If he does't like the United States now, what he could do is change the United States.If he is not patriotic enough,then change the United States so he could be proud of and can be patriotic about the country.Blacks who were slaves in the 17th century couldn't be patriostic until the country change .Patriotism right now doesn't matter.But patriotism after he serves as president deffinitely matter.

I don't think we should try to read so hard into something so inane. He was standing respectfully, not burning our flag during the anthem.

Remember that presidents do not salute the flag. Regardless, I think people may be looking at this the wrong way - I've seen Barack place his hand over heart many times during anthems. It may have just been a stupid mistake, and I do not believe it actually means all that people assume.

please keep in mind that some religions prohibit the pledge of allegiance and other observances of the flag as being akin to idolatry. Do you want a person to choose between following their faith and being good at a dog an pony show just so that you can feel that they are a good patriot? Patriotism and religion should both be allowed to be a personal matter.

I've had to salute and I've also done the civilian thing... every male in my family has served in the military in some capacity back five generations. I do not feel slighted by this, am voting for Obama.

I thought most people just stand. I put my hand over my heart during the pledge of allegiance because it's a pledge. Usually if you are at a baseball game people will put their hand over their heart if they were wearing a hat that they took off because it is awkward to put the hat anywhere else. I consider myself pretty patriotic but I don't see a problem here. He obviously loves the country, he wants to be the President of it.
