Issue:
In at least a dozen states this school year, students who bring home top marks can expect cash for improving their scores on state graduation exams, English and math.
Belief:
Some say the payouts amount to little more than bribes, undermining kids' motiviation to do high quality work when they're not being paid.
But, a Texas program found a 30% rise in the number of students with high SAT and ACT scores, and an 8% rise in college-going students.
Hard work should be rewarded. I don't think it's a bribe. Getting good grades takes a lot of time & effort.
Yeah...I think it should be for college especially...I know there are scholarships and grants and I have some....but I still don't have enough to make my bills and with all my time devoted to my schooling...I literally have no time to get a job....ugh! frustrating!
Joe Jonas Lover HECK YA!!! I'M AN A-B HONORAL STUDENT, BUT I WOULD LOVE TO GET PAID FOR ALL MY WORK!!! ESPECIALLY BY THE SCHOOL!! I WOULD WORK SOO MUCH HIGHER TO GET STRAIGHT A's
they should pay us or else
I can't believe someone thought to pay kids to get their own education. As far as I am concerned, if you can't make the grade and you don't have a diagnosed learning disability....welcome to the unskilled labor force.
My question is, what dropped the scores in the first place? Perhaps we should actually diagnose the original injury before slapping a bandage just any old where.
