Issue:
Ok I have to issue a disclaimer right now. This is probably the nerdiest campaign I have ever created but I think it is important. I was first made aware of this issue while watching the movie Clerks II. In the film the characters get into a heated argument about the supremacy of either Lord of The Rings or Star Wars. Choosing both is not an option!
Belief:
Star Wars a New Hope, originally titled Star Wars was released on May 25th 1977. Since then the saga was completed by two sequels and 3 prequels detailing the lives of Anakin Skwalker, and later, in Star Wars time, his son Luke Skywalker. This movie started a movement that still lives on today. So prevalent is this pop culture icon in our society that a recent religion pole taken in England yielded a very high percentage of the answer Jedi. Next to the main story of coming of age and the duality of man you have two love stories, multiple star battles, and an overwhelmingly striking social commentary.
The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring was released December 19, 2001. This highly anticipated adaptation of the work of J.R.R. Tolkien brought the stories, which many around the world had grown up reading, to life on the silver screen. In this saga Frodo Baggins must transport a powerful ring to the fiery, hell like, pit from whence it was created. The problem is that the ring is evil and it can take power over people and he has to take it a long distance through many obstacles while the main evil of Middle Earth is trying to bring about a, kind of, apocalypse with these demon type things called Orks. You also have a disenfranchised king, tons of elves (the big kind not like Christmas), a spunky dwarf and a wizard that bears an uncanny resemblance to magneto. They of course also have epic battles.
So here is the simple vote. Once and for all, in your heart of hearts, which to you prefer?
LotR all the way, Star Wars is cool but you can't compete with a tale that spans thousands, over thousands of miles, and 14 languages created by one man that are used frequently; yes Star Wars spans a galaxy, but they all speak the same language. Lord of the Rings, the Tale of Middle-earth, easily takes the cake from Star Wars. But you can't compare an alternative-historical world to a sci-fi film
NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Star Wars is good but Lord of the Rings is way better but it all depends on what kind of movie you like.
Definitely has many things to teach about life even in this day and age.
LOoe them BOTH but in a competition, there can only be one.. I know thats Highlander but hey, if it fits..
Episodes 4, 5 and 6 meant the world to me. I was 6 in 1977 when I saw a new hope. i went to the zeigfield theater in nyc to see episode 1 and blamed jar jar for the disaster. saw episode 2 and blamed bad acting, after episode 3 i blamed lucas. i'm still a star wars fan, but LOTR is in a universe of its own-- by the way, Gandolf is much cooler than the green midget.
It Gandalf, no GAndolf!!!!
