Sounds like a good arguement for flat tax rate or fair tax either would be better than we have now.

YES, except if we do a flat/fair tax rate, we would then have to seriously modify the tax laws. Otherwise, it seems we would be back in the same boat with the wealthy seriously lowering what they pay through huge deductions, while the middle to lower income tax rates would stay the same. That would mean the middle and lower classes would be disproportionately carrying the tax burden. Otherwise, I like the idea of flat/fair tax rates.

There would be no laws or write offs just everyone paying their fair share.

Sounds good to me!!!! I wonder if a reason they don't do this is because if there is not a NEED for deductions, the rich would be more likely to bank their money, rather than spend it, and retire early? If you think about it, forcing us to put our money into places that bring us tax deductions is forcing us to put our money back into the economy. Still, I don't think the rich can have it both ways, a low tax rate AND lots of deductions.

What's wrong with working for what you get? It seems there is a wave of "I don't have it, I can't afford it but I want it anyway , so give it to me" The people that c/o not having, what have they done to better themselves.I worked my way through college full-time plus at a job and went to school full time paying as I went. What is wrong with instilling a work ethic in children? If you want it you have to work for it. I own a small diner and I might tell you that it is **** hard to find people to work that don't whine 30 min after they get to work . They want to go soon because they want to do somthing with their friends etc...Mccain knows the work it takes to get a job done, he is encouraging and inspiring. He has a great work ethic, character and reason and he will put it to work for the american people. I doubt there are but a few people that know what it takes like he does. We all have our own struggles that consume us. What people need to do is pull themselves up by there own *ucking boot straps and work for what they need and want in their lives instead of expecting handouts.Hand-ups are there if people choose to strive for them. Speaking of Obama, I beleive he is a great speaker...most lawyers are . They are very proficiant in twisting info, spinning it to most advantage their story they are trying to sell. Now with that we all know politicians use this tactic , but I can tell you John Mccain tells you what he thinks and tells you how it is. What more could you ask for - honesty! It is refreshing. Ex: Obama says " you won't pay taxes 250,000 or less. Did anyone NOTICE that in his very expensive infomercial he actually stated 200,000?? Then his running mate stated 150,00?? And Richardson an Obama helper actually stated 120,000?? My question is HOW LOW WILL HE GO?? If Obama can't be consistant , neh I say honest about this simple tid-bit What else is he planning that he just hasn't quite told us about. After Nov 4th it will be too late there is no "lemon law" protecting us from him. Ther is no 30 days to get a return for another choice. Gov. Palin I beleive that as a running mate she is a good pick. Is she PERFECT...no, but I beleive that 1- out of the washington loop (+),2- doesn't take crap from corrupt people in her own party (+) ,3- has worked hard for her people in Alaska (+) just imagine how hard she would work for the AMERICAN people! I beleive if Sarah Palin wasn't attractive- no fault of her own , must be good genes. That if she looked like maybe Madeline Albright people would beleive she has intelligence. There is a bias going on here it is SEXISM from the men and cat-tiness from women. It exists...even though most people don't think it does or don't admit it because it is NOT POLITICALLY CORRECT. Which is another down fall of our society in it's self. No one wants to tell you like it is for fear or maybe they haven't got the stones to tell people the truth not matter how much it might hurt. I for one beleive in "tell it to me straight" Obama just uses his lawyer speak to twist us....good lawyer like the ones who defended OJ... or any gulity as sin defendant ,they weave a story to best fit their plight. John Mcacain- fighter pilot---tells the facts short and to the point. Vote For Mccain! Peace out.

I couldn't have said it better myself!!!

Terry - Several things...First, you should spend a good deal of time visiting factcheck.org It is a non-partisan website that sorts through the truths and lies from each campaign. You will see that the McCain campaign is equally casual with the truth.
- Also, my husband and I worked our a**es off to get through college too. Neither of our parents could afford a cent to help us, and we both attended high price universities. The problem today is not that people are not willing to help themselves through college, it is that it is becoming increasingly impossible to do that. College tuition has climbed, while student loan interest rates have been allowed to go up. It is becoming very difficult for people to afford the student loans (sometimes upwards of $80,000.00 with higher interest rates). Higher educations are in the process of becoming a luxury only for the rich and elite.
As far as taxes. This is something you must understand....My husband and I did not come from money. But, after my husband finished his training our income increased by five times. A few years after that it doubled from that. The first thing we were told by our accountant is to put the money into places that can yield large tax deductions. We are able to afford multiple mortgages, money market accounts, large charitable donations, etc. We were able to bring our 35% tax rate DOWN to 26% just last year through our LEGAL deductions. So, while our income is within the 35% tax rate, we actually only paid a tax rate similar to someone making less than $170,000.00 - who can't afford as many deductions as we can. This is why Warren Buffet, one of the richest men in America, paid less taxes than his secretary. Rich people can afford a lot more deductions than the poor. While my husband and I would welcome a tax decrease for the rich, we are also realistic and see the danger to that being that the rich would then pay low to no taxes at all - if you do not ALSO change the tax laws that allow them to reduce their actual tax bill through their purchased deductions.

