Description:

It's that time again folks... the American Presidential race is on!  Now that the official tickets are stamped and the signs and shirts are printed, Americans will be watching the campaign trails and hearing what each candidate promises to do if elected into office.

The Democrats have nominated Barack Obama and Sen. Joe Biden as his running mate.  To see where they stand on the issues, head over to their official website: http://www.barackobama.com/.

Sen. John McCain chose Gov. Sarah Palin as his running mate and the Republicans nominated them for the 2008 ticket.  You can see where they stand by visiting their website here: http://www.johnmccain.com/

YouChoose wants to know what you think.  Who do you think will make the best president?  Who will make the change that America so desperately needs?  After you vote, be sure to join in on the discussion.  And, please, keep it clean.  We all know how heated politics can become.

I also cast my ballot and yes change begin with each one of us How,the first step to change is voting. that is how i helped make achange as did you, even though we have had our different opinions and voted for different people I still hope only good for you. God bless you NICOLE R>

I have cast my vote and I am very proud of my decision. I know I voted for the right man who has the best interest of ALL AMERICANS. A man that keeps him self open to the public eye. A man who doesn't control what should be known for the best interest of himself. I will only pray the rest will vote for the right reasons. I keep hearing how alot are voting for one man who promises change. Well I believe the change begins with each American not one man. Change is good but one man cannot provide this it takes each American to change within themselves. We have failed to realize that change doesn't come from the president nor the congress nor any part of the government. Change begins with you!!! We will not be able to survive off false hopes. May God bless all of us.

Nicole, that is exactly what Obama keeps telling us and his campaign proves his point. We ALL need to get involved to see a change occur. If nobody cares or has hope they can make a difference, then nothing changes. Obama's campaign brought together so many people from all ages, races and walks of life and gave them hope for the first time in many years. For some people it gave them hope for their future for the first time in their life. Who would have dreamed 50 years ago that an African American or a woman would have the opportunity to run for either President or Vice-President and make it this far? The fact that both things occurred in this election is huge. No matter what happens today, doors have been opened and they will not close again. History is being made.

I just thought I'd tell all of you to have a happy voting day tomorrow! Also, pray for who you're choosing. Choose the one that represents your values, morals, beliefs, etc., as this country seems to have many different views on many different issues. Don't get blind-sided, as I will agree that I did for a little while on ridiculous things, in this. Realize what's important to you and your family and exercise your right tomorrow based upon that - not all of the junk that's been spread all over the place! I for one, am choosing to support McCain and Palin based upon my Christianity beliefs based upon the Holy Bible, being Pro-Life, Pro-Gun, his military experience as a relfection of his age, he is a seasoned politician, and has served our country for a long time already. Between the 2 ( Obama and McCain ), we have chosen McCain and Palin based upon where they stand on these issues, along with other personal feelings on some issues. Here's a web site to go watch the video clip if you're like me and Pro-Life: http://americaschoicenow.com/ .......On another note, a lot of you do disagree with those of us supporting McCain and Palin and want to support Obama. That's your choice, as it is our choice to support McCain and Palin. But, most of all, I'm mostly thankful to live in a country where we can exercise our right to vote on who we choose to support! What an awesome privelege we all get tomorrow! Let's all remember that when we cast our vote for whoever we're choosing tomorrow! God bless all of you and your families....GOD BLESS AMERICA ALWAYS!

Well said Amy!! I'm not one to choose a president based on morals and values, or even issues. So I will be voting for the person who shows significant signs of leadership by running the most organized and impressive campaign in history, versus the person who has run 3 presidential campaigns, 2 of which were major disasters (sign of leadership problems). I will be voting for the person who stayed calm in a crisis, rather than making an abrupt decision that proved to have been a very bad idea (just like George Bush does). I will be voting for the man who chose a running mate with a solid college background and enough experience to make it easy for us to vet him properly in the short time we have. I will be voting for the campaign that talked about uniting this country, rather than the campaign that spent time dividing it by using divisive and emotionally charged words like "terrorists", "socialist", and "real America". I will be voting on temperament, and when I project both men onto the world stage, calm works much better for me than someone who has to struggle to keep his temper under control. I am voting for change, and McCain was unable to prove to me that he represented that. Lastly, one issue I will be voting on is the fact that Obama voted against lowering payouts from Medicare/Medicaid, while McCain supports those cuts (which could cut our income in half!). And Obama's universal healthcare insuring more people than McCain means that my husband can worry less about not collecting from people because they don't have health insurance. I already voted for Obama/Biden. God Bless America!!!

