I dnt hve a pit but to see any animal put down and judged based on a few that were fighting. This problem is not the dogs the (crual)owners of this dogs are the ones that should be punished not the dog. Most ppl that hve these dogs raise them right and they act fine. Love and Care give that to an animal and it will love u but if ur crual to it then it results in the problem the government think is happening with these animals

I am fighting for my dog now..They are trying to Evict me from my house beacouse of what type of breed I have...my dog is seven months old..I have had no issues with him..I pay my bills every month on time...but becouse of what breed of dog I have..I am ready with attorneys if they serve me the papers (as they have told me but not served me yet) It is not in my lease and I 5 other people have pits in my area and what your going to evict all of us?? I have had pits all my life I know how to raise my dog...there the best friends you'll ever had...My kids can't beat without there dog so if the dog goes we go....PUNISH THE DEED NOT THE BREED

BSL is ridiculous. I have owned more than 10 pit bulls, and I currently have Rottie's, a pitbull and a shih tzu. The shih tzu is the meanest of all(not that she's mean) But she IS the boss. NONE of my dogs have ever been mean or vicious. They are raised with 5 children.And they are treated like family...they are our hairy kids...lol.
They need to get it right, it isn't the breed's fault, it is the owners. Lets start punishing them, make them responsible for their actions. Animals only know what they are taught!

England has a ban on Pit Bulls, Denver has a ban on Pit Bulls along with tons of other places. The problem here is.... They have MORE Pit Bulls now then they did before the ban. Read up on it - BSL does NOT work, NOR should it work! First it was Shepherds then Dobermans, then Rotties... One of these days it will be Poodles and Peke's and Doxies, cuz gosh darn, those are killer dogs!

I have a Pit whom I found on the street - I was a bit timid about bringing her home (because of all the BS about Pits)and the fact that I had 5 other dogs. Well, Unfortunately, when we introduced (Momma - the pit I found) and Seven my half Pit, Momma attacked Seven - but I don't blame her - she was pregnant and we didn't know it. I had her aborted as she was carrying 12 pups and well,having 18 pets already, I certainly cannot afford 12 more! The truth is, we have never tried to re-introduce them, instead, we've spent about a grand on putting a fence up and a doggy door for Momma. The moral of my story is, dogs fight - it's a natural thing, it's called a pecking order or dominate match. It's a horrible thing, but in the wild, they do it to prove who is the boss. Once that is proven, the fighting goes away. EVERY DOG, no matter what breed it is, has this behavioral pattern. This won't stop with Pits, nor will dog fighting -- these pieces of s**t don't care what they fight as long as they can make money off it... You'll get my Pit Bull OVER MY DEAD (and maybe YOUR DEAD) BODY!!!!!!!!!!!!!

BSL is BS....any creature can kill, esp if trained. Next thing you know they will ban children who are into crime, just cuz. We need to be responsible for all living things in our homes!!

Don't punish the innocent animal for what the ignorant humans do! Any dog can be raised to be mean. If you treat an animal right, they will be your friend for life. If you teach them to be vicious, then they will be. I have a wonderful pitbull, he is one of the most friendliest dogs I have had. He loves babies, kids, other dogs, just people in general. He tries to go up to everyone that comes near to get petted. And he loves to give kisses, when we come home the first thing he does is jump up and give us a kiss. We were in pet store and 3 little chihuahuas were in there with their owner and they showed their teeth, barked and growled at our dog, he didn't know they didn't like him being their, he wanted to play with them. I've seen more smaller dogs act more vicious than I have bigger ones. People see big dogs, muscular dogs, and automaticallly think they are mean.

First of all, I am an animal lover. I will agree that any dog can turn on you. But, I think that all dog behavior is learned from their human owners. If they are taught to attack, that's what they are going to do. If they are raised in a loving home environment, they are going to react as a loving dog. I don't care what breed it is. Even a chihuahua can be trained to attack. Are you going to say they are violent? Our neighbors had a pitbull, and it was the sweetest dog you had ever seen. But someone in the neighborhood, didn't think so. They admitted to giving it antifreeze to kill it, "before it hurt someone". I'd like to get ahold of them and give them "something", before "they hurt someone". It's too late for my neighbors dog, but we can help others. I hope this petition works. Good luck with it. Deb C.

I just wish people would take a look around them and see that Pitbulls are one of the best, if not the best, family dogs ever. It is just really sad that people have to pick on breeds of dog. I hope that one day everyone will know what we already know; that Pitbulls are so sweet and gentle.

Pitbulls are wonderful pets. The misconception that they are naturally mean goes on and on even among intelligent people. It is the owners and they should be held accountable. Even dogs that have been fought can be carefully watched and adopted. These are smart dogs. We have that law in our city but there is a lawsuit against them right now. I have been bitten by a dog or two but never by a pit. When I got bit,someone pushed me in front of them so they wouldn't get bitten (and they deserved to be bitten). I sure didn't hate that dog or the other one that bit me. I misread the second one and he sure could have done far more damage if he wanted to but he was just afraid. People don't know how to read a dog and they won't learn. Many dogs have been abused and have a history so since we are suppose to be the ones with the thinking brains, we need to learn. I had a dog that would bite cause he thought he was protecting me. I was baffled at what to do, so for 13 years I kept him in a room if I had company. He did like some people but they were people he was around when he was a puppy. I have grandchildre so I bought a bitch with mothering instincts and it seems to be working, except she doesn't want us to even yell at the kids but she doesn't bite. We also have a pit and he accepted our ridgeback as his own and they have played together for 3 years. The pit protects the kids from yelling also. So since one is female and one male, they both know to protect children and put up with the hell toddlers dish out to dogs! In this case, it is to protect the dogs from the kids but the dogs are great. It is the owners!!!! Lock the dog up if you can't control his behavior.

