Yes I lost my puppy last January 5th she was 18yrs old.
Oh my gosh, I am soooo sorry to hear that!!!! I grew up with dogs, and I have one now too. I am a HUGE dog lover, so I know how you feel. But, gosh, 18 years is great (though I KNOW, it's still not enough when you love them). Any chance you're going to get another one?
Yes I am looking for the right one now, I guess I'll know it in my heart when it's right.
No one has an excuse to vote for McCain-Palin - unless he owns a multi-million dollar corporation and/or hates America! Or, unless he believes in the politics of ignorance, prejudice, hate, and fear!
Only excuse I have is a free thinking mind. I will not let the media choose my President for me.
I resent the implication that I am incapable of thinking or choosing for myself. Nothing could be further from the truth! This bias against the media is a neo-conservative construct in which only a few people really believe.
And I resent the implication that I hate my country or that I believe in politics of ignorance, prejudice, hate and fear. As far as the media bias that is evident and there is a new poll and study that backs it up I will be glad to find out more if you would like.
From politico.com 10/28/08 article "Why McCain is Getting Hosed in the Press". Regarding media bias.
- "As it happens, McCain’s campaign is going quite poorly and Obama’s is going well. Imposing artificial balance on this reality would be a bias of its own."
what are you talking about? Obama is a racist, a liar, alligns himself with a terrorist, and has a socialist agenda. He also has a great Reverend who hates America.
Read this before the election to see who your candidate really is: http://www.rollingstone.c om/news/coverst...
there is finanacial aid for low income students that want to attend college. Example, For a family of four, with one in college, making 45,000 a year and a $250,000 home, they would pay $2,200 a year. It is called a pell grant. Another reason to vote McCain is the estate tax. Why would people want to work hard to make a better life for their families only to have to fork over a huge portion of their estate to the government. Thanks for posting the information Ann,
According to non-partisan factcheck.org
- Estate Tax. The claim that Obama proposes to "restore the inheritance tax" is also false, as are the claims that McCain would impose zero tax and that Bush "repealed" it. McCain and Obama BOTH would retain a reduced version of the estate tax, as it is correctly called, though McCain would reduce it by more.
- For me, personally, I would prefer removing all estate and inheritance taxes, but neither candidate is proposing that. But, honestly, even if one were, it would not be a huge factor in my vote.
Barbara - Pell Grants are great - I received Pell Grants while I was working on my first bachelor degree. But, several things are missing in the above statement. First, the maximum Pell Grant award for the 2008-09 award year (July 1, 2008 to June 30, 2009) is $4,731. But juxtapose that with how expensive college has become.
- Average Cost For Public College - $5,000 per year
- Average Cost For Private College - $22,000 per year
- Average Cost Of Textbooks - $300-400 per quarter or SEMESTER
- Average Cost Of Housing - around $7,000 per year
Most of the cheaper, public colleges are the community colleges that do not even include degree programs above an Associate Degree. The public universities, which do offer bachelor and post-graduate programs, are considerably higher in cost than $5,000.00 (nearly DOUBLE or more).
AND, that's not the only problem. It has now become possible for student loans to be sold to private lenders, who can then charge higher interest rates if they want to.
AND, Pell Grants can only be received for up to the first bachelor degree, any college after that is not Pell Grant awardable.
Also, while it's great that there are such things as Pell Grants, it excludes 55% of Americans who do not qualify, many of whom need a great deal of help paying for college.
Vote foe McCain/Palin!!
Y'all go right ahead and vote Obama in and it won't matter one bit about taxes and or insurance costs, because we'll be worrying about fighting off terrorists right here on our own soil instead of over there on their's. Mark my words, I don't see anyone mentioning that here on this site! He wants to cut the defense budget - that's the budget that defends our Country!!!
I'd personally be much more comfortable with a Vice President learning as she goes, than a President learning as he goes! Obama is a dangerous choice for President of Our United States.
I totally agree with you and have said the very same things. Sarah has more military experience that Obama. Shes in charge of the Alaska National Guard so she knows more about the military then Obama.
I agree with you that should be a major concern. I have always said of every President both parties that I don't believe anyone who has not fought for this country should have the right to send our children to fight. I believe John McCain would think hard about doing it because he has been there and would only send them if he had to.
