First of all I make less than 20,000.00 a year. I too have had unemployeed relatives that have been welcomed into my house until they could get on their feet all I asked is that they help out around the house, nothing got done and no effort was made to get a job. It is awful that you can't afford bus fair to help him out.

sallie p Yeah let me know when you get the tax cut. But is it going to be before or after you lose your job. The man sounds good but can he deliver. And you can thank clinton for the majority of the problems we are facing now. Bush had very little to do with it. And if democrat voters would get there head out of obama's a** long enough to really look past his exterior and look at the interior he really is no different than any other politician but then again when you can get weak minded people behind you you just keep talking and they will follow.Lord help us all to make educated choices and not destructive ones.

You guys jump onto these catchy words and phrases and it cracks me up. You DO realize that ALL TAXES are redistribution of wealth? ALL TAXES are taking money from those who earn it, and redistributing it. You do realize that McCain's plan for the government to buy up bad mortgages is a socialist policy?

If you don't want to pay ANY taxes then you have an argument against redistribution of wealth. But NEITHER candidate is presenting that. Voting for one over the other because of redistribution of wealth is silly, because they are both going to have to do PLENTY of taxing.

It is truly amazing how well the leftest, liberal media has been able to spread their agenda and influence so many people. People like sheep and lemmings have flocked to the Obama camp filled with fantasy and dreams of how he is going to lead them up the mountain to a highter plain of existance. I truly feel sorry for each and everyone who has bought into this altered state of conciousness and being. I am not a religious fanatic or some kind of nut. I read this drival posted here and other places, I read the newspapers and watch the new's and I see a nation of people that are so hungey for change that they eagerly and with no thought of the results gulp down all that is put before them and sit back contented. Obama is the perverbial Wolf in sheeps clothing and many of you are so willing to bare your throats so he can sink his greedy hungry fangs. I will continue to pray for you and this election. Remember all that glitters is not gold and too many of you are so blinded by the shineing light of his deceptions that you cannot see the truth. I don't think McCain / Palin are as pure as the driven snow, none of us are. But they don't have the hidden agenda that Obama has.

How about McCain's changing agenda? First he was against Bush tax cuts, now he is for Bush tax cuts. Who knows where he'll REALLY be in the future.

Steve, I actually agree with everything you have said. I have only one
disagreement with you. It really entirely applies to YOU and YOUR
Republican leanings. McCain and his hidden Bush agenda are what all
of we sheep are concerned with. Of course the majority want change, why do you think that is??
Sallie Palin

Steve, do you really believe that McCain and Palin don't have a hidden agenda? Unfortunately, Palin's hidden agenda significantly differs from McCain's. Actually, I guess it doesn't. They both want to be our next President. The idea of that woman as President is more frightening to think of than the havoc GW has wreaked in our country over the past 8 years.

The "leftist, liberal media" must have infiltrated the minds and hearts of all the country's major newspapers, television stations and journalists- except for Fox News where the Religious Right still (mostly) reigns supreme. When Conservatives and even die-hard Republicans are now coming out in support of Obama and against their own party candidates, it is evident who is the clear choice for our next President. Hint: it doesn't begin with an M or a P.

"The idea of that woman as President is more frightening to think of than the havoc GW has wreaked in our country over the past 8 years."
This comment is the stupidest thing I have ever seen on here. You are an ignorant sexist. Maybe you are not intelligent enough to become president, but I know a lot of women who are.

Pardon me, Levetta, but it's my understanding that personal attacks on other members are not allowed on this forum.

I am not "ignorant" nor am I a "sexist" just because I am afraid of the further damage that a person like Sarah Palin could inflict on this country if she were elected into a position of power. If you listen to her talk about the Vice-Presidency, it's evident she has no idea what the position entails. She has made it clear that she thinks she'll have enormous power to affect change if she is elected VP. She has lately broken ranks from McCain on the campaign trail so she can be her own "maverick" and do her own thing since it's obvious, she doesn't agree with how he's handling the election. He's rapidly losing ground and she doesn't want to be associated with a loser.

