Levetta, In response to your posting below on the American dream:

You answered the question yourself...YOU said "I didn't go to school thinking I would be rich after I graduated I went to school for knowledge in the field I chose". Either you go to college to gain knowledge and do what you love, or you go to college to be rich...BOTH are incentives for success!!! On the one hand you say money is not the reason you went to college, and imply it is not something you need to feel successful. On the other hand, you imply that MONEY is the incentive for success. It is a big contradiction. If, as you say, "not everyone chooses a field to become rich they choose fields they love and enjoy", then WHERE is the loss of incentive to be successful by asking the rich to pay a little more in taxes?
Here's the thing: I am in the highest tax bracket and I support giving more to the system. It is YOU who would benefit from that kind of system. YOU would save money by paying less in taxes and would be better able to thrive and further better yourself and your children. YOU would have greater access to healthcare benefits, education opportunities, community services, etc. I ALREADY have access to all that!! I don't need more. What I NEED is for others to be able to thrive, because when they don't, it effects me directly. It effects ALL OF US when people can't get health insurance because we all pay MORE when they get sick but can't pay for it. WE ALL pay MORE for people who end up not being able to make it because they haven't been properly educated. We ALL pay MORE in the long run when people are imprisoned because of their lack of education and the lack of community services they needed to get through childhood. We ALL pay MORE when crime is high because people can't thrive within the system.
Levetta - The American dream is not just about being rich...It is about being able to THRIVE. It is about being able to keep a job and feed your family, and provide the basic needs for that family. The American dream is about being able to send our kids to college, so they can be even more successful as each generation progresses. THESE are the kinds of things that brought people here from other countries. People came here for the freedom to pursue their goals and fulfill their dreams through hard work. But if a society is set-up to make that nearly impossible for anybody except those who are already rich, then the American dream is lost.

Jodi C., you said "Here's the thing: I am in the highest tax bracket and I support giving more to the system." and you should if that is what you want to do by donations or setting up scholarships, but you should not be forced to by the government. As far as incentives I was speaking for myself of going to school for knowledge, but if you reread my post I also said I look forward to success after I gain experience. I have a 17 yr old daughter who I plan to send to school. I do not believe it is your responsibility or anyone elses to do that. I am trying to teach my daughter to stand on her own two feet and not depend on handouts. So what if she has to get a job and help out, what bad lesson can that be teaching her? If I have to do without a little bit in order to provide her with an education, then so be it that is my responsibility (in my opinion) as a parent. It is not everyones responsibility to raise my child and provide for her they did not choose to have her I did.

Levetta - Let me preface this by saying that I might be interested in looking closely at a flat tax rate, or the fair tax rate. Under a flat tax, the rich do pay more than the poor. A wealthy taxpayer with 100 times more tax able income than his neighbor will pay 100 times more in taxes, for example. But I need to learn more about both of them.
But, you did not say that you "look forward to success after you gain experience". But, okay let's say you do. Do you anticipate that experience will put you into the above $603,000.00? Because under Obama plan, even if you make $603,000.00, your tax only increases marginally (less than $100.00). But in your current tax bracket you save $892.00. Under McCain....in your current tax bracket you save $113.00. (money.cnn.com). Under McCain, those in the 60-80 percentile (those earning between $37,595 and $66,354), the average tax cut equates to very little. For wager earners, including families with children, in the $18,981 and $37,595 tax bracket, less than half will see ANY benefit from McCain's tax cuts (but, half will).

The current set-up benefits the super rich and the corporations. The trickle down idea hasn't worked. WHY? Because - just because those corporations, for example, benefit significantly does NOT mean they have to recirculate their money into America. They CAN take that savings and put it into huge CEO salaries. They are NOT required to keep jobs in America - so, they CAN think great, we pay less taxes AND we find cheap labor in other countries and we've got it made. If you want the trickle down idea to work for everyone, you have to have massive regulation within the corporations. That is so UN-REPUBLICAN, and the super rich will not stand for it. They are ALREADY finding that the money given from the $700 billion dollar bailout is NOT being spent by corporations in the way the government meant it to, and will not benefit taxpayers. WHY? Because they gave the money to the corporations without specifics as to how it was to be spent - they just gave them the money expecting that's what they would do.