.

Thanks Jodi C.! I have already cast my vote, too, for McCain/Palin. I admit that I had to stop myself and pray about what is really important in this "History-Making Election" and I've realized that our privelege to be able to choose who we support is really the most important of all. I wasn't looking at it that way until I stopped and humbled myself from looking on the outside and really focused on the inside! I was blind-sided by all of media junk and even some things that were being stated on political sites. It's so easy to get like that during this! I've really had to pray and focus on this one, but I think alot of us have! My husband and I voted for what we mostly stand for in our hearts. I totally respect your vote for Obama/Biden and I commend you on casting your vote for those important reasons. Regardless of who wins, we all need to stand firm in supporting our new President and be in constant prayer for them. They will have the most challenging job - LEADERSHIP of a very worthy country. Standing together after this election is going to be very important in the long-run with all of the issues that are going on! It may seem petty to some now, but I feel it's our duty to our leader, being the President, and we owe it to our awesome country. She was worth standing up for years ago and she still is in every issue we face! I didn't mean to get long-winded on this one, too! God bless your family, Jodi C., and God bless America! Happy voting to all! :)

I would have voted for Mccain but i cannot because of Sara Palin.

I'm so sorry to hear that, Palin has done more in her
time as a Mayor or Gov. for AK then Obama has done in
his time as a Senator. I'm not sure why people are
having such a hard time with this. Does she not speak
as well, or maybe it's that female/male thing that's an issue. It's unforturnate, because Palin has more on hands experience then Obama with managing a budget, people. She even controlled the AK National Guard. People really need to compare the resumes. Her experience with gas/oil would be so help in this time with our energy problems. People never stop amazing me.

Wel said, Cheri!!

I have worked all my life. Since I was 12 detassling corn, canning factories and earned a College degree. I am now retired. I have never, ever earned close to $250,000 a year. My last year of working full time, 2006, I earned $46,000.
My daughter is making more money a year than I could have ever dreamed of but she is better educated. But she still doesn't make close to $250,000 a year. So by both political standards We're poor, really poor.

Tell me I'm below poverty but I should did'nt know it what are those poor people on the streets

Palin lost this one for McCain. Really. I thought it was funny when she talked to Katie Couric - but go on YouTube and listen to her talk to the Canadian she thinks is the French Prime Minister. She is really, really sad. When McCain picked her - he signed his own political death warrant. This woman could have been one heartbeat away from the Presidency - that is just too scary - Might as well blow up the nukes ourselves.

You know what I think is sad and scary. That a man who worked with Bill Ayers trying to teach radical education to our children, and has relationships with other known radicals could be our next president. What's even sadder is that we have people who believe his rederic and will vote for him. You want to
compare resumes, I'll take Sarah Palin's over Obama's
anyday. Just like Joe Biden said, "we will be attacked to test the backbone of Obama, but we're not sure if he'll make the right decisions, so you'll have to support us anyway." Wow! You look at Palin's history, and she has cut taxes, reformed government plus carring out many other responsibilites as the Gov. of AK and that is why John McCain picked her. Obama what did he even do for IL. He promised to lower their taxes too, but oops, he must of forgot.
You must be watching to much MSNBC, switch to Fox News
fair and balanced.

Suppose you are a hiring manager and have four young candidates to choose from
to work in your business. The job involves managing a diverse group of people,
having a basic knowledge of economics, politics, foreign relations, education,
law, and government. You need someone who is a team-player, is decisive, and
has a "get the job done" attitude.

Looking at these four educational resumes*, without knowing their race or their
gender, who would you give an interview to?

#1

Do I want the two most powerful people on earth to have barely survived their
pathetic college experiences (one of whom only even gained entrance because of
what his daddy and grandpa did) while gaining no usable educational value?
Do I want the two most powerful people on earth to have extremely advanced
degrees, which they earned themselves despite coming from poor beginnings, and
one of them having even spent 12 years as an actual college professor?

