Do you believe Sarah Palin, a.k.a. "Caribou Barbie", to be suitably qualified to be Vice President (and perhaps President) of the United States?

Also, there is a difference between being "qualified" enough and being "experienced" enough. She might meet the experience part (though many would argue that), but she fails to qualify by leaps and bounds.

Don't get confused...Sarah Palin was very well trained on the topics for the VP debate. She CAN ABSOLUTELY deliver someone else's message. The debate was a controlled environment with topics she was trained to speak about. But when expected to speak from her own knowledge base (as in interviews) she fails miserably. Barack Obama has a huge knowledge base, reflected both in his educational background as well as in consistent knowledge of the topics and history. She can't even speak intelligently...she says 'em instead of them, goin' instead of going, nucular instead of nuclear, etc., etc...and this person is supposed to be second in line for the most powerful position in our country? So would begin the truly dumbing down of America.

Unlike Obama saying there are 57 states? wow! He is really educated and smart.

Yes, that was a very humorous mistake from Obama. Good for you, he does have one of those moments for you to relish. But he has proven beyond a reasonable doubt that he is an intelligent man. It is unreasonable, based on his ability to speak, his educational background, etc., etc. to think that he BELIEVES there are 57 states.

I do not hold one, or even a few, comments from Sarah Palin as the reasons she is unqualified. To do so would be irresponsible. It is the myriad of unacceptable answers, the poor educational background, the poor speaking abilities, the need for her to be coached and trained so much, AND the small populations she has governed that makes her a scary possibility for a high position in this country. It's all of that coupled together.

Oh, AND, YES, he IS really educated - one stupid comment does not remove that. You try graduating from Columbia and Harvard and having a 4.33 average gpa. Whether he is intelligent is, quite frankly, for people to decide for themselves. But MOST think he is VERY intelligent.

Oh, I see, when Obama screws up, it is only a "humorous mistake" but god forbid the Republicans screw up and t is "hell to pay". How much further can you go!!

well said, jodi. unfortunately the dumbing down began 8 years ago. and from reading some of these comments, it seems the dumb want it to continue

Sarah Palin took 5 years, and 4 colleges to get a bachelors degree in journalism. A degree hardly relevant to being second in line for the most powerful job in the world. Moreover, she only had a 2.0 GPA. For you non-college folk, that's NOT good!! She has no business anywhere near the White House. College speaks to knowledge base, perhaps not intelligence, but definitely to knowledge base and it MUST be factored into qualifications for the job second in line to the most powerful position in the world. Her degree does not qualify for her most high power jobs in this country, let alone VP.

What were Obama's grades in all of the college's that he attended. He won't release his college records, why is that? College doesn't make someone necessarily smart or whether they have morals or values. She has EXECUTIVE experience from being a MAYOR and a GOVERNOR. Get over yourself!

If, as you imply, EXECUTIVE experience is necessary to be VP or president....where's McCain's executive experience? He has been a part of the legislative branch all of his political career.

Ditto, Kristi. Too many unanswered questions concerning Obama... Go McCain!

If you actually believe there are unanswered questions about Obama, either you have a hearing problem or an attention problem. Perhaps you only listen to one side? That's okay, but don't then say there are too many questions left about Obama, because there aren't - he has been answering them for TWO YEARS now. If you refuse to listen to what he has to say, it's your problem that you don't have your questions answered.
Palin has been on scene for less than TWO MONTHS now....she's the one who has the questions to be answered, and all the Republican party is willing to do now is have her give written speeches. WHY? Because they know she can't talk intelligently from what's between her own ears. But we NEED to know more about what's between her ears, not what has been spoon fed to her.

I'm sorry, I didn't address the other issues in your argument.

Morals and values are what GWB ran on, and look at where that got us.
She was the mayor of a population of 5,000. She has been governor for less than 2 years of a population of 670,000 +/-, smaller than the population of the city of Detroit. But, AGAIN, it's not just that which makes her unqualified to most people. It's her lack of knowledge base, her inability to handle questioning, her inability to "speak" intelligently and without a written speech or coached ideas. The poor educational background only supports those notions. The whole "gotcha" excuse, unbelievable. Why should she have been treated with kid gloves? She should be able to handle ALL questions, even gotcha questions with much more insight than she did. How is a voter asking what she would do with Pakistan a "gotcha" question, it was a question from a voter. She should have been able to answer that without siding with her opponent, but nobody told her that beforehand!!! She didn't even KNOW it was her opponents position when she said it. The fact that she answered in line with her opponent and then blatantly blamed the voter, is scary. Similarly, it's not the medias job to make sure she knows the questions beforehand. The point is.....she doesn't know what to say until someone tells her what to say, that's the problem!!!!!