Currently, the super-super rich (those earning over $10 million) benefit so much they now pay the SAME tax rate as those earning between $200,000 and $500,0000. Don't you remember Warren Buffet saying how ridiculous he thought it was that he paid LESS taxes than his secretary? Having said all of this, there is widespread consensus in the US that the current tax system is a complicated failure that hinders the nation’s growth while allowing the politically well-connected to manipulate the system to get special breaks that are not available to average workers and businesses.
I commend your idea that hard work is what it's all about. I agree!! I am not talking about handouts (giving people money for doing nothing). I am talking about having a system that means EVERYONE'S hard work can pay-off, not just the rich and super-rich. It seems, the poor can work their butts off and never get any better-off. They can work their butts off, but the access the rich enjoy is becoming even less "accessible" to them - like college.

You are obviously a well educated lady and very knowledgeable on taxes, with that said, I am sure you know that with my income I received a refund each year which makes my tax rate 0% in my book. I also would be in favor of a flat rate or fair tax plan. At least everyone including me would be paying our fair share. Just curious what do you think of the inheritance tax?

Just curious what is your opinions on inheritance tax?
I would be in favor of flat tax or fair tax, also. By the way with your knowledge of taxes you should know I get a refund each year so the way I figure it is my tax rate is 0%.

Now I have another question for all of you Is it ok for people to hang a likeness of Sarah Palin from their house?

Absolutely not, no more than it is alright to hang Obama in effigy as
was done last week.

We've all been stating how we feel about the candidates. It's been very interesting, fun, and we've all learned information and even rewinded back to our old history classes! We've all prob. gotten a little frustrated by trying to get our message across, but that's all part of it when it's "Election Time"! I just wanted to time-out and say that regardless of who each of you are supporting, I hope that God blesses all you and your families. When it comes down to it, we're all just one big union wanting what is best for our precious home - America. So, to all of my American neighbors out there , God bless you and Happy Voting! :)

Amen sister!!!!!!

Amy. Learn brevity. Obama/Biden is the far better choice given the rape of the past 8 years. McCain is NO different than Bush. Same party, same economic policy. Some folks never learn and 60.1 million numbskulls voted for Bush in 2004.

I'm sorry Galois S. We're still supporting McCain/Palin.

BTW, Galois S., as I should've mentioned above, I didn't mean to post such a lengthy statement about McCain's health care plan and negativity against Obama. As a McCain supporter, I wanted to see what others ( including Obama supporters ) thought about it so that I, along with other McCain supporters, could think about it, as well. I didn't mean to be offensive here. That wasn't my motive. I admit, I've posted some rude things to others on here and after praying about it, I've realized that's not what we need to be doing. Actually, I'm just searching for feedback from others as I plan to cast my vote next week like the rest of you. I thought it would be interesting to check out, as well. We can learn from the feedback of others on these issues when it isn't centered on all of the junk! Happy voting and God bless! :)

Amy, just so you know, and this may not seem very apparent in our posting exchanges...but even though we don't agree, I have grown to really like you. You seem very sweet and definitely filled with love and hope. I just like to challenge your reasons behind your vote, but not your vote in general. I totally respect your vote for McCain/Palin.

Thanks Jodi C.! I've grown to like you, too, and I respect your vote for Obama. Also, I highly respect your opinions and have been really thinking about what you say and recommend. As I've been praying and trying to take a step back, I've tried to look at the bigger picture - America as a whole, regardless of Democratic, Republic, Independent....we're all one when it comes down to it. We're all wanting the same thing and that's what's best for our piece of land, being America, we all share here! I have to give it to you, Jodi C., you've challenged me well. That's ok - we all need to be, truth be told! Regardless of who wins, I have faith that America will survive! May God bless you and your family, Jodi C. :) P.S. - I commented back to your posting below, too. :)

Amy - P.S. This time last year, I liked both candidates and if you had said between the two who would I vote for, it would have been John McCain. But as things have played out, I have changed my mind.

God bless you and your family too, Amy S.:) You're very sweet! It is always a little scary when we get a new president (scary for everyone I would imagine). It rattles our inner sense of security. If McCain wins, Obama supporters will be a little more scared, and if Obama wins, McCain supporters will be a little more scared. But, you're right, the bottom line is, we will all get through it and America will survive. I am a very idealistic person and my hope is always that we will all step lightly and accept one another regardless of race, gender, religion, and definitely political affiliation (by the way, if you didn't already know, I may sound like a Democrat here, but I'm a registered Independent). I commend your candor, and I can tell that your faith is a big part of who you are. I am impressed by the fact that your faith is what seems to have brought you to this place of peace and love for others, regardless of their vote, race, religion, or gender, etc. God bless you and your family Amy S.!!!!

