Mixed Martial Arts In The Olympics For 2012!Forum Discussion for Mixed Martial Arts In The Olympics For 2012! Submitted by jace p. on Wed, 10/22/2008 - 15:01
it sureley deserves to be an olympic sport, there are fighters from nearly every nation and this would give them all a chance to showcase their skills at the highest level of competitiveness Submitted by Alia L. on Tue, 09/09/2008 - 03:14
sure would be wicked to see but dont really care it be awesome and canada would be okay at it... yah thats about it Submitted by Adam S. on Tue, 08/19/2008 - 15:41
Personally I have no problem just calling it ultimate fighting and leaving the reference to martial arts out of it. I just think the sport deserves to be in the Olympics and may get more people into watching and supporting the Olympics. It's just another draw. Like their is not a need to have women in bikini's to play volley ball but it sure makes it more interesting. }:{)> Submitted by Jeff J. on Wed, 08/20/2008 - 11:47
why do you think it deserves to be an Olympic Sport? What is it's popularity outside of the U.S? Submitted by Sergey Z. on Tue, 08/19/2008 - 15:52
Use Occam's razor: "Entities should not be multiplied unnecessarily." :) p.s. Submitted by Tim M. on Tue, 08/19/2008 - 15:52
Synergy - A mutually advantageous conjunction where the whole is greater than the sum of the parts. -Tim Submitted by Sergey Z. on Tue, 08/19/2008 - 16:31
All depends. Drug abuse: the combination can cause a greater reaction than simply the sum of the individual effects of each drug if they were used separately. The most serious consequence of drug synergy is exaggerated respiratory depression, which can be fatal if left untreated. :)))) Engineering point of view: each part has own chance to fail. More parts - higher chance to fail for entire device. Submitted by Tim M. on Tue, 08/19/2008 - 16:42
True, but good thing this is a topic on the UFC and not drug abuse. In the world of the UFC it's been seen that world class strikers have been dominated by wrestlers, BJJ, and other forms of grappling. So, in the case of the UFC, learning more than 1 Martial Art was necessary to be successful. This is what sparked the term and popularity of Mixed Martial Arts. I see your point why MMA is good, but it doesnt meant it should be olympic "sport" because of it. Submitted by Tim M. on Tue, 08/19/2008 - 16:53
You're right. Basing your answer solely off my posts wouldn't make sense because it's off topic. "Mixed Martial Arts" being in the Olympics is all your opinion. I don't know if it should or not, but I would like to see it in the Olympics because I watch it all the time. I don't think it will for a while, even though it's very popular, but maybe when it becomes more established and accepted as a sport. Submitted by Tim M. on Tue, 08/19/2008 - 15:27
I thought Mixed Martial Arts refers to all forms of Martial Arts. It's not a Martial Art itself but a combination of whatever you want to practice. Also, boxing is not as "brutal" as the UFC, but actually worse for the competitors. Because of the glove size you accumulate more blows to the head which causes more brain damage in the long run. With the UFC gloves you could get knocked out quicker but don't with stain the accumulation of shots. -Tim Submitted by Thomas L. on Tue, 08/19/2008 - 15:11
I do not believe this brutal form of fighting should be in the olympics so I can not support it. Submitted by Jeff J. on Tue, 08/19/2008 - 15:20
yea - how can they even call it an art form? they don't call Boxing at art form - it's just boxing. they should just call it Extreme Fighting and not try to rip off the "Martial Arts" name established by centuries of 'real' Martial Arts forms. Submitted by Jeff J. on Tue, 08/19/2008 - 15:10
No - I do not. As a 20 year practitioner of Tae Kwon Do I prefer to see legitimate martial arts with centuries of tradition in the Olympics. Perhaps in a few centuries after it has it established itself as a real Martial Arts Form. It should not be called a "Martial" art anyway because it has never been used in a 'Martial' setting by any army. Loading People... |