Everybody seems upset that Obama spent all that money on his thirty min. ad why? was'nt that money for him to use to help put himself in the White House well then he did what he was suppose to.I like obama/Biden the dont lie as much. Everything that comes out of McCain/Palins mouth is lies.Palin would'nt know the truth if it hit her in the head.and she is a little to much like the good ole boys

Barack Obama is the first presidential candidate that we have ever given money to, and we gave a pretty decent amount. Many people we know are also first time presidential candidate donors to Obama.

I dont think so but I was wondering why she did'nt go to him. If I had a half brother that was in the US I would have gone to him unless the dont know each other very well. What do you think?

Do you believe that Obama didn't know his aunt was here illegally? Just would like to get different takes on ths issue.

Once again Obama is not going to own up to something that may lose him any votes and make him look bad in the public eye. I can not believe anything he says. He hasn't been honest about alot of questionable things that has been brought up throughout this campaign. We will never know the real Obama. And as an American I am having a tough time grasping the thought that there are people out there willing to vote for him when he limits access to his life. This is a man who has deceived the American people several times with his explanations on the negative things that have been brought up about him and surgar coat them to make himself look good. And yes he had knowledge of it. McCain has done some dishonorable things in his life but it is public knowledge. My feelings are if you put yourself in the public eye then your life should be an open book. Be honest. Noone is perfect and to me Obama is trying to portray himself as such.

I don't know. What I do know at this moment is that their campaigns' stance that he has not spoken to her in two years is plausible to me, given that he only saw his father (her half-brother) once, and she lived in Kenya. The suggestion that they were not close, to me, is plausible. I don't necessarily believe it, but it is plausible. However, should there be actual evidence (phone records, etc.) proving the contrary, it really would not surprise me. But, I don't think it matters anyway. It would be a non-criminal law that has been broken (like Palin being found to have violated Alaska state ethics law - which has already been proven by a majority Republican panel). I REALLY don't like our politicians violating ANY law, but until it has been proven that he was close with his aunt, and therefore would clearly have known, it's a non-issue to me. Palin continues to lie to people about the ethics law violation by claiming she was not found to have broken it, yet she was - again, by a majority Republican panel. Point is, lying falls with both sides. If we're going to give a pass to Palin for having violated a non-criminal law and still run for high office (which we have done), then the same should go for Obama (and we don't have any evidence that he did, yet).

Ah...you must be for tazin' little kids... I believe that even though palin was found , quote guilty... wasn't she morally right for firing the guy that wouldn't fire the cop that tazed the kid?? I believe that she did the right thing. Isn't that what we should look at. Some seem to over look that.

What? Morally right for breaking a law??? Interesting? I don't think I've heard anything quite that radical in a long time. Perhaps you have been palling around with people like Bill Ayers who believe their radical and law breaking means justify the end? But, one of the main reasons for the Palin finding was that she allowed her husband to have access to government staff to get the guy fired. Yet, he is not a government employee and should not have had access to government staff, etc. But, interesting that you suggest that for her the end justifies the means. Certainly you would agree then, that by your logic (or lack thereof) Obama is morally right for protecting his aunt from the dangers to her life that exist if she were sent back to a ragingly violent country like Kenya? He has not even been found guilty of knowing anything about it anyway.

I could care less about Obama's Aunt. What scares
me to death is relationships with Ayers, Wright, and
others. Raising money to try to teach radical ideas to our children. What is happening to our country
when everyone just ignores these things and the media
gives him a pass on EVERYTHING!

But, Cheri, Obama did not get a pass on these things. They have been scrutinized in the media ad nauseam. The RNC has spent thousands of dollars investigating these relationships trying to find evidence and proof to bring him down because of it. The only thing anybody has been able to find, is that there is nothing there. If anybody has received a pass from the media about palling around with criminal, terrorist, America haters it's the McCain/Palin campaign. See my posting below, and please look this stuff up for yourself.

