Issue:

Ok I have to issue a disclaimer right now.  This is probably the nerdiest campaign I have ever created but I think it is important.  I was first made aware of this issue while watching the movie Clerks II.  In the film the characters get into a heated argument about the supremacy of either Lord of The Rings or Star Wars.  Choosing both is not an option!

Belief:

Star Wars a New Hope, originally titled Star Wars was released on May 25th 1977.  Since then the saga was completed by two sequels and 3 prequels detailing the lives of Anakin Skwalker, and later, in Star Wars time, his son Luke Skywalker.  This movie started a movement that still lives on today.  So prevalent is this pop culture icon in our society that a recent religion pole taken in England yielded a very high percentage of the answer Jedi.  Next to the main story of coming of age and the duality of man you have two love stories, multiple star battles, and an overwhelmingly striking social commentary.

The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring was released December 19, 2001.  This highly anticipated adaptation of the work of J.R.R. Tolkien brought the stories, which many around the world had grown up reading, to life on the silver screen.  In this saga Frodo Baggins must transport a powerful ring to the fiery, hell like, pit from whence it was created.  The problem is that the ring is evil and it can take power over people and he has to take it a long distance through many obstacles while the main evil of Middle Earth is trying to bring about a, kind of, apocalypse with these demon type things called Orks.  You also have a disenfranchised king, tons of elves (the big kind not like Christmas), a spunky dwarf and a wizard that bears an uncanny resemblance to magneto.  They of course also have epic battles.

So here is the simple vote.  Once and for all, in your heart of hearts, which to you prefer?

I love them both immensely and while I love to use Star Wars lines in daily conversation and desperately wish Jedi were real (and I could be one :P), LOTR simply must win. I am in <3 with Middle Earth and the elves. And you're right, Diane, Smeagol is quite the interesting character.

I love star wars really, but Lord of the Rings is so much beter and more high tech and yet not. Star wars is a classic but LotR is just AWESOME. Plus it has Orlando Bloom as a hot elf. Whats better than that?

The Lord of The Rings,I love the little creature smiggle!

lotr (lord of the rings) is way coolr duh lots of awesome wepons (no guns) creatures of awesome nature 2 name a few elves, dwarves... etc... star wars is like kk its the same thing though lightsabers are wicked i like swords bows and axes betr and lotr there are books and i like books, and star wars has books 2 but there suckish so lotr

Lord of the rings gets my vote for having the orignality, its a beatiful story. But star wars will always go down in history as a greatest movie!

Lord of the Rings was good but Star Wars gets my vote for being the best....hands down!!!

I love J.R.R.Tolkien's book

He is the best writer in all times

And the movies are the best in all times tooooooooooooo

LOTR is the best movies i saw 4ever.
I read the books, play the games and watch the movies. This is my work in everyday

Yo soy fanatico de Star Wars y tengo una coleccion de estos juguetes, pero ademas tambien me encanta el Señor de los Anillos, ambas trilogias son de lo mejor!!!!

Starwars: benchmark in moviehistory, the first 3 at least. I must say that SW had horrible acting but the groundbreaking special effects made up for that. LOTR has more all time lasting appeal, better acting and a more believable story. Both moviesagas are essential for any movielover.

This is an unanswerable question for me. Too difficult. I like them both the same.

They both are modern mythology! The greatest myths of the 20th Century.

Hey how can u vote for lord of rings .In first one it made me sleep dragging.but starwars as soon as title scrolls it gives u boost,it such a good script, movie.

There is only one reason. I believe both story speaks the same behind the stories itself. It's in the core. But I _believe in Star Wars essence, because it has saved my life, in all sense of the word. Thank you Mr.Lucas !!! Even if all others should loose their faith, I'll not !!!!

Both are gseat movies but I have to say I prefer the lord of the rings.

lord of the rings = for girls
star wars = for men

darth vader isn't dead!

:O Star Wars is not just for men. :/ I happen to be a HUGE fan of Star Wars, but Lord of the Rings is amazing. :)

Hey, a true Jedi cannot be beaten. Luke Skywalker has beaten scores of witches, if you ask me. Even if the wizards of LOTR may attack him with all their strength. They are living and therefore can be affected by the Force and can be repulsed by it.

Star Wars is technically the reason why we have all the special effects. Industrial Light and Magic was the first company spurred by Star Wars to create the stunning visual effects. (It's owned by Lucasfilm).

I have nothing against LOTR, it's a great novel series. I admit it's a nice movie, but Star Wars is the mother of it all. It was the mother of the best visual effects we have now and no one can refute that. It makes it the best because in spite of the low technology in the 1970s, Star Wars made it all possible for us to experience space and great visual effects. Simple!!

sorry, joshua j, i love star wars, but "if you ask me" two hobbits with no special powers, and a horrible little creature saved the middle earth!! I couldn't say who would win in a fight between a Maia (an angel, and as you called them, wizards) and a Jedi, because the Maiar where the Jedi of the Middle Earth, and the Jedi were the Maiar of that galaxay, far, far away. And over evrything, its a non-sense "fight"

I must say that even if I've seen bought of the movies, ST is cool but LOTR with his heroes is the must amazing film who it was maden and realised by hollywood and im not alone in that opinion.Thank you.

star wars is lord of the rings,at least to begin with,i was born in 1970,my father is a bookdealer,at the age of 7,i saw starwars whilst reading the hobbit,i first read lord of the rings just before seeing return of the jedi.i love both of them,i also love the harry potter series, they are all basically the same story set in different realities, starwars wins for me because i grew upwith it but that doesnt make it the best

That is a very good point. It's all about good ultimately winning over evil.

ok this one is a hard one, i myself am a fan of both sagas, anyways lord of the rings is cool and all the special effects are also good, but remember that the trilogy has been realeased in the early 2000's, i mean they had more new technologies than the original star wars trilogy from the70's and 80's which still was good so in my opinion i think i like the star wars saga better

While I think Luke is a little bitch, Star Wars gets the nod. It is more creative, imaginative, and it's way cooler to get a lightsaber for Christmas than a piece of jewelery.

Both the Star Wars saga and the Lord of the Rings Trilogy are epics in their own time. Both have romance, comedy, action, adventure, heroes and villains, and a plot to save the galaxy/earth. But George Lucas created Star Wars through his own works (and borrowed from others)- Peter Jackson made these movies as an adaptation of an already-told story. The Lord of the Rings had goblins, trolls, elves, and dwarves...fantasy elements that we've already heard of. Have you heard of a Rodian in other fantasy/sci fi works? How about a gundark? Or a bothan? Again, works that originated from Lucas. The visual and sound effects used the original Star Wars trilogy were legendary at the time, revolutionary, whereas Jackson used CG and other effects that were built and used for roughly ten years (albeit he did have his computer programmers develop a new program to use all the armies to have personalized minds, not singular). Star Wars also takes you to places that Middle Earth cannot, with vehicles and weapons that we've never seen. And you can't have an epic movie without good music, and John Williams' score for the saga is perhaps one of the best orchestrations of modern time. Keep in mind that I'm not putting down Howard Shore- he is great composer in his own right. Williams' was just...well, better. Overall, Star Wars for me is the better choice, and not just because of the cool lightsabers and spaceships.
