Description:

I am writing to you all today to help save a wonderful show. I am going to be sad to see it go. I Don't want it to go please help us change there minds...

(April 1) -- This is not an April Fool's joke (so far, at least) -- 'Guiding Light' will be no more come September.

The CBS soap opera that's been in existence for 72 years -- since 1937 on the radio and 1952 on the television -- will air its final episode post-Summer. The Associated Press cites declining daytime ratings and budget as the reason for the show's demise.
Soap Opera Digest, who was the first to report the cancellation, has a response from the show's executive producer, Ellen Wheeler. On the end of 'Guiding Light,' Wheeler said: "Being on the air for more than seven decades is truly remarkable, and it will be difficult for all of us at the show to say goodbye."

Please keep Guiding light on the air. I've watched it many, many years..and even listened when it was only a fifteen minute radio show. It is the only soap I watch. If this slot is going to be a game show, etc. I won't watch it and will probably watch Fox News, although the same news will be repeated over and over. What a shame to take this popular soap off the air.
I am still in shock over the news of the cancellation of this beautiful long running soap. I am a third generation fan of this show. I can remember hearing about the Lewis, Bauer,Spaulding Families and considering them part of my family. Since I work full-time when I do get a chance to see the show I can almost feel my mom and grandmother with me. I hope CBS and the producers can find a place for this remarkable, well-acted soap. Joan D.
I JUST ADDED THIS TO MY/MYFACE BOOK.IHAVE SIGNED AND HAVE BEEN LOOKING FOR UPDATES.ANY NEWS JET THE SOAPS R GOOD /GREAT&LOVED WE DONT NEED NO MORE GAME SHOWS OR COOKING SHOWS.
I have been watching GL since the 70's like alot of people with my Mother. I had always loved the show like the time when Reva was able to go back in time thru the painting. But I have noticed over the years that the Producer's and Writer's must be bored and are running out of things to do on the show. The show is suppose to be SpringField, IL not NJ. But the downgrade on the taping to smaller but different homes. It is no longer the upscale show it use to be like It's counter part The Young and the Restless. Don't they know that it is the detail that makes or breaks a show. I was watching the preview's from yesterday for today's show (6/19) and they had a scene with Marina and she was holding Henry in a Sling wrap for an infant Henry is 9 month's old and is to big for it when he is in a live scene he sit on her hip, or here is a good one Natalia is Pregnant in real life, but not on the show what happened to tying to hide it. Year's ago they would show Head and Shoulder shots not anymore. I'm sorry this kind of shoddy writting and story lines is in pour taste and the show's are showing sloppy workmenship. I'm sorry that the Producer's and the Writer's have lost there touch, Give me a job I could use one and I'll show you how the show should come out, I'd need free rein and control but with a good crew that cared and everyone working together I bet I could save the show. I will miss you GL but under the circumstances I will have to say ado. Good luck to the Cast of the GL show. G Durand
Please keep thi program going. I can remember listening to it on the radio when I was a wee one and have now been watching it for years. They deal with real life subjects and not bizare marraiges and soforth.
I like so many other's have watched GL since the 70's started with my mother when I was a child. I have always loved the show. It has had some of the craziest episode's ever. Like Reva going back in time thru that painting. I have alwas taped when not at home in fact I am watching yesterday's right now. It is 10:06 am. I really have to be honest that over the last couple of years there has been alot of changes in the show. Not only characters, but the entire set has changed. Not to mention they seem to be not coming up with much of anything as far as a plot or story line. Who has come up with this crap they have been putting into a show that was upscale like the Young and the Restless. What happened is what I have to ask. I know that I noticed the shift in story and all a couple of years ago. I think that unfortunely after 72 strong years of service the producer's and writer's have just run out of things to write about. I wish it didn't have to come to an end. but this is what we call life goes on. I'll miss you GL. (just a thought about a week ago I know that I saw two cars on the show one had IL. plates and the other had NJ plates. Now if you all recall the show is suppose to be in SpringField, IL, but it is taped in NJ. OH! YEAH! I was just watching the preview for today from yesterday and they where showing Marina and she was holding Henry and he was in a sling for infants he is 9 months old and is to big for that he sits on your hip when they have him a live scene. (WHO COMES UP WITH THIS STUFF DON'T THEY RELIZE THAT IT IS THE EYE FOR SMALL DETAILS THAT MAKE OR BREAK THE SHOW'S). (HELLLLLLOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!) Gay Durand
I listened with my mother on the radio and began watching then later on television also with her. I do not want to see the show end. The characters make it the great show that it is. Rickie Caldwell
I can remember coming home from school as a teenager, and my mom and I would finish watching the Guiding Light. It was an everyday ritual for the two of us,and I have carried on the excitement every since.I have grown to love,as well as hate the characters, and would miss the show terribly if it were to become deleted from my everyday life.So in closing, please do not discontinue this show.It is and will remain the best show in television. Sincerily Kimberly Hayes
I have watch Guiding Light since the 70's. During this time, there have been years that the show ratings were not as good as one would have hope. Now that the show seems to be listening to the fans and address possible true to life events CBS decides to cancell it. This is wrong. I plan to boycott CBS programs, if this does happen. I may only be one fan, but if you do not listen to your fan then why should we watch whatever you think we need to just to make you more profit by cutting your cost.
i have been watching guiding light since reva first died. my great grandmother watched this show. i love this show and cant believe it caould be over!!!
We're actually much younger than the rest of you, and we look forward each evening to see our recording and what's going on on GL
My grandmother was a devoted Guiding Light fan. When she went on the last around the world cruise of the Queen Mary, my uncle sent her a daily telegram of the highlights of that day's episode. Once word got out, she became one of the most popular passengers on the ship. My wife has watched the show for years, but I never did until I retired a few years ago. I used to make sarcastic remarks about it, but now I'm as much a fan as she is. They certainly don"t advertise to my demographic type!
