Description:

Extending the age at which people can drive safely...and the important psychological role that driving plays in older people's lives in contributing to feelings of independence.

ScienceDaily (Sep. 20, 2008) A study identified ideas for in-car information systems to help compensate for the reduction in reaction time that affects many older drivers such as a head-up display on the windshield that displays road sign information based on GPS position so the driver doesn't have to keep watching the road side for information, and a system to provide audible feedback on their current speed so the driver doesn't have to look at the dashboard so often.

Or they could just get on the community-provided bus and keep themselves and us safe.

If SSA requires us to work til we're 65 or 67 seniors should be able to drive work but I do think I think that after 70 years seniors should be required to take both a written and driving test. If they can't pass it they should not be allowed to drive

It really depends on the senior. I've met 60 yr olds, loopy and blind as a bat and behind the wheel and I've met 95 yr olds as sharp as a tack and with eyesight to match. Maybe after a certain age the driving test should be yearly vs every few.

It depends on if their a danger to other drivers, and people on side walks If they have a good driver's record and not ill why not.

I think the decision whether a senior is still able to drive or not needs to be made by a doctor and the family. Any actual legislation that would prevent people from driving because of their age would be considered ageism.

Having parents who are seniors, we had to take the keys away. My mom definitely feels she has lost her independence but she has also lost her vision....but she is too proud to call that bus. Well, she has 5 kids to call instead.
