Description:

The Vice-Presidential Debate will be happening tonight at 9 pm ET.  With both candidates already being criticized for some pretty major gaffes during their campaigning, what they have to say tonight could make or break either candidate.  A large portion of viewers are expected to tune in simply for the entertainment value.

So did you watch the debate?  Who do you think won?

I think they both did a great job but Sarah Palin definitely won. I didn't like how Biden resorted to bringing up the Bush Administration and how he said global warming was only man-made. To say this global climate change is just because of man is ignorant, there is clear evidence that through the centuries earth has been naturally increasing in temp. It is both because of man and the nature of things. I liked how PALIN said she didn't want to waste time debating about the causes she wants to ACTUALLY DO SOMETHING about the situation. Bravo Palin.

They both did a good job, and both were respectful, competent and entertaining. However, although Palin held her own and delivered one or two "gotchas!", I think that Biden had a slight edge overall.

I think Sarah Palin is a clone of John McCain. McCain is in failing health and too bad if the country ends up in Palin's hands! Biden was a gentleman when he knew Palin was lying. Biden knew his stats perfectly. I think Biden won for sure.

I would like to mention that every time Biden was at a loss to top Palin he resorted to criticism of the Bush Administration. That is a sure sign he was losing ground in his own argument and resorted to the sure safety of calling out the previous administration. Debate tactics 101. It was a dupe and apparently many are naive enough to fall for it (well, Palin didn't). Global warming is NOT entirely because of man. Oh my gosh how can no one mention that here. Apparently Mr. Biden never heard of ocean circulation, volcanic eruptions, or solar and orbital variations in connection with this topic. This implies he is not all knowing even though he may have appeared to be with his dignified, experienced demeanor. If Palin would have shed a tear last night it's all we would be hearing about.......we all have pain in our lives so please don't use it to get my vote.

I could not stand the look she kept giving last night with her sweet smile while she is stabbing you in the back. C.mon people, cant you realize that she is only there because of Hilary not winning over Obama. She is not like us, and I dont want to be like her. She is not presedential......

I feel that Mrs. Palin's pronunciation is just not presidential sounding. It is possible to be down to earth while sounding professional/eloquent. Also on a even more serious note, does it bother others that she is so evasive?
If she can not be honest to the public in this early stage, it is not likely that she will honest later on.
citizens have the right to be told the truth. Many simply want a female president. It is important to note that Cynthia Mckinney is running for the presidency. She is honest eloquent and has excellent ideas for improving this country.

do you seriously think it is okay to make fun of people b/c of how they pronouce things?it is just and accent that she can not shake off.

I think Biden presented his facts and ideas to improve our country very concretely. I like hearing bullets points of action. I did not hear bullet points from Palin. Palin keeps trying to present herself as one who is like us but is she really?

MAny people are not satisfied with the Mcain/ Palin, Obama/ Biden. It is important to note that Nader and Mckinney are both on the left and Barr and Baldwin are on the right. They are all viable choices that must be be heard. that are the majority of state ballots.

To think that Sarah Palin could be just a heart beat away from being the president is unthinkable. Last night it was obvious she still has no thoughts of her own and was scripted. When asked questions she could not answer she deflected to another area completely off point. It is clear that she had no idea what she is talking about. Can you imagine what foreign leaders would think when she come out talking about "Hockey Mom's" and "6 pack Joe" and other "Folksy" cliche's? Clearly she does not belong in the White House.

im sorry but obama cant make a speech without his telepromter.

Palin did a great job. Biden threw some hard things out there, and she turned it around. I am still voting for MCcain- Palin( Mostly Palin).I am an Republican but I think that Palin was great last night. Biden may have more experience but like someone else said he was wrong on McCain's voting record And has said in the past that Obama wasn't ready to be president...of course that was before he was on the ticket.I am not 100% on McCain But Palin did great, our Family is Now 110% for McCain/Palin Ticket.

I just feel like Palin is a big fake and uses circular speaking to try and convince everyone that she knows what she is talking about without ever answering a question yea or nay. I am a little younger than her and I feel good for her that she was nominated but she does not express anything of my views on what should be done in the following days and years. She concentrates on the background issues like prolife and does not dive in and really put meaningful words in to her answers. This election has left me a disillusioned gen-X'er that will vote, vote for my partly line and not because I think the right candidates were put out there! Elaine in Sylvania OH

Those who actually think Palin did great don't realize she was reading off of a card, had to be thoroughly counseled over the last week for this, or that she didn't actually answer any of the questions. She could be running our country and people think she's cute and 'new'. This is just terrifying.

I watched SNL before watching the VP debate (had it saved on my TiVo) so once I did see the debate I had to laugh. SNL nailed it with her changing the subject when she didn't want to answer the question and kept going back to a prior question that she didn't think she was clear on. Golly Gee/ wink wink/ Joe 6 pack/ is okay I guess if you're with a group of friends BUT I'm NOT your friend, I do not know you so speak like a states person & NOT the hockey mom etc.. when you're in a debate where other countries are also watching.. act more professional please!

