Description:

Our current system punishes criminals & sets them free again when their sentence has been served even if they still pose a threat to society.  This endangers the public and keeps police busy catching the same criminals again and again.  Longer sentences are needed for public safety and no convicted criminal should ever be released until they are believed to no longer be a threat to anyone

Forum Discussion for Protection (from) not punishment of criminals

If we stopped jailing people for petty offenses like drug convictions, there would be plenty of room in jail for rapists, murderers, and pedophiles. Of course, if we removed the genetailia from rapists, killed murderers directly after a conviction, and made pedophiles go through something so dehumanizing and horrible that they could never leave the safety of a mental home again, not only would less people commit crimes, but the ones who do would not waste our tax dollars on feeding and clothing them. I may be all for human rights, but I'm also all for corperal punishment and execution of people who pose a threat to a peaceful society. The only small problem that exsists in this rose-colered view of mine is the fact that not everybody thinks the way that I do, and sometimes people who go to jail don't deserve to be there. So, in conclusion, I don't think that there is a perfect solution, but something does have to happen with our justice and prison system because the laws we have in place just aren't working.

I think, personally, they should institue a 'scarlett letter' policy, marking all violent, and repeat offenders, especially murderers, and sex offenders, otherwise, you don't know. I always thought they alerted you if a sex offender moved into your neighborhood, but I think past events have shown that to be a lie. The only way to find out is to find your state offender registry, and sign up, but if you don't have a computer, you'll never know until it's too late.

One of the main issues is our overcrowded prison system, as we have 2.5 million people in jail. That outranks every other nation, even countries with ten times our population.