McCain
1. McCain's campaign and advisers are allied with and/or supporting militants who have committed acts that any reasonable observer would define as TERRORISM. On July 20, while campaigning for McCain in Miami and just prior to speaking at a McCain event, Sen. Joe Lieberman met with the wife of convicted serial bomber Eduardo Arocena and promised to pursue a presidential pardon on his behalf. Arocena is the founder of the notorious Cuban exile militant group Omega 7, renowned for a string of BOMBINGS from 1975 to 1983. These men are not afraid to KILL AMERICAN CIVILIANS on US soil in the furtherance of their cause. John McCain is not afraid to associate with them, even going so far as to have cut Spanish-language radio ads for release in South Florida. John McCain has promised that, if elected, he will release Eduardo Arocena. In 1983, Arocena was arrested and charged with 42 counts pertaining to conspiracy, explosives, firearms, and destruction of foreign government property within the United States. Arocena was convicted of the 1980 MURDER of a Cuban diplomat in Manhattan. He is currently serving a life sentence in federal prison in Indiana.
His targets included:
*
Madison Square Garden (he blew up an adjacent store);
JFK airport (Arocena's group planted a suitcase bomb intended for a TWA flight to Los Angeles—in protest of the airline's flights to Cuba. The plane would have exploded if not for the fact that the bomb went off on the tarmac prior to being loaded);
*
Avery Fisher Hall at Lincoln Center (causing damage to three levels of the theater and halting the performance of a music group from Cuba);
*
the ticket office of the Soviet airline Aeroflot;
*
and a church.
2. In 1998 G. Gordon Liddy hosted a campaign fundraiser for McCain and McCain has accepted campaign donations from Liddy over the last decade, most recently in February 2008. Liddy has acknowledged preparing to kill someone during the Ellsberg break-in "if necessary"; plotting to murder journalist Jack Anderson; plotting with a "gangland figure" to murder Howard Hunt to stop him from cooperating with investigators; plotting to firebomb the Brookings Institution; and plotting to kidnap "leftist guerillas" at the 1972 Republican National Convention -- a plan he outlined to the Nixon administration using terminology borrowed from the Nazis.
3. John McCain was a close personal friend of Charles Keating, McCain and his family vacationed at Keating's Bahamas mansion, Cindy McCain had investments with Keating. Charles Keating is a convicted felon.
4. McCain announced he was choosing Lincoln Diaz-Balart, a Republican congressman from Miami, as his senior adviser and spokesman on Latin America. Rep. Diaz-Balart is a fierce hard-liner on Cuba, advocating, at various times, a blockade of the island, even military action if needed, to unseat Fidel Castro (his former uncle, once married to Diaz-Balart's aunt). He, too, has been a supporter of certain kinds of TERRORISTS who have struck on AMERICAN SOIL. Since 2000, Diaz-Balart and his colleague Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen have lobbied for and helped win the release of several convicted exile terrorists from U.S. prisons. Among the most notorious were Omega 7 members Jose Dionisio Suarez Esquivel and Virgilio Paz Romero, both convicted for their roles in the 1976 assassination of Chilean diplomat Orlando Letelier and his American colleague Ronni Moffitt with a car bomb in Washington, D.C.
5. Beginning in 1981, Richard Quinn became the Executive Editor in Chief of the racist Southern Partisan Quarterly Review and as was still listed as the owner of the magazine as recently as 2005. Like McCain did originally, Quinn opposed the Martin Luther King holiday, writing it "should have been rejected because its purpose is vitriolic and profane." In 2000, People For American Way called on McCain to fire Quinn, listing his disparaging of Nelson Mandela as a "terrorist," his promotion of David Duke ("What better way to reject politics as usual than to elect a maverick like David Duke?") and his selling of t-shirts praising Abraham Lincoln's assassination. McCain wouldn't fire him. He rejected the guilt-by-association charge, defending the man and disavowing the publication. The Washington Post described Quinn as the "longtime adviser [who] directed the senator to a crucial victory in the Palmetto State." Politico reported that McCain paid Quinn's firms $184,000. An article that was posted on McCain's website in 2008 — that is no longer available — described Quinn as "a senior political consultant to the McCain campaign."
6. McCain spent his 70th birthday aboard Rafaello Follieri's yacht in August 2006. Follieri, who posed as Vatican chief financial officer in order to win friends and investments, pleaded guilty in a Manhattan district court to conspiracy to commit wire fraud, eight counts of wire fraud and five counts of money laundering. As part of the plea, Follieri admitted to misappropriating at least $2.4 million of investor money and redirecting it to foreign personal bank accounts that were disguised as business accounts.
