Description:
Lets make
newborn screenings for primary immune deficiencies universal! Severe Combined
Immunodeficiency, or SCID, is an illness in which an infant fails to develop a
normal immune system. SCID babies can be infected by a wide range of viruses,
bacteria and fungi that are normally controlled by a healthy baby's immune
system. If undetected and untreated, SCID can lead to death before the baby's
first birthday. If SCID is diagnosed in time, there are effective
treatments. Tests are being developed for early detection of SCID and other
primary immune deficiencies. There are over 150 types of primary immune
deficiencies and these are important to diagnose and treat early on. No child
should ever be lost because a primary immune deficiency was left undiagnosed.
As Screenings become available lets make sure all babies can get them.
Please also support research to treat and cure primary immune deficiency
diseases. All children deserve a fair shot at life!