RE-POSTING THIS INFO!**********Barack Obama and Joe Biden have consistently lied to Americans about John McCain's plan. Their claims have failed every fact check from CBS to the Washington Post. John McCain is not going to raise taxes on middle class families. Barack Obama and Joe Biden are the only ones in this race that plan to raise taxes. Their recent attacks have become increasingly misleading. Read the fact sheet below or click here to learn the truth about the McCain-Palin Health Care Plan.
Sincerely,
Doug Holtz-Eakin
Senior Policy Advisor
McCain-Palin 2008
The Truth about the McCain-Palin Health Care Plan
Barack Obama And Joe Biden Have Consistently Lied To Americans About John McCain's Plan. Their claims have failed every fact-check - from CBS to the Washington Post. John McCain is not going to raise taxes on middle class families. Barack Obama and Joe Biden are the only ones in this race that plan to raise taxes.
OBAMA FICTION
John McCain Will Tax Health Care Benefits For The First Time And Will Be the Largest Middle Class Tax Increase In History.
THE FACTS
This Obama charge is a blatant mischaracterization of the McCain Health Plan. It only focuses on the fact that the value of the employer provided insurance will now show up as additional income for the employees - what he fails to mention - is that John McCain's generous refundable tax credit ($5,000 for families and $2,500 for individuals) will not only shield millions of families from a tax increase but will actually give them MORE dollars to invest in their health care needs.
The McCain Plan DOES NOT tax:
Premiums paid by families and individuals
Employers for providing health care coverage
Medical expenses like the cost of a procedure or medication
Insurance claims
Approach Supported By Obama's Own Advisor: This is an approach supported by Barack Obama's own Senior Economic Advisor Jason Furman who wrote that "we could scrap the current deduction altogether and replace it with progressive tax credits that, together with other changes, would ensure that every American has affordable health insurance."
Better Than "Members of Congress": Under the McCain Plan, your employer can provide you with health insurance as good as a "Member of Congress" (approximately $12,000), and you would pay no more in taxes - regardless of your tax bracket. In fact, you would have additional money left over from the McCain tax credit to put in a health savings account.
Where Is The Middle-Class "Tax Increase"? If you or your family is in the 28% bracket, with an income of $180,000, you could receive employer provided health insurance even better than a Member of Congress, with a cost of almost $18,000, with no increase in taxes. Even the liberal leaning Tax Policy Center, agrees that the McCain proposals will result in a "net tax benefit" of more than $1,200 for an average tax payer. A recent Lewin Group study estimated savings of more than $1,400 per American family - almost three times the savings as under the Obama plan.
OBAMA FICTION
The McCain Plan Will Reduce Medicare Spending By Billions By "Cutting Benefits, Eligibility or Both."
THE FACTS
John McCain believes that we can achieve savings in Medicare without reducing benefits or eligibility. He has proposed common-sense reforms that will not only put Medicare on a path of financial stability but ensure access to quality care for millions of Americans. Some of the policies proposed by the McCain plan include:
Promote payment reform that allows us to move away from the current fragmented and volume-based service to a system which rewards coordinated and quality focused care.
Eliminate Medicare fraud and abuse to ensure that nearly $60 billion a year, almost 10 percent of total Medicare spending, that goes to line the pocket of criminals instead of providing quality care for seniors.
Ensure that drug premiums for the wealthiest Americans are not being subsidized by the middle class.
Promote a new generation of treatment models that better manage chronic care conditions while rewarding prevention and wellness.
Greater use of Health IT and medical homes to promote greater co-ordination of care.
Reduce drug costs by allowing greater use of generics (including bio-generics).
The Obama Spin: If some of the proposals above sound familiar to Senator Obama's proposals including - better managing chronic care diseases, greater use of health IT, promoting prevention and greater use of generic drugs - because they are. Only the liberal media and the Obama campaign would characterize similar proposals as "savings" in the their plan and "cutting benefits, eligibility or both" in the McCain plan.
OBAMA FICTION
John McCain Will Tax Health Care Benefits For The First Time And Send The Money Straight To The Insurance Companies.
THE FACTS
Another desperate attack by the Obama campaign. Here is what they purposefully fail to mention - the credit goes to the insurance company that the American family chooses to get coverage from, anywhere in the nation. The power of choice lies with the family - not government bureaucrats or insurance companies.
Putting Families In Charge: Under the McCain Plan American families will not only decide where the tax credit should be directed for their coverage needs but any additional money left over after purchasing coverage will be controlled by the family in a portable health savings account. Ridiculing this line of strange attack, The Associated Press stated, "Of course it would, because it's meant to pay for insurance. That's like saying money for a car loan will go straight to the car dealer."
Obama Criticizing His Own Approach: Most importantly, Senator Obama is criticizing an approach that is used by his own HOPE credits - where tax payer money simply goes from the federal government to colleges.
OBAMA FICTION
Americans With Pre-Existing Condition Under The McCain Plan Will Not Find Coverage.
THE FACTS
John McCain believes that no American should be denied access to quality and affordable coverage simply because of a pre-existing condition. As President, John McCain will work with governors to develop a best practice model that states can follow - a Guaranteed Access Plan or GAP - that would reflect the best experience of the states to ensure these patients have access to health coverage. There would be reasonable limits on premiums, and assistance would be available for Americans below a certain income level.
OBAMA FICTION
The McCain Health Plan Will Damage Employer Provided Insurance For Millions of Americans.

