Description:
The Supreme Court decided that the 2nd Amendment does protect an individual right to own a gun for personal use, rejecting the view that the “right of the people to keep and bear arms” applied to gun ownership only in connection with service in the “well regulated militia” to which the amendment refers.
Guns are still the weapon of choice for mayhem in the U.S. About 68 percent of all murders in 2006 were committed with a firearm.
Should crime-staggered cities have the right to prohibit the possession of handguns? The Supreme Court has just said, "forget about it."
What do you think?
i live in michigan. detroit is most dangerouse city in world. flint is 3rd. i think we should keep government out of this. do this the good ol way. vigilante style.
I'm normally right there with Andrew on letting the more local governments decide, but that doesn't apply when there is a clearly stated position in federal law. Although our current federal law system does cover entirely too much ground, this is one situation in which the right being guaranteed is so essential that it shouldn't be left up to the states. That's why it is, and should remain protected by the constitution. Nothing should ever be repealed from the Bill of Rights. When we start repealing those rights, we leave ourselves open to an even more dominant form of government than we already suffer under.
Go ahead... outlaw the guns... then I will have an even greater advantage over you when/if the stuff hits the fan.
Most people that are going to commit a crime with a gun is either going to buy a gun off the black market or steal a law abiding citizin. Why should normal people who obey laws be punished. Criminals will still be able to get illegal guns
Leave it up to the cities and states to decide.