Barack Obama - Columbia and Harvard average GPA 4.33
John McCain - US Naval Academy GPA 3.0
Joe Biden - Univ. of Delaware GPA 3.67
Sarah Palin - Univ. of Idaho GPA 2.0 (average, meaning a good portion of her grades fell BELOW 2.0).

AGAIN, both governor and senator experience is qualifying for president. 16 presidents in our history were senators beforehand, 15 were governors.

I am guessing from the "Get over yourself!" comment that you are not one who is college educated and takes it personally. While I don't hold that against people, it does help to clarify why it would be appropriate in your eyes to exclude college education as a criterion for high government jobs. Thank you for clarifying.

ZerObama isn't qualified to be President.

Palin is more qualified as a VP than Obama is for President.

GO McCain/Palin! She has proved that she is qualified, just last night she cemented it. She is independent, intelligent, and has a back-bone. I laugh every time people question her qualifications... because I immediately think of Obama when qualification is called into question.

Palin proved EVEN MORE last night that she is qualified to be VP. She is an intelligent, strong, and independent woman. GO McCain/Palin!

Go Obama/Pailin Barbie, no I dont look at her like that. I see some no name lady who is playing with the big boys and she should be home with her family

Yes, Melissa, although I hate to think we live in a society where women can't be in high power jobs and be moms. But that poor baby of hers being on the stage at 11pm after their debate. All for politics, to show her off as a family gal. So sad.

i just know americas business tax is the SECOND highest in the world! no wonder why no one wants to stay in the USA. Lets keep up the democratic way of the 90s and keeping sending our jobs overseas to lets say china. This issue is one john and me agree on. Lowering business tax. Let go back to making everyday items in the US and making America competative AGAIN on a country and global front!!!! McCain/Palin

If Saah Palin is not qualified to be Vice President then certainly Obama is not close to bein qualived for the highest osition in this nation. He is a untested candidate with very little experience and a arrogance that will be worse than what Bush portrayed to us.

Hadn't heard "Caribou Barbie" Would seem the way you ask the question already inserts a Bias. Thus the ultimate problem with polls. You could of asked the question straight but added the bias - shame. Wonder how many on this poll are not intellectually honest and thought - hum how can I say "Caribou Barbie" is qualified - I mean she's a Barbie after all.

Go McCain/Palin

Marvin B is so lost. 9/16/08 First of all, no species in America that has been managed by fish & game as to hunting, has ever gone extinct:in fact they have thrived. Bringing children into the world does not cost money, but the free clinics around that pay for thousands & thousands of abortions do (talk about tax dollars!). Marvin has no idea of how many mothers work jobs every day and finish school while the fathers as he says don't step up. If the fathers would end up resenting, why not keep it in their pants? Sarah Palin and her husband govern their family just fine and are'nt asking for Marvins help. She has already done more for this country than Marvins comments could ever do. With Marvin when all is said and done, all has been said and nothing done.

I cannot understand why a country founded by men who were basically home schooled would have become so viciously biased about a competent persons educational background. Intelligence is not taught. People learn from life and interests. So many educated people dont have the ability to navigate life. I am thankful that John McCain has the decency and common sense to choose a sensible running mate. Sarah Palin is like a comfortable pair of shoes. She will fit any circumstance and never leave you hurting.

Comparing the educational needs of the president and VP today with those of our founding fathers is more than apples and oranges. True, people don't have to be formally educated to be smart, and similarly, just because they have a formal education does not make them smart. But it does speak to their knowledge base. Moreover, in today's world, having a higher education degree is necessary because the vast majority of those in high positions already have high education degrees. In order to play within that playing field, they have to be competitive and relate to that playing field. Also, it speaks to their "discipline" and work ethic.

Personally, a comfortable pair of shoes is the last thing I want near the White House, world leaders, or nuclear buttons. I want someone very intelligent and well rounded, and very well educated.

i signed the petition to stop hunting wolves in planes and possibly the next vice president of the USA
as i understand it takes part in this horrible sport.

I have a suggestion, that we all change the name of the Republican Party or at least no longer refer to it as such, in the wake the consequences from yet another "free unregulated markets" MEGA bailout, to the more accurate "SOCIALIST BAILOUT PARTY FOR FAT CATS".

she has great charismatic and i think she and Mr. McCain can make change for AMERICA in the future
