Description:

I am writing to you all today to help save a wonderful show. I am going to be sad to see it go. I Don't want it to go please help us change there minds...

(April 1) -- This is not an April Fool's joke (so far, at least) -- 'Guiding Light' will be no more come September.

The CBS soap opera that's been in existence for 72 years -- since 1937 on the radio and 1952 on the television -- will air its final episode post-Summer. The Associated Press cites declining daytime ratings and budget as the reason for the show's demise.
Soap Opera Digest, who was the first to report the cancellation, has a response from the show's executive producer, Ellen Wheeler. On the end of 'Guiding Light,' Wheeler said: "Being on the air for more than seven decades is truly remarkable, and it will be difficult for all of us at the show to say goodbye."

I know money speaks louder than words, but this is just wrong. Guiding Light should be saved. I miss the days of all the glitz and glammer. Bring some of that back and maybe it can be saved. No one wants to see all the money troubles...we have enough of that in real life. We watch soaps to escape from reality, not to be reminded of it.
There is a lot of things on television that we watch that is of very little value or attention worthy, but the Guiding Light is part of television history. It is a mainstay in people's lives, and to end it would be a huge mistake. The Guiding Light has changed along the way from radio, to studio, to suburbia filming. Very few (if any) soaps do that and I LIKE IT!!!!! It makes it more real and you actually feel like you are part of the action. I have grown up watching many soap operas over my 50 some years, and I think that it would be a huge mistake to take it off the air. However, like many things that decisions have already been made, you will probably go through the cancelling process. Maybe you could create a new soap called "Springfield" with all of the characters to make up for cancelling this American Icon. Vickie in UT
I will be so very sad if Guiding Light is cancelled. I don't remember a time tnat I have not watch GL, when I worked I always recorded it. It is the one soap That I have never stoppped watching. I hope CBS decides to keep it on!!!!It would truly be like losing a life long friend.
I'm signing this in hopes that it will do some good. I've watched this soap since I was 5 years old with my mom. I watch (or record to watch) all of the CBS soaps and this one has much better story lines and actors than either Bold and the Beautiful or As the World Turns. I really hope that the "powers that be" change their mind or another "smart" network scoops this up.
take some of the reality shows off not Guiding Light!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
PLEASE dont cancel my beloved soap. Its the only one ive ever watched that didnt insult my inteligience by repeating scenes in flashback, all the time. I watch soaps on all networks and The Light is my favorite Gina in Knoxville
I cannot believe after all these years one of my favorite shows is going to be cancelled. If this happens not only will I not watch any replacement I will go back to watching channel 11 soaps. I use to watch them but started watching Guiding Light and then the others. If this is cancelled I will return to channel 11. Almost all the shows I watch now are on this station now for morning until late night but I am sure if necessary I can find good shows on the other stations from morning until late night. I am sure though you are not worried about losing a few viewers over this but if all the Guiding Light viewers feel the same way I do it would sure make a difference. I am not happy with things going on in the others (like Sharon taking Nick from his family now even though she should be with Jack and it should be his baby for real and Carly becoming a drunk, even though I do really like the new Craig and I never thought I would ever say that!!) but this would not be enough to make me leave but losing the light would. Surley ther must be some way to save it, hopefully before it loses all it great stars and hopefully still on the same channel. I always watched this show with my mother and whe got me hooked on it but when I left home I started watching the other station. Then she got me hooked on it again. I recently lost her but please don't take our show away!!!
ummm i feel it is time for the show to end. its been on many many years, and maybe the actors want to move on to something else. yes i will miss the show since i have been watching since i was 10yrs. i watched it with my mom. as she listened to it on the radio, so its been in my family alife time. good luck to all of the actors and the people that put it together.
I have watching the show since 1958 please don't cancel it it make very sad.
I've been watching GL for 38 years now. Before VCRs I took a TV to work to watch during lunch. Now, watching GL is my only unwind time after a tough day of work. I don't know what I'm going to do without that 45 min of "me" time, but in this tough economy losses have been much greater, so even though I HATE this, I can't complain too much. Thank you Guiding Light. I've enjoyed every minute of our time together.
PLEASE DO NOT CANCEL THE GUIDING LIGHT I HAVE BEEN WATCHING THE SHOW FOR OVER 40 YRS AND I WILL GREATLY MISS THE SHOW.
When Guiding light came on the radio I was just born. I have watched off and on for over 50 years. This is the one and only soap I watch. I love the show and feel that all is part of my family. Please don't take it off or switch to another station.