7. Rick Renzi, Arizona Congressman 2002-2008, is currently under indictment for conspiracy, wire fraud, money laundering, concealment of money laundering, transactions with criminally derived funds, extortion, insurance fraud and criminal forfeiture. Until February 2008, Renzi was co-chair of McCain's Arizona 2008 presidential campaign, member of McCain's 2008 National Leadership Team, and a personal friend. In October 2006, McCain stated, "Rick has represented the first district of Arizona with tenacity, honesty and integrity beyond reproach."
8. McCain's campaign manager served as president of a lobbying association that fought to protect Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae from the sort of regulation that McCain is now proposing.
9. Aquiles Suarez, listed as an economic adviser to the McCain campaign, in a July 2007 McCain press release, was formerly the director of government and industry relations for Fannie Mae. The Senate Lobbying Database says Suarez oversaw the lending giant's $47,510,000 lobbying campaign from 2003 to 2006.
10. McCain's opposition to a 1994 law that made it a federal crime to BOMB or blockade abortion clinics or to ATTACK abortion doctors. McCain's vote against the Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances Act put him in league with the Senate's most radical anti-abortion advocates, who split with more than two dozen anti-abortion senators who voted to crack down on clinic BOMBERS as a matter of preserving law & order.
11. McCain's several year membership on the board of the US Council for World Freedom, which The Associated Press describes as "part of an international organization linked to former Nazi collaborators and ultra-right-wing DEATH squads in Central America."
12. McCain spent more than a year actively seeking John Hagee's endorsement. In February 2008, McCain stated, "I'm very honored by Pastor John Hagee's endorsement today." Only after public outcry did McCain repudiate Hagee.
13. McCain actively sought Rod Parsley's support to get evangelical votes. In February 2008, McCain stated, "I'm truly honored today to have one of one of the truly great leaders in America, a moral compass, a spiritual guide — Pastor Rod Parsley." View Video. Again, after public outrage over Parsley, McCain was forced to repudiate him.
14. John McCain tried to circumvent campaign-finance rules that he helped create. Last year, when Mr McCain's campaign appeared moribund, the senator applied to join the presidential public financing system. Under this programme Mr McCain agreed to certain spending limits and, in turn, received access to federal matching money. (Sidenote: It's a terrible system that is basically designed to keep losers in the race.)"
15. Judicial Watch, the public interest group that investigates and prosecutes government corruption, announced that it filed a formal complaint, dated April 22, 2008, with the Federal Election Commission (FEC) related to a fundraising luncheon held at London's Spencer House to benefit Senator John McCain's presidential campaign. The venue for the event was apparently donated to the campaign by foreign nationals, in violation of federal campaign finance laws.
16. The FEC sent a letter to Sen. John McCain's campaign treasurer Sept. 30 demanding the candidate turn over more information about "contributions that appear to exceed the limits." The letter is accompanied by a nine-page list showing scores of overages from McCain's August campaign finance report, including nearly $13,000 from Texas rancher Ray R. Barrett Jr.; $9,200 from an Iraqi security consultant, H. Carter Andress; and $5,000 from Joseph F. Davolio, an executive at a major national liquor, beer and wine distributor.
17. See factcheck.org for campaign misrepresentations and downright lies (The Whoppers of 20008 is the best).
Palin
1. Her husband is a past member of the Alaska Independence Party, and she has addressed the group on several occasions. The party's goal is Alaska's secession from the United States and its founder has said "the fires of hell are frozen glaciers compared to my HATRED for the American government." The group, founded in 1973 by Joe Vogler, Vogler stated, "I'm an Alaskan, not an American. I've got no use for America or her damned institutions." "Keep up the good work," Sarah Palin told members of the Alaskan Independence Party in a videotaped speech to their 2008 convention six months ago in Fairbanks. She wished the party luck on what she called its "inspiring convention."
2. Steve Branchflower’s report on Troopergate contains four findings. The first concludes that Palin violated the state’s executive branch ethics act, which says that “each public officer holds office as a public trust, and any effort to benefit a personal or financial interest through official action is a violation of that trust.”

