Open Records Legislation Impacts PA Realtors

Description: The Open Records legislation now being considered by the PA General Assembly (Senate Bill 1 ) contains a provision that would prohibit purchased data from being sold or provided to another for commercial purposes. This would prohibit your Multiple Listing Service (MLS) from purchasing crucial data (tax assessment, housing characteristic, mortgage and other property data). Without the ability of an MLS to compile complex county-level housing data into a user-friendly format, the home buying and selling process will become much more difficult and costly. At a time when the housing market is already struggling, enacting this provision will stymie the market even further. Sign this petition. TAKE ACTION NOW to help defeat this onerous provision!

Is there something more to this legislation? What motivated it? If it's privacy, is it all bad? Could we see a link to the legislation and perhaps a summary? Thanks.
This information is critical in real estate industry to properly price homes and service Buyers and Sellers. With all of the mortgage industry issues at hand, it is more imperative for this information to be accurate and available to Realtors.
Really bad timing for this move wouldn't you say.