Based on my observations of the behavior of both John McCain and Sarah Palin throughout this campaign, I don't believe either of them possess the intelligence, diplomacy or humanity to lead our country out of its current state of crisis. Their political tactics have been nothing but negative, divisive and filled with rhetoric to incite fear and anger towards their opponents. They never take the time to enlighten anyone on what they plan to do to help the country get back on its feet-they're too busy slamming Obama. This is the last thing our country needs right now and the fact that they continue to do it shows me that all they care about is winning-no matter what the cost.

Those are not the kind of people I want leading our country. Not because it's a man and woman running for President and VP but because it's two individuals who could care less what this country needs right now. They are in this to further their own personal agendas for power and they don't care what kind of damage they do along the way.

It's my hope that Hillary Clinton or some other highly-qualified female candidate runs for President in 2012. But I'm very pleased that we have two very worthy candidates to choose for President and VP this time around. Obama/Biden have my confidence and my vote.

Ann - Very well said, thank you for your highly intelligent input. This site can definitely use more well written and intellectual voices.

Thanks, Jodi. That is high praise coming from you. Your posts are very insightful and informative. You have a way of making your point without being offensive-a rare gift.

I apologize for the personal attack I was out of line I took what you said personal. Again I apologize.

Thanks for the apology, Levetta. These political discussions do get heated sometimes. It's easy to cross the line between respectful disagreement and personal attack. This presidential race has been a prime example of how respectful disagreement between two candidates can turn into viscious attacks when one side doesn't see eye-to-eye with the other. That has set the tone for the entire campaign and it's gotten really ugly. The candidates who engage in it do not gain the respect of well-educated, informed voters. They appeal to the Jerry Springer mentality that feeds on the 'anything goes", mud-slinging, incendiary style of getting the audience all worked-up with negative energy. Fortunately, the polls seem to show that the majority of voters are fed up with that kind of campaign tactic.

Levetta - We have all said things on here we probably wish we could take back. You're not alone. That can happen when you talk politics.

Levetta, Ann said, if you want to reread it, that woman, which personalizes it and does not refer to all women. Sexism cannot be
charged here since it was a personal attack. I belonged for many years
to NOW and believe me any feminist would have jumped on that remark if it referred to all women. Even feminists recognize incompetence in other women when it is apparent.
Sallie Palin

But, she said THAT woman, NOT ANY woman.

I must argue with your assumption that people are mindlessly voting for Obama. I find it interesting that you choose to display your argument for that with such things as "sheep and lemmings", "filled with fantasy and dreams", "lead them up the mountain to a higher plain of existence", "altered state of consciousness and existence". Please, tell us specifically about this hidden agenda to which you are privy, and we are blind. Tell us in your words, what you believe he is not telling us. And, please, give us specific examples of why you see this hidden agenda.

Spread the Wealth, His affliations imply what our parents taught us.GUILT BY ASSOCIATION.I think in biblical times the tax was collected at your door and sharp punishment was given if it wasn,t there.PLEASE WAKE UP..COMMUNISISM IS COMING UNDER THE NAME OF SOCIALISM...

Sorry Brandy, I heard your argument in 1955 when I was
18 years old and the fearmongers like Joe McCarthy almost
brought this country to a halt. You need to do some research about Socialism, we already have a lot of it in our Government. As years go by intelligent people,( such as most Americans) find that Democracy is not watered down by adopting other options. Social Security, Medicare,
Medicaid, are all socialist programs. Perhaps you do not
agree with these programs but being 72 and having paid more than my fair share for over 40 years and my husband
for the same time. We are happy to receive a break.
And of course the biggest Socialist program of all is the
bail out of the wall street scions who raped us in the
first place. Thanks for listening
Sallie Palin

Levetta - you are what America is all about. Thank God or whoever (don't want to piss off anyone)there are still hardworking people who love America. I hope it is still called the land of the free if Obama is elected.

.