One more from factcheck.org
"..nothing Obama said about Ayers has been shown to be untrue. All available evidence indicates the two know each other but are not close. They met in 1995, when Obama was asked to head the board of a school reform group, the Chicago Annenberg Challenge, that Ayers had helped start. The organization, formed to dispense grants in an effort to improve the city's schools, was hardly radical; its board included a number of well-regarded Chicago establishment types. Also, Obama and Ayers overlapped for two years on the board of another foundation, and Ayers hosted a coffee in his home when Obama was running for the Illinois state Legislature.

Ayers is unrepentant about his past, and Obama doesn't excuse him, calling his acts as a Weatherman "despicable." But in Chicago, Ayers isn't seen as all that controversial. He's now a professor of education and was named a Chicago Citizen of the Year in 1997 for his work on school reform. "

From factcheck.org
"McCain ad turns the tables by saying the Republican candidate tried in vain to "rein in" Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, the institutions whose underwriting of too many risky home mortgages contributed to the meltdown. Obama was "notably silent," the ad says, and "Democrats blocked the reforms." Actually, Republicans never brought the bill up for consideration on the floor; they controlled the Senate at the time. And besides, McCain signed on to the 2005 bill too late for it to have made any difference."

one word c-span. You can see who says what live. Not their own recollection of events. Mccain is true to his word. check his record out. If Obama would manage to show up ,a great deal of the time he was late. All he would do was raise his hand "present". Or when he did vote Always along demo. lines. Never voted against them. Look at his record. Not too impressive.

Okay, McCain's record, factcheck.org:
" According to Congressional Quarterly's Voting Studies, in 2007 McCain voted in line with the president's position 95 percent of the time – the highest percentage rate for McCain since Bush took office – and voted in line with his party 90 percent of the time." First he spent years as a "maverick" voting against his party, then he voted with his party 90% of the time - stable, dependable, trustworthy??

From factcheck.org
"McCain has continued to broadcast, in speeches and ads, his most harped-upon deception of the campaign, telling voters that Obama favored higher taxes on "families making over $42,000 a year." As we've said ad nauseam, Obama's plan would raise taxes only on individuals making more than $200,000 a year, or couples or families making more than $250,000."

From factcheck.org
"McCain began denigrating Obama's proposed refundable tax credits as "welfare." But refundable tax credits are a key feature of McCain's own health care plan, except that he calls them "reform." In an early version of Obama's plan, only a tiny portion of his tax credits would have gone to anyone who didn't work, and advisers quickly announced that they had added a work requirement even for that one (a tax credit to benefit homeowners who don't itemize deductions)."

Yes, Liam I read this too. It is in "Whoppers of 2008 The Sequel", I believe. There are lies from the Obama side in there too though.

Thank you Jodi C. for being fair.

Sure. Just pointing out a fact. Sadly, all four candidates lie, A LOT. It's practically a full-time job trying to uncover the truths.

OBAMA SHOULD NOT WINN THIS ELECTION OBAMA KEEPS PROMISING DOES HE THINK THAT ONLY PROMISIS ARE WHAT THIS ELECTION ABOUT WELL IT IS NOT IT LOOKS TO ME THAT HE IS RUNNING FOR A CLASS PRASIDENT I DO NOT THINK THAT HE IS QUALLIFIDE AS A PRESIDENT AFTER ALL HE IS FRIENDS WITH TERRISTS WICH IS NOT SOMTHING I WOULD WHANT IN A PRESIDENT HE IS STILL YOUNG AND HAS ALOT TO LEARN IM ALL FOR VETRANS MY UNCLE IS ONE AND THAT IS ONE GOOD THING ABOUT McCAIN i would have rather him than obama

To Sallie

Your memory is short they let a murderer out and he became president of his country. Obama and his wife who it seems is the power behind the throne have no idea of reality on running America or any other country,look like they are running for class president not the country, McCain has lived a life Obama is a child who has no idea. Has anyone told Obama that the world is in crisis or does he think promising everything to everyone will fool all the people all the time, for someone who is so sure that he is the next president why spend a fortune that not many people would ever have in their lifetime, on advertising himself for 1/2 an hour on how many channels, doesn't show a person who is in control of much, but desperate maybe.

Levetta - You inspired me....I JUST noticed that you have a cute picture of you with your dog on your profile, so I posted one too (no dog).
