Description:
The Vice-Presidential Debate will be happening tonight at 9 pm ET. With both candidates already being criticized for some pretty major gaffes during their campaigning, what they have to say tonight could make or break either candidate. A large portion of viewers are expected to tune in simply for the entertainment value.
So did you watch the debate? Who do you think won?
I don't see what was forceful about her. If she would answer all of the questions posed to her, she might have a chance at sounding smarter than she is.
I don't know what your talking about. Biden was calling her out left and right for not answering questions. Her answer to everything was "I'd like to share with you what I did in Alaska..." Also, most of the points she made against Biden were called out as lies or twists of the truth time and time again. Biden kicked ass!
Palin definitely had a fair amount of coaching as witnessed by her standardized answers, which, at times, did not jibe with the questions asked. We must not forget that all politicians skirt around direct answers, but I feel Biden answered more directly than did Palin. The cute little colloquialisms like "Joe Sixpack", "Doggoneit", "hocky mom" were great during the convention but have quickly gotten stale and overused.I feel there has been a lot of watching old Ronald Reagan debates and cues taken from them.
Both candidates made cases for their men and I guess when the dust settles after the scramble to check validity of all the stated data, we'll see whose accuracy was on target.
Sarah Palin kinda reminded me of George W. a few years back. Everyone has such low expectations and it watching to see how much of an idiot they make themselves look like, and then when they are able to keep composure -- everyone is so **** impressed! She was coached! Yeah, she didn't mumble and didn't ask to have a question reworded into more laymen terms or anything, but she didn't answer some of the questions directly and kept harping on the same few facts that she had good catch-phrases/soundbite quotes, etc. rehearsed for.
But everyone thats is so surprisingly impressed by her, how low exactly were your expectations to begin with? I guess if you start out expecting the worse, you'll never be disappointed. but.. she did NOT do a good job. And I'm not even sold 100% on the Obama/Biden ticket (I personally still like Ron Paul), but he did a much better, intelligent, well-rounded job.
I think Palin did well. I think now she's truly ready to try out for her high school debate team!
I don't think she has time since November's right there. Maybe we should support a VP pick that doesn't need such severe coaching.
As a registered Independent for the past 20 years, I got the impression that Biden knew his answers to questions from knowledge and was not rehearsed. To the contrary, Palin seemed to be a bit over rehearsed with no substance to back up any question to her answers at times. If she had a wireless feed in her ear from a coach, then a bad job there. It's obvious that the GOP knew they had to shorten time allowed for responses with a freshman novice on stage. If that's the best they can do with a 72 year headliner, then I've got no choice to put in for an Obama vote.
Palin was an idiot through out the whole thing.... and she would smile and giggle while Biden was speaking.
I have to say I was more impressed with Palin than I thought I might have been..there were times when she caught Biden off guard. However, the facts still remain, does she have what it takes to be vp? And what did she do to get here in the first place I just don't trust it!!! With that being said I still believe Biden and Obama are more suited for the change this economy needs. If we couldn't roll with Hillary Clinton whose resume reads much higher than Palins what the hell is america thinking!!!
SHE DID A GREEAT JOB SEEING HOW HER OPPONENT KEPT POINTIN GFINGERS BACKWARDS...
BUT I GUESS WE SHOULD HAVE FIGURED THAT SEEING HOW LONG HE HAS BEE NDOING IT IN CONGRESS...
Sarah did a fantastic job. And NO, not every Alaskan is against Sarah. She has her fan club and her "thorns in her side" fans. They will go out of their way to drag her in the dirt and they are not ashamed by anything they say or do against her.
I once told a democrat I did not vote for their canidate and man, I was never so insulted in all my life. Such hate.I had never seen such hate spew from someone's mouth before. I am not a democrat or republican, but I tell you if those were the only choices on the ballot I much rather vote republican.
Both parties have a long way to go, but the republicans are at least going in the right direction. God bless America!!!
I feel you are sadly mistaken. My aunt has lived in Alaska for the past six year, handling many tribal matters, like the professional she is, without roads and little funding and communication. She managed to do several things for the tribes, independently of government and earmarks. My aunt is one of the smartest people I know, and when I posed the question about Palin, she said that Palin was not smart, had little experience, and could not make a good VP in '08. My aunt is so deeply rooted in Alaskan affairs at this time, she even picked up the same accent Palin uses in her daily speech. I would like to see more people like my aunt who live in Alaska and are a part of the community and actually pay attention to Palin's actions to talk about Palin. I want to know what informed Alaskans think about Palin. Her sly talking and sass will not convince me that she is anything or can be anything more than a hockey mom.
I do not think Gov. Palin has the experience, I don't think she has any answers and I am not convinced she has the intelligence to actually form a coherent thought that someone has not coached her on, and she certainly avoids answering by talking in circles and using cliche statements when she is uncomfortable with the subject matter. I can't decide whose "aw shucks" attitude is better - hers or McCain's. We really don't need another version of Mr. Smith Goes to Washington these days. We need leaders with substance and intelligence.
So who are you writing in? Because the dem ticket sure doesn't meet your exacting requirements.
I'm voting democratic because I think they make more sense. Maybe if McCain had chosen someone with more substance instead of that window dressing piece of fluff I would feel differently. I do NOT believe he chose her because she is a MAVERICK or for any connection she makes with the common man (because I don't really think she connects all that well), but those are the only reasons being given.