Not a good arguement! Would you hire a surgeon who's
never operated, a pilot who's never flown a plane?
But I guess we'll elect a president who has never
managed people or money. Experience proves to be
more beneficial then education, and McCain and Palin
both have the experience we need.

Cheri - I am interested to see your facts that support your assumption that "experience proves to be more beneficial than (than, not then, by the way) education". What studies have you seen to prove this? I would really like to read them.

By your argument, you would actually hire a surgeon who did not have the appropriate educational background BEFORE they were allowed to receive their experience, so long as they had experience. Comparing the requirements of the President/VP of the US with a pilot is like comparing apples to oranges.
Moreover - 16 governors have become president, 17 senators have become president. Both are qualifying offices.
Obama has been RUNNING for president only 5 months less than Palin has actually been a governor (of a state with a population less than the city of Detroit).

Cheri - Your argument that experience is such a big deal does not hold up with the facts of history:

Suppose you had to choose between two Presidential candidates, one of whom had spent 20 years in Congress plus had considerable other relevant experience and the other of whom had about half a dozen years in the Illinois state legislature and 2 years in Congress. Which one do you think would make a better President? If you chose #1, congratulations, you picked James Buchanan over Abraham Lincoln. Your pick disagrees with that of most historians, who see Lincoln as the greatest President ever and Buchanan as the second worst ever, better only than Warren "Teapot Dome" Harding. Both served in what was probably the most difficult period in American history, where slavery and secession tore the nation asunder.

I would give the job to the one with the most experience. While I do believe education is a vital part of the resume so are skills and experience. I wouldn't want to invest a lot of money and time in training an applicant. That is speaking from a former small business owner's perspective.

Although based on some history:

The McCain nailed their own coffin when they chose Palin for VP. Period. Too bad, I kinda like McCain, not as a president, but, as a man.

I agree with you Lisa. I am very, very picky about how highly educated my president and VP are too. Though, for me, they ALSO have to be wise and thoughtful - but highly college educated THEY MUST BE FOR ME. Palin does not fit either of those criteria for me, at least not nearly enough to be VP.
I like McCain too, and once upon a time I really liked him for president. But I think he has really done a bad job with his campaign (and this is technically presidential campaign number 3 for him, and all three of them have been really BAD campaigns - the only common denominator there is McCain himself - sign of some leadership problems, I think). But, just so you know, I am pretty sure that Biden graduated really low in his class too (like 5th or 6th to last, or something like that). I think Biden is a few steps up from Palin, but not more than that!!! Whoever wins, PLEASE GOD LET NOTHING HAPPEN TO THE PRESIDENT!!!

