Issue:

I grew up with old time Hockey.  No helmets.  You could easily tell who was who.  Goalies would get checked if they left their crease.  If you gave a cheap shot, you'd pay in the next shift.  Fights every game.  Hockey was a contact sport. (I should mention I am a season ticket holder for the Flyers, aka, the Broad Street Bullies.)

I've put a sample of what I grew up with in the Learn More section.  Probert vs. Domi fight.

Belief:

Then Gretzky came along.  No one could touch him (well, he was so fast, no one could catch him to touch him).  And hockey became a skating game.  Europeans joined the NHL.  Mandatory helmets.  Boarding calls....What happened?

I DONT LIKE TO SEE THE GUYS GET HURT (LIKE TSKEN OFF THE ICE ON A STRETCHER.I SAY JUST PALY GAME AND SCORE YOU GOALS AND LEAVE THE FIGHTING TO THE WRESTLERS ADN TEH BOXERS!!!!GO WINGS

I agreed with everything you said Mary Beth until you said you were a Flyers fan! But it's true, hockey when it started was a physical game, football on skates. What was the joke, "I went to see the fights then a hockey game broke out." Now it is a skating game, dump the puck in the corner instead of charging through. It's just not as exciting. There are too many boarding calls. Boarding used to be part of the game as long as it was a legal check, now it's a major.

Well who posted such a comment? R u kidding me. It's an amature theory at best. Do your homework. I've never once in my life ever heard thet Gretzky was such a fast skater 'no one could touch him because he was so fast. He was never known as a super fast skater to begin with. What's the point here?
...Fighting in Hockey. If you have never played, then you'll never know. And if you don't like it then don't watch it.

I just watched that outdoor NHL game last week with the slushy ice.  The skating was slower, and I enjoyed the game much more.  It seemed like there was more hockey going on.  No just dump and chase which bores me.