THE FACTS
The McCain health plan builds on the employer-based system. Employers will have the same incentive to provide health insurance as they do today since they will continue to deduct the cost of health insurance they provide to employees.

Millions With Employer Coverage Will Do Better Under The McCain Plan: Millions of American families with employer sponsored coverage in all tax brackets with the same coverage as a "Members of Congress" will now come out ahead with additional funds going into a portable health savings account. Importantly, younger and healthier employees with the McCain health care tax credit will have a bigger incentive to stay with the employers. For example, a 25-year-old employee in the 25 percent tax bracket with a $2,500 tax credit could either purchase a policy in the individual market for the same amount or stay with his employer plan and receive a $5,000 policy with an additional $1,250 to invest in a portable health savings account. Why would people choose fewer benefits for more money?
So Why Is Barack Obama Hiding Details About His Plan?

Barack Obama's Plan Will Harm Employer Coverage
The Obama plan includes a $179 billion a year employer mandate. The mandate requires employers to either provide "meaningful" coverage or pay a tax towards the government plan. Faced with tough economic conditions and rising health costs this creates a clear incentive for employers to drop coverage and move families into the new government plan. A Lewin Group study which examined a similar employer mandate combined with a national plan, like the Obama plan, concluded that almost 52 million individuals would lose their private employer coverage. To maintain their competitive edge, others employers will follow - spelling the demise of the employer coverage system.

Barack Obama's Plan Continues The Push Toward Government-Run Healthcare
The Obama plan will create a brand new government-run health plan at the cost of $243 billion a year - a financial burden of more than $3,000 a year on American families.
Barack Obama's Plan Will Damage Private Coverage
The government-run plan will have a clear advantage over private insurance since it will be subsidized by American taxpayers. A recent analysis of both plans by the nonpartisan CATO Institute concluded that the Obama government-run plan will be able to "keep its premiums artificially low...since it can turn to the U.S. Treasury to cover any shortfalls" resulting in "undercutting the private market." According to Wall Street Journal, the goal of the Obama plan "...like HillaryCare in the 1990s, is to displace current private coverage and switch people to the default government option."
Paid for by McCain-Palin 2008***************

McCain WILL tax health care benefits. Now you are just lying .. err.. oopps.. making crap up.

Sorry Galois S. I didn't make this up. I re-posted this info for McCain supporters. Just because I'm supporting McCain and not putting my trust in Obama doesn't mean that you should automatically attack me and say I'm making crap up. I didn't write this, as I stated in that above comment. Doug Hotlz-Eakin, the Policy Advisor for McCain/Palin wrote this. If for some reason it is made up, then go let Doug know about it. I thought it was interesting to check out for those of us supporting McCain. Like no one on Obama's campaign is writing statements for his supporters? And, like none of Obama's supporters are posting proposed plans and negativity about McCain? It's ok to post all sorts of negativity about McCain, but the minute one of us posts our support for McCain, we're immediately attacked and called hypocrites, idiots, rednecks, racisits, un-educated, and then you want "proof" of how it derived.....I'm familiar with factcheck.org web site, also. What's good for one party is good for another. Obama's campaigns stating "Paid for by Obama-Biden 2008" doesn't mean he's telling the whole truth, either. I think all politicians exaggerate any way! But, it doesn't hurt to read what each candidate states they're planning on doing when they get in the office! Hey, Obama voters....We're only exercising our beliefs and trusting the candidate of our choice like the rest of you. If Obama wins, I have faith that God will always protect our great nation and will bring us through anything. If McCain wins, I still have that same faith that God will always protect our great nation and bring us through anything. Happy voting and God bless all. Regardless of who you support, we're all Americans, we're all neighbors, we're all one country together regardless of who wins........God bless all! :)