If you actually pay attention to the big picture, incomes for"middle class" people has not kept pace with inflation. What I know is this: Reagan started the whole trickle down economics theory which basically said give tax cuts to the wealthy, cut taxes on corporations, and these entities would use those cuts to invest in creating jobs. Well, I think we have seen what happened: THEY KEPT THE MONEY FOR THEMSELVES. These are entities that keep skirting tax laws by making bogus corporations on some island and putting the difference in their pockets. Universities and all higher education should be affordable for all, not the few who lucked out by being born with a silver spoon. I can't go to college realistically. I'd have to work so many hours at various jobs that my studying would suffer. And, no, fast food jobs don't want people who are not illegal. A citizen would expect to be able to live comfortably on their paychecks, or would want a union to back them up. And as for McCain, this is a guy who can't follow orders. His mission was to fly into enemy territory, and if he was found out, to return to base. Instead, as a missile came up on him, he let the missle hit his plane. He was in the Hanoi Hilton for 5 and a half years because he wanted to be a hero. I for one believe that since his bone headed move got him into that mess, that makes him a very narrow minded individual. He is no hero to me, he is a P.O.W., nothing more. Yes, he deserves respect for surviving. And making it back to the U.S. But that does not mean he is more qualified than anybody else to run for President. I don't want a guy who decided to leave his first wife after she waited for him the entire time he was a P.O.W. He saw Cindy across the room at some meeting and started dating her. So, he's a cheater, and not so loyal after all. Keep in mind Cindy McCain is worth upwards of 100,000,000 dollars, together they has several homes, and when asked how many he owned he couldn't answer. You relate to this guy? HE DIDN'T WORK FOR THOSE HOMES. HE DID NOT MAKE THAT FORTUNE. HE MARRIED INTO THAT FORTUNE. Yeah, he really knows how I live everyday. And as for Sarah Palin, she BROKE THE LAW. SHE USED HER INFLUENCE TO FIRE AN OFFICIAL because he wouldn't fire the trooper that was getting a divorce from her sister. Her husband tried to influence people to do things just because his wife is the Governor. This woman is an embarrassment to the Republican Party because of her beliefs. She believes in freedom of Christianity, not freedom of religion. She wanted to ban books in the city public library. She left Wasilla millions in debt. You want this woman involved with the Federal Level? You want one religions principles to be given preference over all others? You would want women to have to resort to unlicensed doctors to have an abortion? You want the Constituition to reflect discrimination? You want gays to have to hide because the Constituition would eventually legalize one form of marriage? Bigotry has no excuse, and no form of it should even be entertained as a serious discussion. Women are not second class citizens. They have their own minds, and they are more than able to make a decision about their own bodies. You(anybody thinking they can be God) have no right to interfere with anybody's private life, and do not have the right to push an agenda using religious principles to harrass, discriminate, destroy, maim, and kill, all because some people seem to think seperation of Church and State is an inconvenience to be ignored. Keep your santimonious attitudes out of my life and keep your ignorant, small minded, innuendo laced half-truths to yourselves. I am so sick of hearing about how small town people are somehow more American than somebody living in a bigger city. I came from a small town, and I experienced harrassment because I never had any money, did not play sports, or otherwise participate with "the right people". If being American means that I fit with a certain stereotype, call education "elite", post comments in a forum without checking my spelling, think learning about other cultures is somehow unpatriotic, community organizing is something someone does behind a desk all day, never get a passport until it's convenient politically, think because I can "see Russia from an island" I have foreign policy experience, if all my experience in the military consisted of being in a prisoner camp, no leadership position to speak of, and think The Bill of Rights is nothing more than a piece of paper, THEN I AM NOT AN AMERICAN, AND I AM UNPATRIOTIC. I believe that everybody has the right to free speech, unemcumbered by censorship. I believe torture is wrong, I believe the media should question all candidates about their positions, and not be subject to harrassment by the police. I believe that we have the right to assemble, peaceably, without "permits". I believe in the right to own a firearm to protect ones home and life. I believe that people captured in wartime are entitled to the same universal rights we would expect if we were captured by the enemy. We have the patriotic duty to question our public servants, because they work for us. We have a right to healthcare, a right to live under a roof. Doctors have no right to refuse to treat someone because they have no money or insurance. No one should have to go bankrupt because a lender could make more commision with an ajustable rate mortgage. The government should have reined in the out of control consumerism that has been propagated by corporations. WE have a right to clean water, clean air, and food without chemicals. I have the right to question any religion that fosters division, hatred, and injustice. WE have the responsibility, that when government turns corrupt, to change that government. When government does not work for the people, by the people, and makes secrecy of functions a way of leading, then the tree of liberty must be fertilized with the blood of Patriots, and replanted. Until that happens, I will vote for the people that don't confuse patritism with the taking away of my civil rights. Confuse security with spying on our everyday habits. If you want to vote for a man who never goes into what he would actually do for your average person, by all means vote for McCain. If you want ignorance and endless occupation, endless spying, and a massive police state, vote McCain. If you want the media to be just like Fox "news", vote McCain. If you want a V.P. who still believes she needs protected from witches, vote McCain/Palin. By all means, vote for a ticket that spent more on some clothes to make the V.P. pick look good, choose the Republican Ticket. Don't be surprized when our country goes down the toilet because everybody gave into their fears, and gave up on hope.

