we didn’t win the ALDS, 2007 was an extremely enjoyable Yankees season for me. I loved it. A large part of that was Joe Torre, and his management style. Winning/losing the ALDS, or any short series, is a misguided reason for not bringing a manager back.As with almost everything, the largest factor in baseball is luck. One single with a man on third and 2 outs scores a run. 1000 singles with no one on base = no runs. No bugs in game two of the ALDS, and the Yankees win. Mussina pitches in game 4, and we may well have won the ALDS, and everything changes. In the regular season of 162 games, if one team emerges at the top with a large point spread ahead of the 2nd place team, then the leader clearly played better baseball. Luck has been mitigated by the sheer number of games. If the spread is small, then the leader either played slightly better, had a little more luck, or a combination. In a short series between two teams of similar strength, luck is injected as the largest deciding factor. For 2008, with Joba, Phil, and Ian, we have a really good shot at having a 600-700 season, and winning a series. However, an injury to a pinky finger of a pitcher on the last day would change all that.I want to watch Joe manage that team. BRING JOE BACK! BRING JOE BACK! BRING JOE BACK!

IVE BEEN A DIEHARD YANKEES FAN NOW FOR 35 YEARS, IVE BEEN THERE THROUGH THE GOOD YEARS AND THE BAD, IVE BEEN THERE THROUGH BILLY, LOU, YOGI, AND RALPH, BUT THIS YEARS CLUB WAS OUT 14 AND A HALF GAMES ON MAY 29TH AND CAME BACK; JOE HAS HAD THIS TEAM PLAYING IN OCTOBER FOR THE PAST DECADE NO MATTER WHAT THE ODDS, AND ALL YANKEE FANS DONT WANT TO LOOSE HIM, AND ALSO IF JOE GOES U HAVE TO ASK THIS QUESTION; WHERE WILL MO, JORGE, PETITTE, AROD, AND ABREU BE NEXT SEASON ??? KEEP JOE, HE HAS EARNED THE RIGHT TO CLOSE A STADIUM LEGEND AND OPEN A NEW ONE.

I agree and I believe he has earned the right to stay through the closing of the old Stadium and the opening of the new stadium in 2009

I believe that all the blame about the yankees bad luck, should not be put on *joe*!!!! He does not pick the players her only manages them!!!!Maybe someone should choose wiser about who they let call themselves a YANK!!!!!!!!!!!! He does not go out on the feild and play the game either!!!! The yankees have a big role in any outcome!!!! *Joe* has been there though thick and thin with the yankees....the counts for something!!!! *Joe* is not just the manager of the Yanks HE IS THE YANKEES!!!!!!

All good wishes for *Joe* whether he wants to stay with us or not, i believe that he(out of respect for all he has done and been though)should be able to choose for himself!!!

*We All Love You Joe!!!!!!!!!!!!! Nicole Lackawnna NY*...........*Family of Fans*

Joe is manager of the decade period! To take these premadona babies and do as well as they do is a miracle. Maybe it's time to get rid of Cashman, all he sign's are used up old men. (I'm an old man myself, and I'm smart enough to know I can't play baseball like I did when I was 25). It's time for new young ballplayers and let Joe do his thing, remember 1996?

Please do not rehire Joe Torre!. Joe has done a good job and has had some great moments for the Yankees, but the time has come for him to step aside. I know many Yankees fans will disagree, but the team needs this. The team needs a new direction and a new voice at the helm.

Thank you

Mr. Steinbrenner,

Please, don't make the mistake of letting go of Joe. He's without question the greatest manager the league has ever had. No one can claim the calibre victories nor defeats that he has endured being at the helm of what is doubtlessly the most noted and winningest team in all of sports. I'm a die hard Red Sox fan and we all the know how that story goes but more than anything I love great baseball and Joe Torre always delivers along with the rest of the Yankee organization. Losing a guy like that would be a blow not only to the Yankees and the fans worldwide but a major wound right to the heart of baseball. God forbid something terrible should become of Joe's health, however, that's inevitable, such is life. Yet, no man, especially, one who knows baseball would even question whether to keep or not keep Joe Torre, the answer will always be in Joe's favor because it's in the favor or baseball.  So, Mr. Steinbrenner, if your heart is in the right place the decision you make will have already made itself clear and we'll be seeing Joe at the helm of the Yankees next year.

Thank You.

Mr. Steinbrenner,

In all seriousness, I TRULY appreciate everything you have done since taking over the Yankees. It is a great organization, and you have had a lot to do with that. I have a lot of respect for you and everything you do. However, I must make a simple request as a true Yankees fan. Consider the ramifications that fring Joe Torre would have on this team. You and I both know that Mr. Torre has been an outstanding manager since day 1. To let him go now would not only hurt the team in a manager sense, but the morale of the team would dip of for at least a few years. As you are well aware, several players have stated their disdain for your decision, and it has not even come down yet. I am asking you to do what most people (including yourself I believe) think is truly the right way to go. Please allow this member of the Yankee FAMILY to continue to do what he does best, and you will not be disappointed, TRUST ME. Please consider what I have said here today when you make your decision. This is all I can ask, the rest is up to you.

Repectfully,

A small member of Yankee Nation