I am an Independent but I think that Palin was great last night. Biden may have more experience but like someone else said he was wrong on McCain's voting record AND has said in the past that Obama wasn't ready to be president...of course that was before he was on the ticket. I think she is just what this government needs; a woman who is fair, gives it to you straight, and isn't afraid to take on Washington. People are always so quick to blame Bush for everything but in fact it is the Senate that actually controls whether laws go into effect or not and that Senate has been controlled by the Democrats for the past 2 years. McCain has dedicated his life to serving America, I have no doubt that he will cominue in that manner as president. Like I said, I am Independent but this country needs change and I feel that the Mavericks are the ones to do it.

The result of the election will hinge on the undecided (middle ground?) voters.
I'm a democrat, but the challenge in assessing any of these debates is to put your views aside and try to assess how the candidates did if you knew nothing about them before and you had no party affiliation. On that basis I think it was roughly a tie, but there were a few issues with Palin's delivery that perhaps merit comment.
During Hillary Clinton's early debates with Obama she smiled all the time, so much so that it gave an impression that she was disconnected from the issues at hand. When talking about job losses, for example a large beaming smile is not an appropriate look. It seamed to me that Palin was making the same mistake, and had a school teacher like manner. I suspect this would have been addressed if she had more debates, as it was with Hillary.
I had one more problem with Palin, which I can't honestly say may not come from my political views of what she said, but she did seem to be a little "whiney" in tone - maybe thats just me - I wonder if anyone else felt the same?

Tony

Palin did great. Biden threw some hard things out there, and she turned it around. I am still voting for MCcain- Palin( Mostly Palin).

Sara is fresh, exciting, makes people smile, has a great attitude and background. People with experience aren't always the best as seen in the past. She is a fast learner and has John to teach her.

For being in the "government loop" for 30 years, Biden surely had a big memory lapse on 10-15 items concerning Obama. And on McCain's voting record, he was very wrong. Besides, how can he stand up for Obama when earlier this year he said in a speech that Obama wasn't ready to be President (more than once)and he also said he wasn't ever going to be a Vice President. Sarah Palin won on issues, she won on delivery, veracity and clarity. And, she won on my issue which is Im tired of the democrats blaming the Bush Administration for everything from the war to the weather. The democrats have controlled the congress for the last 2+ years and they have blocked every good bill that has been presented, including several bills to control Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae - and that is a matter of record!!

Biden was clear on what they plan to do.Palin wasnot.

I think Biden proved that he is a great help to his ticket, and he also showed that he has potential to go even farther. Obama is a smart man for picking Biden. Palin on the other hand is a nuisance to the McCain, and they won't let it go. She's an ok speaker, but she simply cannot and will not answer important questions. She defers instead to repeating themes that eventually get old. She sounded like a mom scolding a child while Biden was calm and logically answering every question. Palin seemed to not pay much attention and insisted on telling Biden who he agreed/disagreed with. She needs to have a little more practice at debating, and I would have loved to see Biden rip her to pieces once and for all.

Biden was, and always has been, a smug, sanctimonious jerk. He always acts like he is the smartest person in the room and if you are not sure he is, just ask him and he will tell you. Further, as always, he found it impossible to keep his facts correct.

I voted tie, I think both performed well.

The best part of the debate was watching Biden break out in a sweat and the huge red splotches that came up on his forehead because he kept getting called out by Gov. Palin. Talk about rehearsed answers...Biden would say something, and Palin would call him out...and Biden would just repeat himself over and over. "Thats not true"...and then he wouldn't back up his comment with any facts! I was waiting for him to start crying. He was actually shaking so bad at one point that he started bumping the microphone around...what a hoot dontchaknow? LOL

From the get-go, Palin looked nervous and shaky. Biden called her out on a lot of points, too. She looked and sounded like she was going to just break out and cry. I must admit, she looked professional, and I'm glad she wore a skirt, but she doesn't represent me, and the idea that she's so close to being VP or even Pres., god forbid, scares the living crap out of me. You may want to watch the debate again, but this time as a neutral.

You must have been taking six-pack breaks during the debate if you didn't catch the facts Biden presented rather than the cutsie and coquetish mumbo jumbo Palin answered with. It seems we should move the Capitol to Alaska since she seems to have solved all the problems of the western world there in her short time in office. Let's have more bridges and roads to nowhere!!

Ron Paul is a nut job!

Palin kept up with the debate, but that is not enough for a VP candidate. She also outright refused to answer most of the questions.

I thought Palin was energetic, forceful, and comedic at times. Biden did not know what he was saying....First we're going to invade Pakistan....wait, no Afghanistan.....wait!!! Burma! Burma! Why don't you just free Tibet too, Joe? Oh wait, then you would find somewhere else to invade.