Levetta - Given that argument....I wonder about how you felt about Kerry v Bush in the last election?
Like I said I don't believe anyone who has not fought for this country should have that right.
Jodi C. In responce to Inheritance tax you said "I don't know that much about it, I have never received an inheritance. But my gut would question taxing inheritance or estates. The money was obviously already taxed when it was earned, so taxing it AGAIN when it's passed on doesn't sound right to me. But most fortunes these days are earned, rather than inherited, and rarely survive past the second generation anyway."
Well maybe you sould research it since you seem to be good at it. Obama wants to reinstate the inheritance tax which means some people will have to sell their family farms to pay it. You are right taxes are already paid on that money. Also the estate has to pay the inheritance tax and the recipient of the inheritance has to pay income tax on it also. Also, Check out Social Security how it was originally set up and see who has made all of the changes to it and got it in the situation it is in now. Hint: It was not the Republicans. I am interested in what you find out. Please Post your results.
Levetta - It is quite ridiculous to assume that just because I wouldn't agree with Obama's stance on inheritance tax should be WHY I shouldn't vote for him. I do not expect to agree on everything. If you expect to agree 100% with McCain, perhaps you are not capable of having an independent mind of your own? I am taking my kids trick-or-treating so I don't have time to be on here any longer right now. But I am sure I can get back with you later.
Who said I agree with everything McCain says or does trust me I am quite capable of having a mind of my own. I am voting for the man I think will be best for my country.
Levetta - You're TOTALLY right, I was being unreasonable. So sorry!!!
Levetta, you asked Jodi but I'll respond with what I found. This is from factcheck.org regarding the estate or inheritance tax. Hope this answers your questions:
Estate Tax. The claim that Obama proposes to "restore the inheritance tax" is also false, as are the claims that McCain would impose zero tax and that Bush "repealed" it. McCain and Obama both would retain a reduced version of the estate tax, as it is correctly called, though McCain would reduce it by more.
The tax now falls only on estates valued at more than $2 million (effectively $4 million for couples able to set up the required legal and financial arrangements). It reaches a maximum rate of 45 percent on amounts more than that. It was not repealed, but it is set to expire temporarily in 2010, then return in 2011, when it would apply to estates valued at more than $1 million ($2 million for couples), with the maximum rate rising to 55 percent.
Obama has proposed to apply the tax only to estates valued at more than $3.5 million ($7 million for couples), holding the maximum rate at 45 percent. McCain would apply it to estates worth more than $5 million ($10 million for couples), with a maximum rate of 15 percent.
Thanks Ann!
Do you think this is fair to tax an estate that has already paid taxes? What about the income tax that the recipient has to pay? Te reason I am asking and trying to get people to think about this issue is because as my granny always use to say "We are land rich and cash poor" and I have seen the effects of the inheritance tax on family farms we were forced to sell a portion of our family farm to pay the taxes. Not to mention the capital gains and real estate taxes we had to pay for the increase in value in the land. Wonder if we will get a refund since land value has obviously went down now.
Levetta - AGAIN, I do not agree with re-taxing the property or the money. I agree with you.
Jodi C. I am not trying to argue with you just trying to get your take on Social Security and Inheritance Tax. You and Ann S. both keep posting information I just thought you might be interested in looking these things up. Also I'm curious about your veiws on gay rights and gay marriage.
Levetta - YES, you are so right, I was being totally unreasonable!!! So sorry!!!!
What do I think about Social Security? I think it's a good thing as long as it can do what's it's supposed to do. I think the Dems should not have allowed it to be taxed, or put into the general tax fund. And, I am concerned about governments borrowing against it (Reps included). But, you should know....I am not a Democrat. I am not a person who is going to support ANYONE, or ANYTHING, just because they belong to a particular party. That's why I am an Independent voter.
Time.com Time Magazine - "Seven years ago, as Tom Brokaw pointed out, McCain himself was sounding redistributionist, complaining about President Bush's tax cuts. Campaigning against Bush in 2000, he said... "when you ... reach a certain level of comfort, there's nothing wrong with paying somewhat more." Obama has said no more than this, except to set the "level of comfort" at $250,000, which is pretty comfortable."
- I saw the video of McCain saying that - It was at Michigan State University to a student, and it was on Hardball with Chris Matthews.
