The skin is the largest single organ of the body. It's essentially a sponge suit that absorbs whatever you put on it and pulls it inside your body. According to the National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health, of all the chemicals used in cosmetics, nearly 900 are toxic. Formaldehyde, Phthalates, Lead, DEA, TEA and MEA, and Coal tar colors (FD&C and D&C colors) are just some.
Harmful chemicals in cosmetic and personal care products can cause
cancer, birth defects, allergic reaction, and other health problems.
Toxins in beauty products aren't just a health issue, they're also an environmental issue. Millions of gallons of synthetic chemicals from personal use are washed down the drain and into sewer systems every day, contaminating waterways and soil, and poisoning marine life and plants.
We, the undersigned, call on all cosmetics and personal care companies to phase out the use of chemicals linked to cancer, birth defects and other health problems.