You think Sarah Palin is an embarassment? A women who
has done amazing things for AK in 10 years, and would do amazaing things for the country. She did not leave Wasilla in debt, and she did not ban any books. You really do need to do some research before you write.
She chaired the Interstate Oil & Gas Compact Commission, and was Chair and Ethics Commissioner for the AK Conservation Commission. She reduced taxes
in Wasilla as well as the state of AK,(she did not leave Wasilla in debt, do you really think they would
have voted her as gov. if she did?) reformed and faced the big oil companies, and was in charge of the National Guard. She is someone who has walked the walk. Why do people like you not acknowledge this? Why are you so afraid to admit she has something to offer America? She has more experience then Obama! What has he done? To judge someone regarding the "trooper issue" when we don't have ALL the facts is unfair. It's amazing though that with all the lawyers Obama sent to AK, they couldn't find a thing to hold against her. Yes, she is a Christian, as am I,but her nor I would ever critisize anyoned ones religion or belief. I'm not sure where you dreamed that one from. Obama is the one who is an embaressment! He has walked and worked with Bill Ayers who doesn't derserve to live in the USA. He avoides talking directly to the media, and hides his past relationships. He has NO experience!!!!! in anything, and rides on a free pass from the media. Yes, Cindy McCain has money, but look at what she does with it, she has gone all over the world helping others. What have Obama/Biden done? How much have they given to charities? And he calls the Republicans selfish. Then you have the audacity to
say McCain wanted to be captured and abused by the
Vietnamese and live in those conditions just to say
"I was a POW, vote for me". Wow! You weren't there,
you have no idea what happened. It amazes me how hard hearted and uncompassionate some people are. If your life has been that difficult and made you bitter,
I am sorry. I am one of those "small town" people who
goes to church every Sunday and find great peace and
comfort from that. Do I judge people who live in cities and think I'm any better. NO!!! God loves us
all and we are all created equal in his eyes.

Levetta - Any new developments on the puppy search?

No not yet I can't afford the little designer pups(when I got mine 19yrs ago they were called muts, but thats ok I'll work and save until I can. Maybe one day! :)
BTW I love your photo.
Just remember no matter who wins we are in this together as a country Good or Bad.
I just wish I could have as much faith in your candidate as you do.

Yes, I know EXACTLY how you feel. I was sick over Bush winning in 2000 and 2004 - AND the Republican Congress along with him. I had NO faith in George Bush and was very concerned with the strong conservative slant he brought with him. I know EXACTLY how you feel!! But, we don't know yet who will win. I wish I had as much faith in your candidate too. I used to LOVE him!! I do think he would be a decent president, just not as good as I believe Obama would be. If McCain wins, I will do everything I can to try and invest some faith into him. But, you're right, no matter what we're all in this together as a country. The bottom line is, we'll be just fine!!

Levetta - I'm going to send you a friend request on facebook. If you are open to it, please accept, I would like that.

Would love it. I have grown to respect your views and I hope you are right. My problem with politics is I am a very liberal(social issues) Republican(financial issues). In the beginning I liked Obama(social issues),but in the end I like McCain. If we used higher taxes to balance the budget it wouldn't be so bad, but I still believe punishing hard work and achievement is not the answer. I believe everyone should have the opportuny for a higher education. In Florida we have dual enrollment and a lot of students graduate high school with their first year of college behind them, some with a college degree. Also we offer Bright Futures which rewards good grades (A's and B's) with full scholarships. Every student in high school has this opportunity some work hard and achieve some play around and don't. I do not have a problem with helping people with a higher education, however I see so many more opportunities available now that I never had and I feel that the more you give people the more they feel they are entitled to it. My closing thought is the harder you work for something and get it the more you appreciate it. I have tried to rear my daughter with knowledge that no one owes her a living she has to work for that.

I guess I feel like Obama's policies are like grading on a curve everyone benefits except the one who worked hard and made the A. Would this be called spreading the grade?

I PROMISE you, hard work is not being punished in this country. I want to allay your concerns about that. The legal tax laws prevent that from happening. Jim and I are all for lowering our taxes, but we also know that if you don't also change the tax laws along with that reduction, those making the most will pay the least (and some maybe even none). If you lower our taxes AND we continue to have huge deductions, we could pay less than you!!! Obama's tax plan is not that different from McCain's when you look at it closely - the difference is just who benefits greater. If McCain gets his way, he and Cindy would pay little to no taxes (with their 9 houses, etc.), and the possibility would exist that they could pay the same or less than you. With Obama, you have to make above $603,000.00 in order to have the significant increase. And, again, people in these tax brackets already have many deductions to bring it way down.
I agree with you about hard work and appreciating things more because of it. I think college should be easy to pay for, but tough to get through academically. I think the hard work should be in the academics, not paying for it or being in huge debt for the rest of your life because of it. I love your Florida education options, that is awesome!!!!!