The "rich" have and they do pay their fair share. People who don't work are the ones not paying their fair share but are the first to exploit government handouts. I am tired of working for everyone else. I am not here to pay for and take care of people who put themselves in the position they are in. We give them every opportunity to do better they choose not to.
If you are wondering I am not among the $250,000.00 dollar "rich" by far, but I was reared to have pride and not to expect to be handed everything, but to work for it and be proud of my accomplishments. Something that my great country has seemed to have forgotten.

I understand your frustration. I am part of the top tax bracket who will pay more under the Obama tax plan. But, here's why my husband and I are willing to pay higher taxes:
We feel the MOST important parts of a successful society include education. A society that fails to have educated citizens cannot maintain its superpower status, puts its national security at risk, and creates within itself an environment ripe for crime. Education is SOOO important. My husband and I paid for college ourselves through jobs and student loans. However, we have seen with nieces and nephews that they do not even have that option. Costs have become SOOO HIGH and loans so much more difficult and with higher interest rates. This is creating an environment where college will be only for the rich and elite.
It is in ALL OF OUR BEST INTERESTS to have an educated society. Lack of education means we can't produce the worlds greatest scientists, for example. If that's the case, just think how quickly the rest of the world will surpass us. Lack of an educated society means crime rises within - Don't you want to feel safe in your own environment? Down the road, lack of an educated society means fewer people to solve our big problems, fewer physicians to help the sick, fewer scientists to cure disease, fewer engineers to propel us forward in things like automobile design, global warming and energy, etc.
Truly - We feel it is in ALL OF OUR BEST INTERESTS to invest in the education of our society. If we didn't live within a society, it wouldn't matter. But we do, so educating that society effects us dramatically.

Jodi C. I agree we need education however I just graduated from college two years ago and I paid my own way. While I watched people who had their education paid for by the government "goof off" and not appreciate the opportunity they were given I struggled financially and spent many all-nighters studying and working hard for every grade I received. I couldn't afford college straight out of high school so I worked until I was able to save enough to go. And TRUST me I APPRECIATED it alot more. As far as giving to society I believe in helping others less fortunate, but only if they are willing to help themselves, most are not. I have found everybody wants everything right now, but are not willing to put in the effort to get it.

I think we do agree a bit, and it sounds like we did the same types of things to get through college. I went to the University of Michigan and even though I worked nights to pay for expenses, I still had to borrow quite a large sum of money. It was worth it, I don't mind. But, I don't think what we went through should be allowed to become the expectation of everyone. Again, I think the dangers of NOT educating people are HUGE.
While community college tuitions still seem to be manageable, university tuition costs are rising, while student loan interest rates are too, making it increasingly more difficult for people to do as we have done. Moreover, there is a problem with some student loans being sold and the buyers of those loans not being regulated - and the graduates being significantly hurt in the long run.
But, to me, the bottom line is that it should be EASY to pay for college. I'm not saying it should be easy to get through it from an academic standpoint. But making it easier significantly widens the population of people who would do it. Not everyone is like you. Many people grow up in an environment where they are not taught a good work ethic. Kids, right now, are growing up with fathers who beat their mothers, can't keep a job, mothers who are alcoholics, parents who could care less about the child or their education. These are the people who will be unable to do what you and I did to get through college. These are the people who need the social programs while they're growing up that our tax dollars pay for. We need to make college very accessible to them (and everyone). We disagree on the fact that most people are not willing to help themselves. I think most people ARE, they just haven't been given the skills to do it, or the hope, or the guidance. Will there be people who, as you say, "goof off", sure!! But their punishment should be failing out of school, not discontinuing the financing for their education. When you punish those people by making college so hard to pay for, you are really punishing EVERYONE. Again, you are to be commended for your perseverance, but please, think about the dangers of making what you went through the rule rather than the exception. And, again, I think the dangers of NOT educating people are so HUGE, that whatever we need to do to make college easy to get done (NOT academically easy) is extremely important.

