I wish to form a prayer that makes all churches happy so we can get prayer back in school I ALSO WANT PRAYER DONE 10 MIN. Before attedance call. So students don't have to be there
I was wondering if schools had changed their minds and had decided to give their students a chance to pray togethor for ten minutes a day -- those that want to that is. Not only would it help bring God into the school lives, it would be a great way for Christian students to get togethor and know there are other Christians in their schools. In todays society where peer pressure is ever present it might be useful to help Christian students find each other.
I actually don't agree with the idea of "creating" a prayer. For those of you who have experienced something of God, he definitely isn't a formula. God isn't a genie in a bottle; reciting prayers ritualistically does not make Him more aware of you as perhaps many of have been misled to believe in the past. Although Jesus did form a prayer for us, I personally think most prayer should be a free expression of the heart-to someone who IS listening!!
yehudit c. - I understood what was meant by what he said. You really needto quit trying to bring others down for their lack of proper usage of their words. This discussion board is to get our feelings out, not to please you!
Beyond this, I do agree that if you want pray in school, you can gather on your own before school. My friends and I did this. It would be nearly impossible to create a prayer for every religion. Just to name a few off of the top of my head, there are Christians, Native Americans, Jewish, Wiccans, and Satanists.
the petition says that the prayer time wouldn't be required, but I imagine the reason it would need to be more official is so that teacher's can freely participate too. Honestly, although it would be nice thing to have back in school, I doubt it will really happen. It isn't especially necessary anyway since as far as I know student's aren't restricted from doing this in their own time during lunch or before school starts; it would just be nice for teachers to be free to participate. This is allowable at many high schools, but not all I don't think.
p.s. North American is not the title of any religion I have ever heard of, it is a people group though.
Actually she said Native Americans not North Americans, and Native Americans have their own religion that I dont think to many people know the name of. Anyway, when I was in high school my teacher told us up front that she took the moments of silence to pray and that she would be angry if we made noise. She was also the sponsor of the club called Fellowship of Christian Athletes.
Didn't I comment on another comment of yours, Aqua B? Again, your command of the language betrays you. And "stealing" food, there's a Christian motivation.
Every word you uses, counts to someone. Use them with thought, you'll go further.
What do you mean by "your command of the language betrays you"? And the stealing was a playful comment between respected board members. What I like donuts, and if you don't you're just really weird. The teacher said even non-Christians can come to the club if they like and share some of their treats; why not take advantage of someone’s kindness, they’ll go stale otherwise? What are you trying to say about stealing food is a Christian motivation? Yes every word you use does count to someone, but if you read them right they'll go even further. And further still if you respond well enough for the person to understand.
I would like it if you would explain your use of words before you criticize mine. It would be much appreciated.
Start by remembering that Christianity is not the world or the US religious majority, that is, not everyone attends "church," and no, you couldn't have meant any house of worship--your word choice betrays you.
Besides, it seems to me that anyone can use those 10 minutes anyway they want, including in prayer--why "require" it? Let those who want, gather on their own before school.
I wish a prayer group outside of school hours did exist when I went to high school. It would have been a good way for all the Christian kids in my old high school to get togethor, pray and have a little bit of fellowship. There is so much peer pressure in high schools today that I would have appreciated a group like that when I went to high school.
I think what he means is that teenagers sincerely trying to follow God are also sincerely trying not to drink/smoke/swear/sleep around, etc. things like that. Whatever is wrong for them. But most teens don't care about those things (which are almost all harmful), and so make Christian teens compromise or change their positions on things like that so that they can feel like they fit in.
I would be really surprised if you haven't seen this before...
Oh i see that, trust me. There are pimps and prostitues at my school, there are drug dealers and so much more. I thought you were talking about being pressured not to be christian or something.
I was also thinking Aqua, wouldn't there be some sort of club or people with like minded intersts that you would like to meet with each day? Maybe you are interested in Anime or one of the new Rock Bands, almost anything? I don't see this as being restricted to Christians, what I was trying to say I guess is that Christian high school students feel a need for it these days. At least I did when I was in High School, the terror of the ages. Wes.
Oh I am in anime club, Japanese club, Peer mediation, help out with FBLA and Anchor club. I'm also in Girl Scouts (which is pretty much a more or less Christian originated organization and I really dont care. I still say the pledge and the law) I understood when you said that about having clubs for Christians to feel united and I applaud you for wanting that. Try to see if you can get a club started in a local high school or church or something. If I could I'd even vist so I could steall some of your donuts. Thats the reason I want to visit the FCA in my school. tehe FREE FOOD
Hi Aqua, No, I wouldn't be for trying to make not non=-christians feel awkard or left out. That would be wrong. But I felt like what Elly was talking about, the peer pressure to fit in school -- doing drugs, swear and sleep around. High school kids need to fit in. All I wanted to say that in my particular school it would have been nice to have our own small peer group, just for mutual support and felowship. btw, it looks like you got the last word on the Golden Compass board -- YouChoose should give you a medal or something for that!
MichaelR(B.B.B.09)the bible says"better that ye should pray in a closet".please go there now!please keep YOUR religion to YOURself!

Who he? Incase you were referring to me, I'm a she. If not, then I would just like to admire your point.

Embrace Atheism and see the truth. An honest God is the noblest work of man.
now now let them pray
the "have prayer 10 minutes before attendance" idea is a good one. It leaves room for choice. And nobody is pressured.
they have 3 min for moment of silence.
Try starting a felloship of christian athletes, like my school does. Its a club so it also looks good on their record

Welll...There isn't really pressure against religion. not that i can see.