I live in PA and thank GOD they are not trying to pass any BSL. I would be devistated if I lost my two pits---My heart goes out to anyone who has ever had to give up thier beloved pets because of BSL. Also, I need to say that I am a vet tech and I have been bit more often by cats. chihuahuas, poodles, etc (you know...all of those "harmless" and "sweet" dogs) than pits....in fact, the only pit that has ever bit me were my own and that is in play, never from agression!!! Dogs can only learn what they are taught to do!

I own a pit bull who is very sweet and loving. Florida is now trying to passs BSL. I do not want to lose my dog.

i dont understand why people think the way they do. i mean if one child fights in school we dont take them all out. just the one who was starting the troble.
also.. i think that the goverment is just giving up and could care less who they hurt. i live in memphis and everyday in spring i see at least 5 people standing on the street selling pit bulls. i think that befor they ban the whole breed... they should try and stop the selling of pit bulls with out a license. pass a law saying that if u have a dog you have to have a lock on a gate.
a child was attacked here by a pit bull. the news said someone let him out the gate. 1st of all who would let a pit bull out of a gate. NOONE! pits are smart... it was a chain fence and he used his nose to open the gate.
all thee dog attacks could have been prevented in some kind of way. just like with the lock on the gate... and if the mail man the dog ran after would have called someone instead of runniong and driving away. that kid would be ok.

I truly believe that a dogs temperment is in the rearing. My pit bull, Maggie was the most loving and gentle dog Ive ever owned. She wouldnt hurt a fly. Sadly, she died of cancer last year and we miss her terribly. I wouldnt hesitate to adopt another pit bull!!

My pitbull is my best friend and my true protector. He is loving and a big baby. People don't understand the way you bring up a dog is the way they behave. As a parent to a child, if you don't bring them up with morals and ethics, what do you get? Unruly adults! Do they ban them or sanction their parents? Perhaps they should put a ban in place so they cannot raise any children. It is the same concept with pitbulls, bring them up right and they are the best pets; bring them up to fight, and they become a problem. Why is this concept so hard for people? I could train a poodle to be vicious given the proper training. Why is it people are so vendictive towards pitbulls? Get educated people and stop showing your ignorance!

Punish the deed, not the breed! It is disgusting the abuse that these wonderful animals have suffered at the hands of ignorant, evil, souless individuals. And now the victims are to blame? American Pit Bull Terriers are by nature very loving, loyal and gentle dogs. They can display animal aggression from time to time, but a well-bred, well treated APBT will NEVER display human aggression unless it has been abused and mistreated by those who should have cared for them! If you starve, beat and torture an animal, regardless of species or breed, it will eventually try to defend itself. Breed specific legislation is WRONG and it won't solve any problems. Hunt down the low lifes who cause the problems--don't punish the victims!

It is because of dog fighting that pitbulls have been demonized, when the real demons are free to roam around, and are setting up dog fights. Heavier laws have to be made for people who deal in dog fighting. Once people start getting 10 years of imprisonment for this, dog fights will stop! I have been around all breeds or dogs and pits (if treated right) are no meaner than any other breed. Ihave also been around labs that had been miss treated and abused that were so mean you could not get within a foot of them. Then you never here a word about those little "taco bell" dog that would eat you alive if they were bigger.Pit bulls have gotten a bad name because of STUPID PEOPLE beating them,starving them,then fighting them for profits and laughs.Those people should be done the same way and see how they react to tryimg to save their own lives! then place those same people around a bunch of noise or children and see what their reaction would be. I sit here in tears of pain and anger! I lost my beloved pitbull, Capone, this week to kidney failure. He was 11 years old. He was my best friend and my baby boy. I adopted him when he was only four months old, and already abused. I nursed him back to health, and he became THE best companion I will ever have. I feared dogs before Capone..I was attacked when I was very young by a dog- NOT a pitbull!!! Capone taught me to turn my fear of dogs into pure love....especially for pitbulls. Capone educated many, many people in his lifetime, just by being himself. So, not only am I hurt by my angel's passing, I am also very angry that I CAN NOT adopt another in my town...Aurora, Colorado. They are banned here, and I am heartbroken. I would give anything to help another dog in need, but I feel like my hands are tied. I now feel like it is my mission to fight for Capone's breed. I will do anything.

I live in Texas and the town where I grew up is completely banning pit bulls unless they were already in the city before the banning started. I moved away from there and was thinking about moving back until I learned that I cannot have my dog in the city. My dogs are like my children and I cannot get rid of them because of people's stupidity. I will do whatever it takes to save my dog.

Dogs are like humans: humans can be violent and destructive because of how they were raised, not because of their ethnic make-up. It is unfair that certain canine breeds are discriminated against because their physical make-up tempts people to train them to be vicious. Legislation should be directed toward ending animal abuse, not encouraging it with discrimination. Innocent dogs are being destroyed due to discrimination.

It is the owner, not the breed of dog that is at fault when a dog turns vicious. Banning dogs by their breed is tantamount to a breed holocaust. Which breed will be next? All dog owners/lovers need to be afraid for their beloved pet's life once even one BSL is passed. I live in Ontario (some now refer to it as Onscario) where BSL is alive and well. They're killing Pittys and Pitty mixes with enthusiasm. I just wonder when my dog's breed time will come.