But, to me, the bottom line is that it should be EASY to pay for college. I'm not saying it should be easy to get through it from an academic standpoint. But making it easier significantly widens the population of people who would do it.

Jodi, I absolutely agree! I live in Ohio where the least expensive 4 year university education now costs approximately $18,000/year. That is strictly for tuition, room and board and does not include books and fees which run another $2000/year. My daughter was an honor roll student throughout high school and chose the least expensive state school that also offered her the best scholarship. We still have to come up with approximately $10,000/year which is very difficult. The school she's attending is in an urban area where a group of students have already been robbed and shot at since the school year began. My daughter is afraid to venture out of her dorm after dark.

She is discouraged and unhappy there. She doesn't feel challenged by her classes or classmates. She says that most of the student body seems much more interested in partying than studying. She would have thrived in a small, liberal arts college in a small town where the focus was on academics but the prices of those schools are way out of reach for most students-running $35,000/year or more. She is studying to be a teacher. She'd spend years of her working life trying to repay student loans if she'd chosen to attend a private institution.

My sister lives in Virginia where her daughter recently graduated from an excellent university where she paid $12,000/year. I attended Miami University many years ago and loved it. But it now runs about $24,000/year. My daughter couldn't even look at that school. Students should not have to pay $100,000 to attend a state school. The system is definitely broken.

I have never once heard McCain or Palin talk about increased spending for education except to say that they couldn't be expected to fund every special-interest group out there. I hardly think that college students, our future, are a special-interest group.

Obama wants to make educating our children a priority. That's another of the many reasons I voted for him. He has consistently shown me that his priorities are in the right place.

Hi Levetta
I applaud you for your work ethic. I too have worked
hard all my life. I am 72 and still working. I raised six
children and three are in the middle bracket of taxation
and three are over the 250,000. Four of them went to college with very little help from us and are still paying their student loans off. My grandchildren who wanted to attend college have found it extremely difficult to finance college through jobs or loans. The loans they have been able to get, are coming with higher interest rates and the loans are sold to companies that seem to be able to do whatever they want. My children who earn over 250,000 have all agreed that paying a higher tax is less important to them than voting for McCain who
will not change the Bush education plan. I think many Americans have heard the "spreading the wealth" statement
and assumed the majority of the break goes to non tax payers. My family has always voted Republican but this time we feel the Obama plan makes good sense. The taxing
of the wealthy means giving a tax break to the middle class helping them recover in this economic chaos. One of
my daughters income is significantly above 400,000 a year.
Her tax increase would be about 30,000. That sounds like
a lot to me, I work in retail and barely make that much,
but it is in fact a very small amount when you consider the incomes of some of these people who find loopholes and
pay as little as possible. Warren Buffet was quoted as saying that his Secretary paid more tax last year than he
did. The people Obama is helping is me and my family and
you and yours who are the vanishing middle class. Thanks
for listening.
Sallie Palin

Anything worth having is worth working for. That is what I believe in, hard work, I do not believe in stealing from the rich and giving to the poor. I do not believe in punishing hard work and rewarding those who expect a handout. Bush did not put us here government handouts did. My analogy would be if you and your family have two tv's that you worked hard and saved for and a burgular decided you have two I have none so I am going to take one of your tvs for myself. Would that be ok with you and your family? It is not ok with me. I would like the option of helping who I choose, not who is chosen for me.

Jim, I do not think poor people are lowlife scum. I said that everyone should pay taxes. I am pointing out that when people use government freebees as a lifestyle they become complacent. It has nothing to do with being poor. I wrote all "able bodied" people should work and pay taxes. That is why I am for the Fair Tax. If you bothered to research the Fair Tax you would see how it benefits all of us. Oh, you probably are not a taxpayer. I like rich people it makes me aspire to work harder like they did. What a great country where hard work reaps rewards. You sound a little jealous.

One simple question Why do you hate Sarah Palin so much? Is it because she is a woman? All I have heard on this board is racism what abot sexism? OBAMA supporters have no reason to hate her but fear.