I began watching Guiding Light many decades ago with my grandmother who has long since passed away; every time I watch, it reminds me of her and of the summers I spent with her as a child watching GL. Please don't stop the memories!!!
I forgot to mention...when the tape flew off my speaker, I knew my mom was in the room with me, and I led her to the light because of Guiding light! I'm in tears reading all these pleas to keep Guiding Light on the air, it's our family, don't you get it? To loose a family member is hard, to loose a whole cast of family members, is beyond words!!! There is too much pain in the world as it is! This is our, "Me Time"
please dont cancel guiding light i record it every day while i am at work thats the first thing i watch when i get home . Besides i am so tired of these court shows and reality shows there is no story line and they are all so boring. look at passions they went off and replaced it with thing i would never watch. this is one of the only real shows left. YOU HAVE A PERFECT STORY LINE WITH GUILDING LIGHT THAT COULD GO ON FOR YEARS
It was my mother's show, when Richard died, we cried together, and then he came back as another character, and we argued whether it was Richard or Jeffery, my mother died shortly after that, I tape the show during the day and watch it at night, one night, a video tape that was sitting flat on a stero speaker for 3 months, flew off and hit the floor! I was watching Guiding Light when it happened!!!! If Guiding Light goes off the air, it's like loosing my mother all over again...in my mind, my mother's memory lives on through Guiding Light
The Guiding Light is as much a part of my life as my job is. The characters have become my neighbors and friends over the last 50 years. To the faithful followers of GL, taking it off the air will be like the tragic deaths of a great number of people they are close to, all at one time. Viewers will go through a grieving process just as they would with any other loss. Please do not cause this trauma in the lives of so many who have supported this show for so many years.
I have been watching Guiding Light for over 50 years and beleive it is the best soap on TV. The acting and story line are the best I've seen. I will miss it terribly.
I have been watching this soap since I was a teenager and it is the best on on television. I don't watch any other. The acting is the best and the story line is also. If any soap should go it should be As The World Turns, It's been terrible.
Guiding Light is a great Soap. What a huge mistake it would be to cancel it. I look forward to watching it everyday. I have to tape it since the time changed to 10am, but it is worth it.
The Guiding Light might have better ratings if it were shown in the afternoon in all markets. Where I live in Florida it was changed to 10:00 am. That was a big mistake. The afternoon time slot draws a larger soap opera crowd. It is a worthy show of its genre. Cancellation of a good program makes no sense! Save the Guiding Light!
I grew up and matured watching Guiding Light. I have watched it over 50 years. I am 58 years old and have fond memories of each cast member of guiding light as well as fond memories of my grandmother and mother who introduced me to this wonderful show.I grew to love Papa Jackson...Leslie and All of The Bauers. We watched Ed overcome alcholism and Holly overcome Roger and welcomed each new birth and mourned each loss. This show offers a fresh approach to Day Time TV with it's promotion of Family Values. I feel like each episode that I have watched has enriched my life and that I have learned something that I can pass on through the Love that I show to my Family and Friends. Please do not Cancel one of the few shows on TV that addresses the real problems that real families face and That teaches..love..respect an values.
Please do not take Guiding Light off.I love this show.I have watched it for many years and listened on the radio as a child. Please do not cancel it.
I feel like I am losing a close friend. My grandmother listened to the show on the radio, my mom watches it, I can't remember not watching it, and my 14 year old daughter started watching it this year. I'm now 48 so I've been a fan for probably 40 years. The show has had its problems recently with the switch to the hand held camera and the rushed often forced story lines but ever since Philip came back I have been glued to the set. The show has had some of the most talented actors & actresses of any soap in my opinion. I can't bring myself to watch any of the other daytime dramas. They just don't interest me. Please reconsider keeping Guiding Light on the air. I just don't really want to be without it.
Please do not take Guiding Light off the air. I've been watching the show now for 40 plus years. I started watching it with my mom as a child. I can't beleive you are going to do this to so many people that enjoy such a great show. I enjoy coming home for lunch and watch it. It is set to record daily so I don't miss anything. And what about the great actors I'm sure they want to continue doing such a great job. Ginny W
Please don't take GL off the air. I've been watching since I was 8 years old...wow 33 years! I grew up with the characters and life without would be sad. I'm a single mom that works nights. My only hour of "me time" is when I get home from work and my son naps during that hour. What about the history????
Please dont take Guiding Light off the air. I have grown up watching this show since I was a little girl with my mom, who still tapes it every day. I have my dvr record it every day if I don't get to see it. I still can't believe it's almost over. This is a part of so many lives for so long. With all the other reality shows that keep coming up and going off, stick with what has worked for years! Don't ruin a good thing. NOT ALL GOOD THINGS MUST COME TO AN END!
Please dont take GL off I Love this show When I stoped watching all soap from being busy in life i would still record this one on my VCR than i started catching up on line now i have my dvr and record it every day I have been watching this show sence i was a little girl. Pleaseeeeeeeeeeeee dont take this show off its the best soap out to day
I Love this show please dont take it off I have been watching it since i was a little girl when im busy and cant watch i use to record it on my vcr than catch up on the computer now i have my dvr never miss it Pleaseeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee dont take it off.
Please don't cancel GL- ever since the news broke, I feel the story line has gotten even better and more bold. I guess you might as well go out in a blaze of glory but would rather you keep up the good work and stay on the air. Take some of those stupid court shows off the air!
