Do you think the Confederate Flag should be banned?
Belief:
The best-known Confederate flag was the Battle Flag, or "Southern Cross". The Battle Flag was designed due to the fact that the "Stars and Bars" was so similar to the "Stars and Stripes" . This Battle Flag was agreed upon. Other flags such as State regimental colors were used by the Confederacy on the battlefield, but the Battle Flag, although it was never officially recognized by the Confederate government, came to represent the Southern "cause" to most people. The square Battle Flag was carried by Confederate troops in the field which were the vast majority of forces under the confederacy. Used as a navy jack at sea from 1863 onward, the rectangular Battle Flag pictured above has become the generally recognized symbol of the South. Many recognize the Battle Flag from the Dukes of Hazzard. The Battle Flag was painted on the top of their car. The Battle Flag has also appeared on several southern state flags at one time. It continues to be a part of the Mississippi state flag

i am a white sourthern and it did stand for a war for slavery.
the war it stands for is the civil war where we sourtherns fought to keep slaves. that is why it offends people.
I AM A SOURTHERN maybe the flag means something different to some people but really if it offends a group of people than don't display it why start trouble when there is no cause for it
The Conferderate flag is part of US history, how do you ban a part of history that formed who we are today?
For longer than I can remember, (I'm almost 50) Hollywood, the media and non-southerners have always tried to sterotype any southerner. Hicks, rednecks, hillbillies, those are the nicer things. Inbred, uneducated, it goes on and on. I've traveled all over America as a truck driver and as a sightseer. I've met good and bad everywhere. But the one thing that always seems to be inherit with the ones that speak the loudest about negatives toward southerners is, the total or almost total lack of any real interaction with a southerner. If you choose to live in a nice log home in the south, you must be a hick, hillbilly. But if you choose to live in a nice log home on a lake in Michigan, well you must be well off or maybe a tad eccentric. If you choose to own a gun in the south you must be a red neck, if you choose to own one up north, well you must be a sportsman. If you choose to fly a confederate flag in the south you must be a racist, yet if you fly a flag say of your native land Germany,Japan,Russia, Iraq or Iran etc... all nationalies known for human rights violations and even genocidal histories in their past...well that's OK! You see my point of the double standards? There is a quote from the book Southern by the Grace of God, a man once replied upon being asked, 'When will you southerner's stop fighting the civil war, it's over', his reply was "when you yankees stop shooting at us". I can't top that one. But once while driving through Akron, Ohio, I heard a fellow on my CB, slandering southerners as usual. I let him finish his rant. Then I asked this question, "why is it so many northerner's save up there money for retirement, move down south, and after six months start complaining about how much better it was back up north?" "If it was so good why didn't you just do everyone a favor and stay the F#ck up there?" It was quiet for a moment, then I heard another southern voice reply 'Preach it brother!' Then another voice said 'Now, now... we all salute the stars and stripes', the the first voice said, 'yeah but ours is configured different from yours'. I will always maintain my ancestors fought and died for the southern flag, defending their land from a northern invader, ones that raped, looted, arsoned, & murdered. (None of them owned a slave..I researched it!). That flag is as much a part of me as the blood in my veins. I'll be damed if you'll take it away from me!
Deo Vindice,
Rest in peace ye southern heroes,
your sons and daughters hold you
secure in our hearts forever!