So who should we all write in if Obama and Biden aren't the smartest people running at the moment? The Republican ticket looks worse every day. Give us some kind of insight, and you'd better not say Nader.
Though I do not support Senator Obama and I disagree with the Democrats on several issues, I feel Senator Biden was sincere and respectful in what he said. About twenty years ago (?) I heard Senator Biden speaking from the Senate floor, I don’t remember what it was about but I do remember thinking highly of him and wished he would run for president (I was a strong Republican at the time).
My views are much more in line with Governor Palin (more so than Senator McCain), but on answering the questions directly I feel Senator Biden did a better job.
Again, I would never vote for Senator Obama (for moral reasons) but I admire and respect Senator Biden (though disagree with him on certain issues). I would hope if Senator McCain wins the election he offers Senator Biden a place in his cabinet.
One last thing…I am 100% against the bill that was just signed (sadly) by all three Senators, I feel it goes against everything Senator McCain said he stands for. This could very well keep me from voting for him and turning to a third party (Constitution). Further, if it passes in the House I will actively get involved with helping to remove from office any Representative from Indiana that votes for it as our Senators did.
Are all you democrats idiots.... Obama is a veiled Muslim... he stayed in a radical church and listened to their preacher until it was not politically correct for him to as it was hurting his campaign. Do you really want a man with a Muslim background running the country. His father was a radical Muslim, his Stepfather was a radical muslim. He doesnt say the pledge, he doesnt say in god we trust, He voted against English as the official language of America......!! Come on people WAKE UP... Palin did great. And I'll bet she can spell "Potato" correct the first time better than V.P. Qualye every thought about.
This blatant display of ignorance is what scares me so much about the "typical" American voter. You may think you sound patriotic by trying to rally us against Muslims and the idea of a language other than English being spoken in America, but in reality, you are rallying against some of the most "American" concepts that exist. If you knew anything about the history of our country, you would know that there is no official religion, or even language. The beauty of America comes from our ability to choose how (or if) we worship, and to share our individual heritages with our children and those around us. And besides, the completely unfounded myth of Obama being a Muslim scares me less than having someone in office who has openly admitted to wanting Creationism to exist in textbooks alongside Evolution. This sort of backwords, irrational thinking will get us nowhere if we encourage our children to turn their backs on obvious scientific fact. Candidates who push their own religious beliefs on the laws and people of this country are the least patriotic of all.
In reply to Stan S's "And I'll bet she can spell "Potato" correct the first time better than V.P. Qualye every thought about"
Maybe she can... but Bush and her sure don't know how to say nuclear.
This has been proven to be a myth, propogated by those with racial prejudice and perpetuated by those who fear having a man of color in this land's highest office. Surveys show 12% of Americans feel Obama is Muslin, but what if he was? Our government calls for separation of church and state so religious affiliation should never be an issue - perhaps we should make it a requirement that a presidential candidate be an athiest so that wouldn't be a problem.
Exactly my thoughts: so what if Obama is (supposedly) Muslim? It doesn't mean he's going to cause the destruction of the country and the death of our morals. Most people who argue against Obama because of this supposed religious affiliation, how much to they know about Islam? You can't judge the whole based on the radicals of the group. Whenever I hear an issue about how "Christian" a candidate is or the religious affiliation of one, I always remember separation of church and state. I agree, an atheist candidates would certainly help with the issue of religious affiliation.
Yeah so what if he's muslim, like what kate just said separation of church and state, so with that said it shouldn't matter what god he prays to just that he is a good president and I believe he will be. Much better than the other canidates the are running.
Kate T, your posts are good, really, you think straight, thanks for sharing your thoughts with us. I think this same thing, seperation of church and state, every time the muslim thing comes up. And, if he spent 20 years at that church, well, wouldn't that be betraying his religion? Twenty years? Some here sound like they would like to be back under British rule, so they would't have to say their religion, everyone's would be the same. Any one here willing to vote for that? My vote, as an American, would be a resounding NO!!! Thanks again for your posts.
PS Palin told the moderator, at the very beginning of the debate that she would not be following the rules of it. Biden did what Obama did with McSame, Biden and Obama both showed respect for the rules, and for the other candidate. Wish I could say the same for the Repubs.
I was wondering how many circles Palin can go around and around and around.
It's so clear that Biden was the winner in this debate. When he spoke, he actually addressed the issues!!!
Biden was clearly the winner. Palin couldn't get off the subject of energy and showed that she doesn't have a clue about foreign policy. She kept chiding Joe Biden for referring to the past but history repeats itself and Obama and Biden are trying to keep that from happening. Hopefully they will be elected and be able to do that.
Joe was way more informative in the debate and certainly carried better answers to the questions asked, and so I would say that he legitimately won the debate. My gut feelings, and the CNN realtime rating meter, tell me that Sarah has been met with such "warmth" because she exceeded expectations, and not because she was intellectually satisfying or capable. Whatever spurts this excitement causes in the polls is only temporary, you bet. I cannot help but acknowledge how well rehearsed her statements and replies were, and feel that it may very well be because of a pre-established outline why she was incapable of giving suitable answers to the specific questions asked and chose her own answers as she felt. Not to worry, tomorrow she'll be digging her grave with her mouth again, and we will have our auto-script for SNL.
Home Run! Biden was left trying to defend himself and Omaba. He misrepresented many facts and Palin knew it.
I like Sara Palin's polite and no nonsense answers.