Amy, this is what Doug Holtz-Eakin said yesterday on CNN about McCain's healthcare plan:

On CNN today, McCain adviser Douglas Holtz-Eakin said workers who already receive health insurance from their employers would not take advantage of McCain's offer of a $5,000 tax credit to buy their own coverage.

"Why would they leave?" Holtz-Eakin asked. "What they are getting from their employer is way better than what they could get with the credit."

Holtz-Eakin comes right out and says that McCain's $5000 tax credit idea is not a good option. So where does that leave those of us who are self-employed or not working for someone who provides health insurance coverage?

Amy S. wrote: I didn't write this, as I stated in that above comment. Doug Hotlz-Eakin, the Policy Advisor for McCain/Palin wrote this.

Amy, my mom used to tell me to "consider the source" which is advice I've learned to live by. Can you see that the source of what you're quoting may have a vested interest in promoting his own best interests and perhaps would not be objective? The guy you quoted is McCain's POLICY ADVISOR. What does that tell you?

Hey Ann S. I get your point. I thought it was actually interesting to check out and posted it see what everyone else thought about it. I didn't want to start any controversy, but wanted to get some feed-back on it and allow other McCain supporters to think on it. I never stated I agreed to that option! We're all having to way out our options here! The elections next week is serious business! But, I totally understand you on the self-employment. My husband has been self-employed for 7 years now and we have to fork out majorly for our family to have health care that isn't the greatest in the world. I consider what you're saying. Thanks for that feedback.

Amy - You're only a racist if you say things like "I'm afraid he'll make whites his minority", or prejudice if you say things like "I don't trust Muslims". Otherwise, NOBODY has any reason to attack you as prejudice for not voting for Obama. If your vote for McCain has nothing to do with those kinds of things, you are not prejudice and nobody should ever call you that!!!

- I would not trust EITHER candidates websites (or those paid for by them) for truth about themselves or the other candidate.

You've mentioned some excellent things in our past postings that I've really looked at and I'm glad that you have, Jodi C. Some times we do need to stop and think! We can get too caught up in this and forget the real thing and what really matters! Even though I'm supporting McCain, I want to represent myself as open-minded person about all of the candidates, while considering my morals and values. Regardless of who wins, we need to know about these men because one of them is gonna be leading our country and they'll need our prayers and support all of the way. Whoever does win, I'll be in constant prayer, support, and respect as our leader, just as I've prayed for Bush in the past 8 years, and Clinton, too. On another ( funny ) note, I don't trust either candidates sites, neither. But, I do like to check out what they're saying just to see what they "think" they're gonna fix or gonna do! LOL! One reason why I do re-post some of the info I find is to read the feedback of others, even if I don't fully agree with it, myself. It's a good way to learn and get more information and see the thoughts and views of others about specific issues. America always! God bless, Jodi C. :)

Amy - This can't be FACT checking when it's NOT UNBIASED. Go to factcheck.org for an UNBIASED look at who is lying about what, etc. They look into everything. The above is "Paid for by McCain-Palin 2008", and therefore you cannot count on it as truth.

Obama is a racist. His wife is worst. I do not want to live under a Marxist or socialist or communist rule, and I feel that is want we will get with Obama.

McCain: The average taxpayer in every income group would see a lower tax bill, but high-income taxpayers would benefit more than everyone else.

Obama: High-income taxpayers would pay more in taxes, while everyone else's tax bill would be reduced. Those who benefit the most - in terms of reducing their taxes as a percentage of after-tax income - are in the lowest income groups.

Under both plans, all American taxpayers could pay a price for their tax cuts: a bigger deficit. The Tax Policy Center estimates that over 10 years, McCain's tax proposals could increase the national debt by as much as $4.5 trillion with interest, while Obama's could add as much as $3.3 trillion.

from cnn.money.com

So naive!! Actually obama's won't get sh*t because no one will have a job!

You mean like under Hoover?
