Description:
To:Â UNESCO World Heritage Council
The ill-planned destruction of the thousands of years old, man-made stone bridge known as the Holy and revered Adams bridge or Rama Bridge or Ram Setu, 48km long and 2km wide, connecting the southeastern coast of India with the northeastern coast of Sri Lanka (previously known as Ceylon), commenced on 11 Dec 2006.
The Holy and revered bridge dates back to the time of the Ramayan for Hindus and to the time of Adam and Eve for Muslims and Christians. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adam's_Bridge Â
Corporate arguments put forward in support of the destruction of the Holy and revered bridge, i.e. shorter-ship-sailing-times from West to East India, to avoid sailing around Sri Lanka, fuel economy etc. do not compensate for the loss felt by billions of Hindus, Muslims and Christians all over the world.
This Holy and revered bridge is priceless. There are underwater cities not too deep under the water. Tools and artifacts from the huge wall stone structures date back to over 7,500 years ago, making it the earliest civilization known to man, thousands of years earlier than the Indus Valley civilisation. The area of shallow waters around the Holy and revered bridge need to be dried out and preserved as the Holy land it once was in ancient times as a place of Holy and revered pilgrimage.
As of 09/10/2007, 24.76% of the destruction by massive dredger machines has already been carried out as planned by the Sethusamudram Ship Channel Project, without any reference to the history or religious origins of the Holy and revered bridge, without proper consultation with Hindu, Muslim and Christian organisations and without regard to the sentiments of Hindus, Muslims and Christians all over the world, See http://www.sethusamudram.gov.in/WhatisSethu.asp Â
http://www.sethusamudram.gov.in/ProjectStatus.asp Â
Despite its roots with all major religions, and its heritage, the Holy and revered bridge does not even feature amongst UNESCO’s World Heritage Centre’s list for the lawful preservation of listed monuments, See http://whc.unesco.org/en/list Â
Due to an Indian court decision, work on the Holy and revered bridge has halted for a few months. Protests are being organized by many Hindu organizations to ensure this destruction does not resume. What is needed is a global effort on a massive scale. See http://ramsetu.tripod.comÂ
I, the undersigned, oppose the destruction of the Holy and revered Adam’s bridge or Rama Bridge or Ram Setu by the Sethusamudram Ship Channel Project or any other project.
I, the undersigned, support the repair of the destroyed sections of the the Holy and revered Adam’s Bridge or Rama Bridge or Ram Setu bridge and reconstruction of the underwater cities as a pilgrimage site for all Hindus, Muslims and Christians from all over the world.
I, the undersigned, support the inclusion of the Holy and revered Adam’s Bridge or Rama Bridge or Ram Setu as a UNESCO’s World Heritage Centre’s listed monument.
Sincerely,
Hi
All religions evolved or were propagated by enlightened persons to make the lives of earthlings better. But the way religions and their adherents are behaving, the less said about life on earth the better. I feel all religions are the same, neither one is better than the other. A lot of hatred amongst different followers of religions can be avoided if everybody dispassionately think over it.
Hi
The bridge should be saved as it is important for the sentiments for million but also as it is out natural heritage.
Infact it should be declared as a world heritage site as it is home or corals and delicate marine life. Govt insanity can be costly as this bridge acted as a barrier for the tsunami.
Hopefully we are able to save it for our future generations
The only beneficiary from the sethusamudram project is Mr.Karunanidhi and his clout. He is acting against the sentiments of entire Hindu population this should be condemmed by one and all.
