I think the confederate flag shows southern pride, and should not be taken away because some people think they are still owed something. I'm sorry if my flag offends you, but being called a 'cracker' offends me, and since I refuse to use or acknowledge the 'N' word, maybe I should get the same respect. I feel that if we start tearing down everyone's heritage to make other people happy, we'll be a nation at war with our neighbors. Maybe we should stop worrying about what's in other people's homes, and start looking at our own. I would have to say that about 99% of the people who made posts here agree that the confederate flag should not be banned. It has already been removed from most all of the southern state Capitol buildings because of the whining blacks. If this government even attempts to ban this beautiful flag then the people shall rise up just as they did against illegal immigration and amnesty and put these pansy assed and corrupt politicians in their place. Go to an Ole Miss and LSU football game and attempt to remove the confederate flags. You will have an uprising that will make the blacks burning of their cities down look meek. Hell no the confederate flag should not be banned anywhere. It honors our ancestors who fought in a war that was not about slavery anyway. Lincoln had to use slavery as a rallying cry for the north. I am damned tired of the politically correct giving in to these so called black leaders every time they ask for something. None of us ever owned a slave. Why do they not blame their own race for rival tribes capturing them and selling them to Dutch Jewish slave traders. If they had stayed in Africa they had a good chance of being killed and eaten by a rival tribe. Jessie Jackson and Al Sharpton are not men of God and have made a tax free fortune causing dissention between the races. This politically correct and pansy government will not prosecute them for any of their corruption. Many would be surprised at just how many black people detest these fake reverends. Many want reparations from Congress because their fore fathers were slaves. We had nothing too do with that era but I will always honor my southern ancestors. You do not see good black people such as Colin Powell, JC Watts, Micheal Steele, Harold Ford, Gloria McSwain, a professor at Vanderbilt University along with countless other beautiful black Americans making a fuss overy something as trivial as the confederate flag. When this pansy assed government comes after my flag they had best bring the 5th marine division with them.. I am certain that I misspelled this beautiful lady's name from Vanderbilt and I apologize to her.. How would the blacks and their" want to bes "like it if we passed an obscenity law making them keep their pants pulled up over their underwear? Banning these trashy rap songs is much more important than starting the civil war all over again by attempting to take our flags. This time we just might win,lol. for your info, it DOESN'T stand for hate. you need to do your research. i certainly have and although this flag has been abused by people, like members of the KKK who have made it a symbolism of everything that was (and to some extent, still is) wrong in the South generations ago, the Confederate Flag was never made for or intended to be used in any way, shape of form of hatred. The problem is that no one really does their research on the Confederate Flag, The Civil War (or, as it's called in the South, "The War Between the States") or any other issues related these and/or that particular time period. White people have been forced to tolerate certain things from all kinds of races, just as have Blacks/African Americans have. Nowdays, everyone's on pin and needles cause one thing or another might offend someone in someway. To me, this issue is constantly brought up to just cause more conflict among races. No, I don't think the Confederate Flag should be banned. I think there should be tolerance among those who oppose it, just like there's tolerance for any other flag! You are full of bull **** Anthony. The confederate flag is part of our heritage and not a symbol of hate you yankee liberal or perhaps a card carrying ACLU member. The days of political correctness are about to end. What if we wanted to remove all the balls off the face of the earth. Then the black race would go mad. In Vicksburg, Mississippi you will find a huge civil war miltary park. There are probably more monuments dedicated to the union soldiers than our beloved confederate soldiers. We have not forgotten that the union soldiers stalled their horses in our churches, raped our women, and almost burned the state of Georgia to the ground. You blacks are about 20% of the population but people such as Jackson and Sharpton think every time they want something they can demonstrate and get it. These 2 so called ministers are nothing but corrupt criminals.The yankee liberals and the politically correct will always support these people. There is going to come a day when the American people take their government back from these corrupt and sorry assed presidents and all lazy assed over paid members of congress and form a government by the people for the people and of the people. I have black friends and do not consider myself a racist but if all these tratiours movie stars and Louis Farrakhan hate America then deport his racist ass and all others to Liberia. After a couple of weeks there you can bet that you will have some patriotic black Americans that formery declared they hated America. This Obama is a radical Muslim as well as being a racist. The only thing he knows is ****. Can you imagine our soldiers saluting a man who will not pledge allegiance to the flag or used the Koran rather than the Bible at his US senate swearing in ceremony. I can tell you bleeding heart liberals and politically correct exactly what you are going to cause if this man is elected President, a coup. Enough is enough. It stops here. Do not touch our confederate flags or you shall deeply regret it. As for as the prick posing as a relative of Stonewall Jackson, this **** could not make a pimple on Stonewall Jackson's ass. and would not be fit to shine Mr. Jackson's boots. You will never do away with the NRA. I never consider Lincoln or Kennedy as having been good Presidents, simply lying politicians. Amen to that post Roger L. My grandfather was full blood Choctaw and the American Indians were screwed over by the American government much more than the blacks have ever been. I am very proud of my Indian heritage and for the fact that the native Americans do not attempt to burn their own city down when they do not get what they want. I am not racist. My best