Issue:

The trapping of animals in the wild to make fur coats and other garmets is making a comeback in Canada.

Belief:

I believe trapping animals in the wild is cruel.  Many can live for days before being harvested and many humane traps do not kill instantly.  Even if they did the practice is cruel.

I will enquire to ensure what I am buying is not made out of real fur and if it is, I won't buy it.  I will also write my government representative asking that trapping animals in the wild be stopped

I see nothing wrong with buying a coat made out of animals that were trapped in the wild.

Forum Discussion for Live trapping is cruel?

This is cruel indeed. The trapped animals suffer for days. Some even chew their feet off to escape, but probably die from infection and pain afterword. New sources of income need to be found. The fur trade needs to be banned forever!

Live trapping is done in the winter because the animals coat is the thickest then. This means the animal suffers by being caught in extremely cold weather for at least a day and sometimes as long as three days while it is wounded. But YouChoose.Net has created a new way we can reach others about the cruelty of leg hold traps. Look up above and you will see the YouChoose.Net Widget where it says "Share this Link" or "Get Widget". YouChoose.net has created a widget just for this issue. You can post it in your Blog. I saw the Demo 08 film and the widget is a wonderful thing. When someone posts about the cruelty of trapping animals for fur their fun anywhere on the web, it brings that post to you and you can respond. The widget increases your outreach to dozens perhaps even hundred of other websites! It cuts across the walls of the internet. Take a look at the Demo 08 film and see an example of how it works for yourself.

If you are talking about live traps they are not harmful to animals I caught two cats in a live trap and they were just fine i feed and watered them then released the because i was trying to catch a coon that had been attacking my other cat. But as far as killing the animals afterwards I understand people think its wrong but generally they are not killed just for fur they are killed for their meat too. A live trap is considered a cage with a spring loaded door to catch an animal without harm. If they are using snare traps then that will do harm.

I understand that fur will always be a part of the fashion industry, but at least kill these poor creatures as quickly and humanely as possible.Live trapping does not meet these standards. It's cruel.

Hi all, Tania L. has a really good petition about the palm oil industry and it's effect on Orangatans. It has a lot of good information and can be found here: http://www.youchoose.net/campaign/palm_o...

Before buying a fur coat look at this website and see the traps that are still used in Canada, the majority are still leghold traps. Most if not all trapping is done in the winter because the coat is thicker, but it also means the animal suffers in the cold. Please just take a short look, is having a fur coat worth this suffering by animals?

It's sick. There's such good technology now u dont need to kill an animal to do it. Wot they gonna do when there's none left? There'll be designer sparrow coats. Becka

There is no need for live trapping of fur animals.

I'm glad that people feel for the animals. I can't imagine anything crueller. Fur coats have become popular again and I hope that people will start thinking of how many animals died to make the coat. I don't know how many it does take, but it must be well over 15. Only part of the pelt is "good enough" to be used as in the making of a coat.