PLEASE WHAT EVER YOU DON'T LET PHILLIP DIE HE IS THE BEST THING THAT HAS HAPPENED HE HAS MADE THE SHOW SO INTERESTING! HE IS SUCH A GOOD ACTOR! SO PLEASE DON'T CANCELL THE SHOW THERE WILL BE SO MANY UNHAPPY PEOPLE OUT THERE HOW CAN YOU END SOMETHING THAT IS SO GOOD!!!!

I AM 76 YEARS OLD, AND LISTENED TO GUIDING LITE SINCE I WAS ABOUT 6YRS OLD AND I WOULD SIT WITH MY AUNTS AND LISTEN ON THE RADIO. IT IS A CLASSIC, ALL IT NEEDS IS A LITTLE PICK-ME-UP. IT WOULD BE THE END OF OF A CLASSIC. PLEASE RE-CONSIDER. GRACE V.
I really think that cbs is downright out of their mind to cancel the greatest soap operas ever i feel sorry for the fans of guiding light and all of the outstanding actors who have been on the show for as long as the show has been on tv cbs should reconsider taking off the gulding light
PLEASE DON'T CANCEL THE ONLY SOAP I WATCH!!! I have watch this show for over 30 years. This is a disgrace to cancel the longest running show on television. What is wrong with you? CBS puts money before loyalty. What a sad day. I will forever see CBS as a sell out company. I beg you DO NOT CANCEL this wonderful show. Thank you
Please keep Guilding Light on the air it is alot better then some of your other soaps. I have been watching Guilding Light since I was in high school I like Josh and Reva together they show how it is really like in life.
I don't want guiding light to go. I have watch this show for 34 years. Please listen to us and keep the show running. Thanks, Chesapeake, VA
GUIDING LIGHT IS MY FAVORITE SOAP OF ALL AND I AM A FAITHFUL WATCHER. I WILL NO LONGER WATCH ANY OF CBS DAYTIME SOAPS IF THEY FOLLOW THROUGH AND TAKE THIS SOAP OFF THE AIR.
i have been watching since i was a child, my mother and grandmother watched.........please dont take my light away.........
This is the best show of all t.v. It would hurt plenty of people, I think instead of taking it off air just move it to a different time so that we can watch it after work please. take any that you want just save GL.
I raised all my babie's watching GL back in the 60's.Taking this beloved show off the air is just wrong! Jude
I started watching GL when Tom Pelphrey was on. When he left I vowed I would never watch again, but I was hooked and have been watching ever since. Please dont cancel my favorite show! Wendy
i have watched guiding light a very long time loved all the charcters especially grant alexander, it seems silly to me to bring back some of the old people ed michelle danny then get people hooked again then go off the air does not make sense to me although i am only a peon viewer. anne mccarty@md.metrocast.neT
I have watched Guiding Light for over 40 years and my days would be empty without it...I can't believe anyone would even entertain the thought of canceling it. I do prefer the old sets..not too crazy about all the outside scenes..maybe going back to what was working best would be an idea. But keep the light !!!
The plots are often thin and too quickly resolved( that's life on soaps)but these actors can often put others to shame-I'm a Psychologist, my husband a Psychologist/Lawyer/Judge, and we watch Josh and Reva while we make dinner. I do so hope a soap like happy ending will happen for the cast and writers. Anna T.
please dont cancel gl, i started watching it a few yrs ago never watched soaps in my life, gl just caught my eye and ive been a fan ever since
Please don't take GL off the air! It's the only soap I have ever watched. I was sick a lot as a child and missed a lot of school. I used to watch with my grandmother whenever I was home. It's such a special memory! She said she had watched for as long as she could remember. I've been watching now for nearly 30yrs. I feel like I grew up with Beth, Philip, Rick and Mindy! Don't take them away now!!