friend is black and lives next door to me. I have a beautiful black girl and her husband who live across the street from me. I would put my life on the line for these people anytime. Yes we can blame the Dutch for bringing all of the slaves over here. Now we can blame them for harboring rapist murderers who killed the young innocent American girl Natalee Holloway. I take great comfort in knowing that George Bush and all of these lazy and corrupt congressmen will be in a different place when they die than Christians. Can you imagine living in hell for eternity and hearing the screams of over 4 thousand young soldiers and countless Iraqis? Bush was too chicken **** to demand justice for this dead American girl. I agree that the flag is a very sensitive subject, and while it should not be banned (historical censorship) it should be displayed with caution. i think it is with great naivte to claim that the flag represents southern culture and heritage. What culture and heritage? one of jim corw laws and segregation? one of lynchings and cross burning? what great heritage does this flag represent other than a shockingly racist one? there are many other things that are distinctly southern that one can take pride in that do not reflect and represent hatred toward a race of man. the civil war was a war of seccession, but it is very difficult to ignore the steps that led to that seccession. and if it supposedly is such a universal sign of southern heritage, why is it only associated with white southerners? how many southern african americans do you see displaying this great southern emblem? we look down on those who use the swastika as a reflection of culture, but we applaud and defend the use of the flag as one. a little hypocritical. All Confederate Flags, Symbols, Monuments, and Persons should be BANNED as Treasonous emblems of TYRANNY & Anti-American Evil (except for historical depiction of such Evil). The Confederacy is an insult to the South & Southerners, Anti-Christian, and only supported by ignorant perverts. We Loyal Southerners are Southern by Birth -- American by the Grace of God! i was born in the north, but have lived in the south for almost 20 years. you talk about the evil, the north is no better than any other part of the U.S.. the north took away the right for the south to stay separate from the north, so the north is no better because if you look at the flag as being evil, then the north is evil for taking the south's right to stay separate Submitted by Michael M. on Sun, 02/17/2008 - 15:01
the fact that the confederacy lost the war is indicative of the fact that it could not survive on its own. there was a lack of national currency, a serious lack of manufactoring power, as well as a serious lack of transportation/communication. the south had a huge advantage in that it was fightihg on its own turf, and it had a army of men with a cause (while the north was sending fresh-off-the-boat irishmen to do its fighting) yet it still could not win because it was a poorly organized, poorly funded nation. and if it REALLY was a fight about stayihng separate, and slavery was not the main issue, why did the south, for the most part, avoid allowing slaves to fight? because it was a fight to stay separate to ensure slavery would remain in the south. because the southern economy relied heavily on slavery. had the south won the war, the same small percentage of the white population would have held on to the very high percentage of land and wealth. why pay poor whites a daily/weekly/yearly wage, when you could pay for a slave once and and have him/her for years. if the south won, what do you think would have happened to all of those poor southern whites that could not find jobs? chances are they are going to go north to find paying jobs. hell, how do you think Lincoln got elected in the first place? because even before the war poor whites were migrating north to places like chicago to find jobs. and what a coincidence, where was lincoln from> illinois. to Michael M.: your comment about why did the South avoid allowing slaves to fight. I don't know where you get your information, Sir, but the South did, in fact, allow slaves to fight on their side just as much as the North allowed slaves to fight on their side as well. I have not only proof of this from geneological records from all over the Eastern side of our nation here but i also have photographic proof. Photographs of not just African American slaves fighting for both sides but also Native American slaves fighting as well. And don't tell me that I don't cause for one, you don't even know me. My parents, along with myself have spent the good majority of the past 15+ years researching through so many records in every state on the East cost, gathering all this information of our families. Both sides of my family were slaves AND they fought in the War, FOR THE SOUTH. I have the photographs and information because of all the research that we have done, quite thoroughly if i may add. We now dedicate our time to anyone who wants to know about their family and trace their ancestry back as far as the records will go. if you choose to study,you will find that ther were blacks in the confederacy,these were free men who chose to fight,unlike in the north alot of the blacks were drafted and forced to fight.also one should know the blacks in the union army were paid much less than their white counterpart,but in the confederate army they recieved the same pay,and sometimes paid more due to rank.choose to learn,dont become on of the sheepele. Such a sensitive issue, I am a direct decendant of a Confederate Soldier, so the flag has a historical and personal meaning to me, the flag has been used in the past by racist hate groups, but so has the United States flag and various Christian symbols, it stood originaly for states rights and Southern Independence from what they viewed as an overpowerful central government, and a tyrannical leader, as for the creedence behind that I do not completely know, I did not live back then, but I will not scorn the ideals for which they fought, or the flag that so many ypung men gave thier blood to defend, the flag should stay, it sould be flown with pride by anyone who believes in the ideals for which it was created, for those are the very same ideals that led our founding fathers to create this great nation we live in today! While I certainly don't think it was the best thing that happened to us, I believe it was monumental and in no way should it be banned. However, that is for several reasons, namely, because I am against the censorship of history. Also because the flag represents the essential freedom and dominion of states rights.
